Eagles lose; Kolb, Bradley out with concussions;
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Updating, well, this was not where this game appeared to be going.
The Eagles moved the ball, but Michael Vick was stopped on a fourth-and-1 on the first play after the 2-minute warning.
The Birds have no timeouts, after using their last timeout with about 5 minutes remaining.
The Packers were able to run out the clock and finish off a 27-20 victory.
The Eagles fall to 0-1 and are heading to Detroit, which likely will be without quarterback Matthew Stafford, who injured his shoulder in a controversial loss to Chicago.
Updating, David Akers makes a 23-yard field goal with a little under 6 minutes remaining on a drive that began with Nate Allen's first career interception. That cuts the Eagles' deficit to 27-20.
The key play on the drive was a long screen and run by Shady McCoy, reminiscent of Brian Westbrook.
Updating, Michael Vick rallied the Eagles' offense as he threw a 17-yard touchdown to Jeremy Maclin to cut the score to 27-17 with a little more than 10 minutes to go.
Vick was 6-for-8 on the drive.
Updating, the Packers answered quickly and now lead 27-10 on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Greg Jennings, who made it look easy getting around Ellis Hobbs.
Updating, the Eagles have cut the deficit to 20-10 on a 12-yard TD run by Shady McCoy, although Green Bay followed with a 51-yard kickoff return.
The Eagles had a touchdown negated on a Clay Harbor penalty. The drive was highlighted by a 31-yard run by Michael Vick.
And, Jason Peters has gone down and is sidelined. The Eagles get even thinner on the offensive line.
Updating: Both Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley are out and will not return. The Eagles say both players have concussions.
Michael Vick, who was on the play for six plays in the first half at quarterback, will take the reins from here. The Eagles fumbled on their first possession of the first half. Green Bay moved down the field and scored on a John Kuhn touchdown to take a 20-3 lead.
Kolb's injury was initially diagnosed as a jaw problem after Clay Matthews fell on top of him. He returned to the game after the injury. He was 5-for-10 for 24 yards and was sacked twice.
Bradley's head bent back when he collided with Ernie Sims' hip. Bradley attempted to get up and then toppled over. He eventually returned to the game before being ruled out.
Updating, The Packers are up 13-3 on a 56-yard Mason Crosby field goal at the halftime gun. They took the lead on their previous drive, a 6-yard TD pass to Donald Driver with 1:48 left in the first half. Jamaal Jackson has left ther game with an elbow injury and will not return, the Eagles say. Leonard Weaver's left knee bent the wrong way on a tackle by Nick Barnett. Weaver has gone to the locker room with a knee sprain, the Eagles said. The Eagles won a challenge overturning an apparent Kevin Kolb interception, but they haven't been able to get their offense flowing. Kolb was slammed to the ground by Clay Matthews and suffered a jaw injury but has returned.
Kolb's first half was very uninspiring. He seldom had time to consider progressions, and seemed to be forcing the ball into coverage to DeSean Jackson, who had no first-half catches. At halftime, Kolb is 5-for-10 for 24 yards and two sacks. His longest completion is for 6 yards, and he has a 56.2 passer rating.
Earlier: Mason Crosby's 49-yard field goal has tied the game 3-3 with 13:52 left in the second quarter. The Eagles' d-line has sacked Aaron Rodgers three times, two by Juqua Parker, the other by Trent Cole. Antwan Barnes just left with what might be a hand injury.
And now, Ellis Hobbs is returning the first Green Bay kickoff instad of Jorrick Calvin. So why is Calvin active? Who knows.
Earlier: David Akers' 45-yard field goal has given the Eagles a 3-0 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter, after a Joselio Hanson interception of Aaron Rodgers that Hanson ran back near midefield.
Lots of Michael Vick usuage early, including a penalty when he failed to line up on the line of scrimmage flanked wide for the Birds' first snap.
Earlier: Some surprises among the Birds' inactives for today's game against the Packers. Third-round rookie defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim will not suit up today, along with defensive end Darryl Tapp, acquired in an offseason trade with Seattle for Chris Clemons and a draft pick.
Less surprsing were the inactivations of rookie linebackers Jamar Chaney and Keenan Clayton, guard Max Jean-Gilles, rookie guard Austin Howard and recently acquired OL Reggie Wells. Rookie Matt Kafka is the third QB.
One inference: Recently acquired rookie Jorrick Calvin is active as a 6th corner. This would seem to mean he is returning kicks.
Stay tuned for updates.
Your writimg style is pedestrian and trite! A painful read! YUCK!! tompain007
Andy reid needs to fix his coaching stratagies so for once he can actually call a play that makes sense or in a curtain time of the game!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kold played horrible in that first half he looked like he was week and his arm wasn,t as strong as we thought it would be. better luck next time. Go phillies! PhillyNH
updating reid is a pos coach - why did he trade Mcnabb?? Nice clock work - same thing for the past 10 years. kolb is a pick machine - disgrace he takes over for DMac. Injury prone? How about pencil necked pick throwing L who will never sniff an NFC championship game - let alone 5 - in 10 years, which he will never see. Nice Reid, Grossman you dumb challeng calling, timeout for nothing calling morons. Lurie - sell the team please so I can see a winner this century. dc_danny

Hayward Giablommi, you really need to get over it, the dog stories and jokes are really becoming boring, and childish. Don't be mad because the man can play some football. How many dogs have you rescued lately or even thought about, my guess is none. charmaine
To all you Mcnabb bashers yes you mr low throw mcblow & you mr i won the world seiries and did't throw up. You will be throwing up after the next 2 seasons of this, remember Kemp? how about Hoying? It will take at least 2 seasons of bad int's stupid sacks and alot of pain till we even know if Kolb can make it in the N.F.L. You idiots have not been watching football long enough to know this. WELL I TOLD YOU SO for the last 2 years. Now you will want Vick to be the starter, just like i said 2 weeks ago. Mix this Q.B. mess with the loss of J.J. Mcdermit will take some time to even come close to him, if he ever can. Can someone on this coaching staff teach these guys how to finish a tackle? igglebob
Folks Its too early to start the backstabbing. However we can make some preliminary statements that the season may prove to be true. The Eagles defense gets worn down too quickly and becomes susceptible to the run and the pass The special teams is still poor The offense is unimaginative and too conservative. They do not have the players to play it close to the vest. The Offensive line played ok, but it still is not a great O line Maybe the problem all these years was Andy Reid's offense, not D McNab's arm angrybear

what did you expect with another team coached by Andy baby boppa2
It's going to be a LONG season. Go Phillies! Go Flyers....Go 76ers... Hey Lurie: Think new coach. Brohn
Oh poor Kolb..........I told all of you Kolb wasen't your right QB this year! Way to go Matthews for hitting him hard! Welcome to the real NFL Kolb. Go back to pee-wee league. MRD
lonewolf? wolf4? kk stinks, you say? he is a joke you say? you screamed and cried and hollered to get rid of #5. Three years I watched you do this. "Kevin Kolb is Aaron Rodgers." "Kevin Kolb will be the greatest QB in Eagles history ever." So far, he looks like a shaky, noodle-armed interception machine. He is making Michael Vick look like John Elway. I am not surprised you're at the head of "the pack" to jump off the bandwagon. One game does not a career make. Let's give #4 a season. He's our quarterback now. I wanted to keep #5, but hey, y'all got your way and he's in DC. thealphawolf
Why are we paying attention to this garbage team and franchise when there's one of the most world-class franchises across the street who happens to be in an exciting pennant race? aid2

Kolb's not injured, he just sucks! Eaglesfan804- The whole team is injures. Can't wait for the 18 game schedule, so all the star players will be out every week. Whoopie. road515
Shame that the vile dog drowning felon couldn't be the victim of a gruesome season (or career) ending injury. Best to L. Weaver. hayward giablommi
McNabb is missed already... mebphila
No running game no quick slants, no throw to TE. What kind of offense game plan is this!!!!!! Total blame on the FAT MAN ,and M. Morningway too. Its a disgrace to come out looking so inept and clueless. they had weeks to prepare for this game. Same old sh*t PhillyNH
