How do NFL players view Eagles fans?

POSTED: Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 10:00 AM

The reputation of Eagles fans generally is they are noted for their passion, their loyalty and their general football acumen.

Sports Illustrated in its weekly SI Players poll asked NFL players which city has the most knowledgeable fans.

The results:

1. Green Bay, 24 percent

2. Pittsburgh, 14 percent

3. New York, 9 percent

4. Philadelphia, 8 percent

5. Dallas, 7 percent

Washington finished ninth, meaning all four NFC East cities finished in the top 9 in voting by 227 players.

Six markets received no votes: Carolina, Cincnnati, Houston, St. Louis, San Diego and Tampa Bay.

Kickoff on Tuesday night is officially listed as 8:06 p.m. on NBC.

The NFL will announce the Pro Bowl rosters less than an hour before game time with a special on the NFL Network. Of course, when the date for the announcement was set, there was no game scheduled.

If you are looking a little bit ahead to a game that will have some meaning for the Eagles against Dallas, the health of Cowboys quarterback Jon Kitna remains in question.

Kitna injured an oblique Saturday against Arizona.

“It’s a stomach issue down there and that’s harder to deal with and harder to overcome if he’s trying to overcome pain,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones told ESPNDallas.com. “You can do things with a hip pointer that you can’t do with the other. I would say there’s some work to do … He’s got a real challenge playing.”

The Cowboys signed Chris Greisen to the practice squad to serve as the backup quarterback behind Stephen McGee if Kitna cannot play. McGee would be making his first career start. Greisen spent this season with the Florida Tuskers, of the UFL.

Let's hope that Chris Greisen isn't the Second Coming of Kurt Warner.

I'm not looking forward to the bone chilling cold tonight but I guess it's better than adding horizontal snowfall

Bone chilling? 35-40 degrees is bone chilling? 8 inches of snow is a "blizzard"? When did Philly become Aruba?

Eagles fans are the best and always will be. Philly has the best sports town and no other town can compare to it. Flyers, Phillies, Sixers and Eagles are all good.

briandawkins20...I'll give you the Flyers, Phillies and Eagles, but the Sixers stink....just a little too much dude, and I love the Philly teams; the Sixers have some work to do.

Can we not use a guy in face paint as the face of Eagles Fans? It is a total violation for a grown man to put on face paint to go to a sporting event. The same goes for any type of costume or outfit. Grow up would ya!

Figures were obviously skewed by SI. Everyone knows Philly has the most knowledgeable, passionate fans in any professional sport. Beside, being considerer #1 by SI would only add to the jinx factor!

i guess the players weren't impressed by that idiot that wears shoulder pads to the games and that stupid do-rag on his head.

The guy with the spiked pads and face paint is awesome. There was a little kid whose tailgate was right off 95 throwing a Dallas Cowboys Hutch football around about 5 years ago. That lunatic was walking around with his flare and steroids flapping in the wind, the kid dropped the ball at his feet so he picked it up and punted it on to 95 (we think it made it, maybe not). It was hilarious...and sad. However, he isn't nearly as bad as half those idiots in Oakland who look like they are straight out of Thunderdome. Those guys seem so "hard core" they probably dress like that every day. Then again, they live in Oakland.

Agreed, K_Ball...not to mention that d--bag is the one leading the charge in that clip of fans booing McNabb on draft day. Obviously he's not a good example of a "knowledgable fan" if he wanted Ricky Williams over McNabb.

Green Bay? Green Bay? I'm guessing when you have the badgers and the Packers, you have a lot going on. What players did they ask? Charles Woodson and company?

hey challenger - it's also pretty terrible when a grown man uses "violation" when describing someone's behavior. not that it isn't amusing when people parrot sports talk radio hosts...

Haha, I actually get a kick out of that guy. I think his name is Sean but I've called him "shoulder pads guy" ever since the first time I saw him. Seriously, though, Pittsburgh? I lived with a Steelers fan in college that argued Tommy Maddox wsa a "better fit" for the Steelers than Donovan McNabb when Donovan was going to the Pro Bowl. I guess there are dolt fans in every city so I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but that's who I always think of when I think of Steelers fans (that and that annoying radio announcer they used to have--Myron Kope I think his name was?? God, his voice was grating).

I agree with most the commenters above. There is nothing more embarrassing than a grown man donning face paint and shoulder pads to watch millionaires play a sport. Keep chasing the dream, fella. Purchasing that overpriced ticket every week is as close as you're going to get.

We have the best fans, and would have an even better sports town if we could get rid of the Sixers and while we're at it, shut the NBA down as a whole. Go Eagles, Flyers, and Phils!!!!

The NFL players should learn the rules of the game before they start rating fan knowledge.

i'm a huge birds fan and live in new england, and i make it to 1-2 games at the linc each year...i agree that the eagles fans are passionate, but why does no ever stand for most of the game there? in fact, if i stand for any part other than a red zone offensive play, or a 3rd down on defense, or andy reid challenging correctly, i get yelled at to sit down. in fact, one eagles' fan in his 70s got kicked out for yelling at my wife so much for standing and cheering for the eagles on, gulp, a second down. i go to patriots games as well and people stand virtually the entire game. can anyone stand up for these fans at the game? eagles fans, you guys need to stay pumped up for longer, even the broadcasters commented on how 'sleepy' the fans were tonight...

If you wear cheese on your head, you must be knowledgable. That is a direct corelation.
