Howie: Candidates Know We'll Support Coach

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman briefly updated the Eagles' website on the team's coaching search Wednesday. Roseman said he is confident potential candidates know the Eagles offer a framework conducive to success.

The men who seemed to be the top candidates, Penn State coach Bill O'Brien and Oregon coach Chip Kelly, decided to stay in college. The Eagles are interviewing former Bears coach Lovie Smith Thursday. They have announced plans to speak with Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, and Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, though those interviews are not set.

"They know we have a great owner" in Jeffrey Lurie, Roseman told interviewer Dave Spadaro. "Who's going to support and give as much resources as possible to make sure we succeed. They know that we have just supported a coach for 14 years. We're built that way. This whole organization is built to support a head coach. They know that, not only in actions, but it words. All they have to do is call Andy Reid and know that that's how we do it.

"We develop family here. People who have been here have been here for a long time, they've grown together ... It's been a very positive experience. I'm not saying we're the perfect franchise, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a great tribute to Jeffrey and what he's building here."

Roseman said lengthy, nine-hour interviews like the ones with O'Brien and Kelly touch on every detail of a potential coach's operation.

"How they run meetings, how they run training camp, what they're looking for in players, what they're looking for in coaches, getting an overall picture, because being a head coach in the National Football League, that's a big job, and you're a CEO. You have to have a plan and know what you're doing in every area," Roseman said. "You'd be surprised at how detailed these people are, when it comes to strength and conditioning, or a training staff, or video, they have the answers, and it's very interesting to hear."

The Eagles never promised a quick resolution to the search -- in fact, Lurie sketched out exactly the opposite last week when he spoke with reporters,

"Jeffrey's been very adamant with us, that the key is getting the right guy. The key isn't getting the right guy as quickly as possible," Roseman said. "So that's what we're going to do."

As long as the Birds have this Dweeb "Accountant GM" selecting players, it doesn't matter who they get as Head Coach. He saved Lurie 20 plus million in Cap Money last year and that took the sting (Lurie only) out of missing on 24 players in the 2010 and 2011 drafts. Money is all that matters to Jeff and for that, Howie is the Brightest mind in the NFL!

Whenever I read the name Howie Roseman I think of Howard and his mother from The Big Bang Theory.

"HOWARD!! Your Little Friend Jeffrey Is Here To Play With You!!"

"HE'S NOT MY LITTLE FRIEND MA!!! And I Want Brisket For Dinner Tonight!!"

I think they're interviewing the wrong Cincinnati coordinator. They should be talking to Mike Zimmer, not Jay Gruden.....

Hahaha, apparently the Iggles ain't quite the "Gold Standard" they were made out to be, huh? Looks like coaches are virtually running the other way.

It's not the Eagles. None of the candidates out there sound very exciting.

How can any coach succeed when they have to be $20,000,000 under the salary cap. Only a coach who is desparate for a job would coach the Eagles.

Who wouldn't want to coach a "Professional Football Juggernaut!" Ah, but the Eagles just ain't one of them.

What is it with some of you clowns? What are the Eagles doing wrong? They targeted two college coaches that really didn't want to leave. O'Brien just got to Penn State. Yes, his job is tough, but he is in a win/win situation. The NCAA has set it up where he is safe for many years because of the sanctions. Therefore, no matter what Penn State's record he got a guaranteed job for many years.

Kelly really didn't want to leave Oregon. To encourage him to stay it is believed that the CEO of Nike, who is a Duck alumni, gave him incentives to stay. Kelly also is giving the impression that he had doubts that he would succeed in the NFL and he is not alone in that assessment.

So if you putting the Eagles down because of these two interviews you haven't got a clue. Give the Eagles some credit for at least going after these guys. They are planning on meeting or have already met with all the other desirable coaches. I'm no great fan of Lurie, but give the guy a break.

why does everyone hate Roseman, when the only draft he's actually overseen is the 2012 one and it's been SO FAR our most successful draft in years. Relax, as a loud and proud eagles fan I can still see too many of you just hate and can never be happy. Just relax

" I can still see too many of you just hate and can never be happy. Just relax"

Yes, why can't the fans be happy after 3 years of mediocre football and 2 years of truly bad football?

After all, Lurie and Howie are developing family.

    "We develop family here"

Up in Foxboro, they develop Winning football teams.

Maybe less family, more winning would help.

Here is why the Eagles job isn't an attractive job.

    1) Angelo Cataldi
    2) The rest of the Philadelphia media
    3) A fan base with no patience that will make the fact that the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl the fault of the next coach
    4) The team isn't ready to win a Super Bowl right now and the qb hasn't proven that he can win big in this league

The media and fans of this city used to cry about the Eagles trying to win the salary cap super bowl. The media and fans used to cry that the Eagles didn't spend all their money going after free agents.

What happened to the Eagles when they got away from their disciplined ways? What happened when they started going after free agents like the Redskins? The team fell apart.

The Eagles went into the toilet becuase they started behaving like the fans and media wanted them to.

Hopefully with the next coach they will get back to what made them a successful franchise.

"What happened to the Eagles when they got away from their disciplined ways"

When did the Eagles have disciplined ways?

Are you remembering a past that never occurred? Oh sure, for 2-3 years under Andy, and maybe 1-2 years under Vermeil.

But what is this disciplined approach that you speak of? And when have the Eagles ever have winning ways except for a few years here and there?

The ironic part is you're criticizing reasonable fans for demanding excellence of a football club that just 2-3 years ago proudly called itself "The Gold Standard".

Why do you make excuses for inept management?
