Is Mornhinweg the new favorite in Oakland?

Has Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg emerged as one of the favorites to become the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders?

That seems to be the case from a variety of reports over the weekend following Mornhinweg's interview with new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie on Friday. ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing multiple sources said Mornhinweg was "impressive" in the interview. The National Football Post's Dan Pompei said Mornhinweg is a "strong candidate."

Mornhinweg worked with McKenzie in Green Bay and was the quarterbacks coach when the Packers won the Super Bowl with Brett Favre.

The candidates are almost split evenly with those with an offensive background and those with a defensive background, but reports in the Bay Area suggest McKenzie and Mark Davis, Al's son, might be looking for an offensive coach. The presumed favorite had been Packers assistant head coach/linebackers coach Winston Moss.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports there are "whispers" that the Raiders would like to have a coach in place by the end of the week. ESPN also reported that timetable.

Three others have already interviewed -- Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles, Saints offensive coordinator Peter Carmichael Jr. and Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who is scheduled for a second interview this week at the Senior Bowl, according to ESPN. Former Vikings coach Mike Tice is scheduled to interview tomorrow at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. The Raiders also have received permission to talk to Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers, according to CBS' Charley Casserly, although that interview has not happened.

Mornhinweg is from the Bay Area and spent four years on the coaching staff of the 49ers before his ill-fated turn as head coach of the Detroit Lions.

Please Al Davis. Don't know if you are in heaven, but wherever you are, please make Marty to Raiders a reality.

Which ridiculously unqualified assistant would Fat Andy promote to OC? I nominate Running Backs Coach Ted Williams, who is in his 17th season with the Eagles, and clearly an Andy favorite since we don't know how to consistently run the ball. Consider it done.

Since BOZO the CLOWN is unwanted by any NFL team I think A.R. should bring him in to direct the offense and teach his star student from the PEE WEE league(convick) how to smile when explaining how things are going to be better after correcting the mistakes.

5-27 as a head coach, kickoff rather than receiving in an overtime game and he's favorite for the job. Outstanding! There's no college coach out there, this is you lead candidate, wow!

The life expectancy of a head football coach in Oakland is like that of a honey bee...... If Marty thinks he can make it there, more power to him and I do wish him well. Marty should realize he's like a crewmember on the Costa Concordia....headed for the rocks. He's a smart man and probably realizes it's best to step off this sinking Titanic while the going is good. Would it be the ultimate kick in the groin if he begins the revival of that once proud franchise?

Meanwhile, back in Eagle land, where the life expectancy of the head coach is that of the ancient Gallopagos Turtle...very, very,,,,very long! :)

Why is Oakland not talking to Chip Kelly at Oregon, the exciting team in college football?

If MM goes, then Howie can be the O coordinator. he'll use his X box 360 and can play Madded on the side lines. I do believe the organization is re arranging the deck chairs. Oh joy, anothe dismal tear to come and the freaking NY Giants are in the Superbowl.

Vontaze Burfict All American Linebacker from ASU.

He is what the Eagles Need.

    Google him and agree.

I like Burfict as well. I think his draft position is dropping into 2nd round range. Big hitter, which would provide some aggressiveness to a defense that doesn’t have a hitter on it. Only drawbacks, are he can be out of position sometimes, and he is probably going to be good for one Unnecessary Roughness call a game.

Despite what the negadelphia fans think, Marty is well respected by the NFL people who do this for a living. His offences have consistently ranked in the top 5-10 every year and every quarterback he coaches improves. I say it's 50-50 he stays. I fully expect Brad Childress as OC if he leaves. I've been an Eagles fan for many many years and I can't remember a single OC that the fans think are competent. It goes with the territory. If a play doesn't work hes'a an idiot. Never mind all the great calls/play designs/formations that work

I thought Fat Andy was the QB coach with the packers when they won the SB?
