Herremans To Play Vs. KC: Maclin Practices
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Eagles left guard Todd Herremans is a "full go" in practice, coach Andy Reid said, and will make his preseason debut Friday night in Kansas City.
"Bringing experience on the field, a little bit of leadership, and just an attitude," Herremans said, when asked what he felt he could bring to an offensive line group that struggled last Friday at Cincinnati.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was a full participant in practice today. "He's a little sore, but he went," Reid said. Maclin suffered a shoulder contusion against Cincinnati. Asked if his shoulder will affect him, Maclin said, “No, I’ll be alright.”
Running back Mike Bell also practiced and he should play, Reid said.
Asked if he could have played against Cincinnati, Bell said, "Yeah, I thought I could’ve, but I also thought I could go last week. The coaches know what they’re doing, the trainers know what they’re doing, I have a good trust for both of them, so I’ll let them gauge that, and trust them and let them do their job, and I’ll do mine. They felt like it wasn’t ready for me to go, so I took it from them, and I think deep down inside I knew I wasn’t ready to go, I was just trying to show them something and I need to wait for this week, and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Center Jamaal Jackson was a partial participant in today's practice and will not play against the Chiefs, Reid said, but Jackson did work with the first-team line for one part of practice.
"I want to get some live action" in the preseason, Jackson said, but he noted that is not his call. The Eagles host the Jets in their final preseason game, Sept. 2. "I took another step today, and hopefully, we can keep progressing."
"It was good to see 'Jack' out there and it felt good to be back out there with everybody," said Herremans, who has been brought along slowly in this camp after feeling soreness back in the spring, in his surgically repaired left foot.
Reid said he was not sure if Jackson would play in the preseason finale.
"The most important thing is that he’s comfortable with his knee and that it’s strong and that we feel like he can keep himself out of trouble and function and do the things he needs to be able to do to play in the game,” Reid said.
Backup centers Nick Cole and A.Q. Shipley did not practice.
“Nick’s a tough guy and I know that," Reid said. "Nick will go out there and push himself through, really, anything. That’s just the way he’s wired. This is me backing off on him. To make sure we keep the swelling out of that knee, that he continues to just rehab it and get that area strong around the knee and then we’ll go from there. Until I feel that – myself and [head athletic trainer] Rick [Burkholder] – until we feel that that’s where it needs to be, I’m just going to hold back. I know what Nick can do. He got enough work in there. He’s in good shape and all that. He lost some weight and he’s in very good shape. That’s not what I’m worried about. I just want to make sure we’re smart with that knee.”

Reid also reflected on the career of Tra Thomas, who retired Saturday with the San Diego Chargers. Thomas spent 11 seasons with the Eagles and spent last season with Jacksonville.
"Tra's the best, man," Reid said. "Jon Runyan and Tra, those were two of my favorite guys. We saw him go from being a big kid growing up into a mature all-pro football player and person. He's a good guy, if he and Jon Runyan were president and vice president, we'd all vote for them."
Runyan, of course, has entered politics and is running for Congress.
Tra will go down as one of the all-time greats along the O-line for the Iggles, him and Runyan were anchors for the better part of the decade. if only Justice and Peters can be 75% of what they were, then the Eagles will be in great shape...and thank god Herremans is back. this modern day Eagles O-line is not looking all that hot. bboybeballin
Thank god Herremans is back. now when we get jackson back, the eagles offensive line will be dominate. Herremans is strong, big and physical and will help that interior offensive line and people did not give jackson enough credit when he was the center but jackson is dominate as well. briandawkins20- runyan, dawkins, tra... the good 'ol days
- runyan, dawkins, tra... the good 'ol days
Getting the line healthy is a start but won't be nothing unless they send Cotton Kobb Candy back to the county fair. del ravio 100%
O-line needs to be Peters Herremans Jackson Cole Justice. Stacey Andrews was getting blown-up on Friday. fpuglisi3910- Go BIRDS !!!! johnnyu
- "Cotton Kobb Candy" Heh. I see what you did there. No. Wait. I don't. Actually it might be the single most inarticulate and stupid dig at him I've seen yet. Congrats.
Cotton Kobb Candy?!? What the hell does that even mean? The Reddgie
It's dominant....d-o-m-i-n-a-n-t.....people......not dominate! Mark1npt
So happy that there are no Favre stories on this site. Anthony77
If we're grading people, BDawk20 can use "dominate" he just needs to drop the "be" preceding it. Both "will be dominant" or "will dominate" are grammatically correct. Either way its petty nitpicking, surely we all make typos now and again? That said, cant see this line ever dominating. For the Iggles to succeed they need to pass block and do it well. We all know that running backs best chance of yardage is catching it, and that goes for the fullback! UKEagle
cant wait to see andy and rex ryan standing next to one another next week....can u imagine taking those two fat guys out for dinner???...would have to take a loan from TD BANK just to pay the bill.....bring tony siragusa along as well....LOL DON17
Dawk20 ...try to remember last year when Dallas' defense marched right through that same offensive line? Dominate..? You got to be kidding. Hearts
What's Andy Reid have to say about Shawn Andrews signing w/ the Giants.. MJPD345
