An intriguing footnote to the Eagles' hiring of defensive line coach Jim Washburn is his strong relationship with Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who desperately wants out of Washington.
Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, told the Daily News that he couldn't comment because Haynesworth is the property of the Redskins, who have not indicated they intend to trade or release him.
But there are strong indications Haynesworth, a two-time Pro Bowl player for the Titans but a laughingstock in Washington, would like to play for Washburn in Philadelphia.
Haynesworth signed a huge contract with the Redskins after two All-Pro seasons under Washburn.
"I owe Coach Wash pretty much everything. If my deal was $100 million or whatever, then Washburn deserves $90 million,'' Haynesworth told the Tennessean. "I have the talent, but he taught me how to let it loose. As a player, once you can get through the (colorful language), get down to the core of what he is saying, the information is more valuable than gold. He's a great coach, a great teacher. The Titans should have paid a lot of money to keep him from leaving.''
Haynesworth said he knows some of the Titans' young defensive lineman might be happy to see Washburn go, because of how tough he can be.
"I guarantee you some of them are saying to themselves, 'Gosh, I'm glad that (expletive) is gone.' Because I felt the same way when I was a young guy with him,'' he said. "My rookie year he was on my butt, cussing me out. I couldn't even look up and see sunshine, he was on me so much.''
Added Titans free agent defensive end Dave Ball:
"The 12 years he was here, he left a huge mark than no one will be able to duplicate. He had a crazy, intense passion for coaching d-line that I'd never seen before. He was extremely focused and passionate. He always told us he wanted to make us play faster than any d-line had ever played in history. His goals were so lofty, but he was extremely passionate about coaching. His intensity and passion will be missed."

looks like they got the right guy. I'd be cool with, haynesworth albeit with a below market deal with incentives for not acting like a spoiled brat. Man, if they can fix this defense in the next year or so, with that talent on offense (assuming the o-line is fixed)... sore richard
Id give Haynesworth whatever he wanted. Hed be back in his regular position in his natural defense, with a coach he obviously loves and respects and pushes him. Im just so tired of these fast skinny guys. I want a big fat pig to clog up the middle. dennis14
I'm guessing the only way he comes here is if he's released. With that massive contract, the Skins would need to throw in a high draft pick to make the deal enticing for another team. If he came here because he wanted to play for Washburn, he could really improve this defense quickly. hoyaray
Bring in Haynesworth if he's released. It seems like a good fit. Go Birds!!!!!!!!!!!! jdld610
2 first rounders and Haynesworth's contract for Kevin Kolb. DONE. FairmountFrank- Wait for his release, no picks lost. Babin will require some cash, and might be overvalued.
I think Jason Babin, another Washburn disciple, will also be a free agent. dasher- On players butts, cussing them out? Philly fans already love him. I was thinking a large portion of Haynesworth's contract was already paid in bonuses. How much is left?
They should only go after Haynesworth if they're planning on switching to a 3-4 D (I'm kidding, I'm kidding) Mabus
YEA........BELIEVE EVERYTHING HAYNESWORTH SAYS.....A REAL NO-SHOW FOR THE REDSKINS..........JUST SHOWED HIS CHILD MENTALITY IN A MAN'S BODY......AND DO YOU THINK THE "GOLD STANDARD" IS GOING TO PAY THAT KIND OF SALARY? ox
Logan Mankins needs to be priority number one and Ashamouga needs to be priority number two and Chad Greenway should be priority number three,......Lurie doesn't have a track record of bringing in more than one or two high profile signings in a single year so having these three PLUS Haynesworth????,........never happen in a million years, but it would vault the Birds to the top of the charts for 2011,...and certainly frontrunner for the division,....let's hope for 2 of these 4 SyddBarrett- they arent going to pay asomugha when they already pay Samuel a lot you should know this. If they get Haynesworth and can pressure the QB with 4 guys instead of blitzing it wont matter who the other corner is

This guy sounds like a head coach candidate… nosupportgroup
I like what I'm hearing about Coach Washburn. I hope we get a real DC in there to put Wash's guys in the right position to succeed. JohnnyH
I'd gamble on Haynesworth if Washburn is here, for about $800,000 a year, with a $2 million bonus if we win the SB and he's in that game. There'd need to be clauses in the contract that let the Eagles cut him without pay for missing more than 2 practices during the year, including training camp. Hopefully there is no one in the NFL stupid enough to ever give this guy a multi-year contract again. Without Washburn here I wouldn't touch this guy, at any price.
SyddBarrett mentions Greenway. That would be fantastic! I think Mankins will be incredibly expensive, and we know Ashamougha wants twice his value. armchairGM
Ugh, the last thing this team needs is Fat Albert. Mr. HaynesNotWorthHisSalary is doing a fine job of destroying the Redskins from the inside. Leave him there. b3n222
Haynesworth is a big fat TO. But at least TO was funny. Don't want him or his issues. Vote for Dickie
from your mouth to Jeff's ear......Now that would be real deal......trade them whomever they want......eat part of the salary and we are immediatley better....... nuggett- No way. You won't need to trade for him. His contract makes him untradeable. He will be released and then can be had for a reasonable salary with incentives. He is probably so mad at what happened in Wash, that he wants to prove himself again. Sounds like we have the guy he wants to play for too (and presumably the defensive scheme).
- This is exactly the type of coach that they wanted to bring in. They wanted someone to be good for a young group of guys. I think one or both of Bunkley/Patterson will be gone. Hayenesworth is gone from Wash, his value is shot so you can get him on the cheap if you want. I don't care about him. Corner is #1 priority. Whoever said a rush will make corner not a priority is wrong. Look at the Jets, they have 2 good corners and no matter how many injuries they have had elsewhere, that's all that has mattered. And it made them good enough to match up against the Patriots. Corner is the only position almost as important as quarter.
Haynesworth? Really? Didn't he quit playing hard as soon as he got paid?

Getting Fat Albert puts Pie Eating contests back in vogue on the Philly sideline. Fat Albert vs. FFAR. Who you got? momzer- i'd pay Ashamougha anything he wants. I said it last season the eagles should of made a play for haynesworthless. azguz
you guys that want Haynesworth amaze me. idiots, hes a waste of space, if you cant see that by now I dont know what to tell you. Hes the master of taking plays off. The man got the biggest contract for a lineman and then refused to practice, now those are some values you can hang your hat on. Oh but he'll change if he comes here...hahahaha just like randy moss wont take plays off when he plays for my team. peteike
Haynesworth = andrews sisters. Don't go there. hititwheretheyaint
I live in the DC area. The last person you want on your squad is Haynesworth. Remember theEagles game where he laid on the ground for about ten seconds while Vick did the cha cha? That's Albert in a nutshell. Comparisons with T.O. are not valid. T.O can be a jerk, but he earns his pay. He stays in shape and he balls on gameday. Haynesworth isn't close.
I've been watching the Haynesworth for two seasons and he's made about a handful of memorable plays. He's probably the biggest FA signing the Redskins have made, and that's saying something. DTInDC- i believe i called this 2 days ago. i'm patting myself on the back right now.
if faT ANDY can get dog-boy Vick to behave I bet he can get fat Albert in line too your_mom_says_hi!
sad, but true your_mom_says_hi!- this guy is a grade a trashball, doesnt anyone remember the stomping incident? he was terrible last year and he wouldnt get in shape, we dont need him drerock6
- Ashamougha: heard some smart guy, maybe mike lombardi, being interviewed on radio and said that Ash plays press coverage, ie, bump and run ala Raiders of old, while Sammy plays off and reads and reacts, completely different style and strenghts. so if you play them together you are playing away from one of their strengths, so don't get benefit of two all pro's. I was dreaming of Lester the Molester and Mike Haynes days of Raiders of old, but perhaps not a good fit. But we need players in all three areas of D! Can Washburn turn those leaden D linemen into gold? Not sure he has the alchemy. We need size and nastiness. Eephus
- I wouldn't take Haynesworth if the Skins paid 90% of his contract. He's a selfish, lazy, locker room cancer. balitok
Just what we need, another T.O. ziller0604
i'm not a haynesworth fan at all, but if we could get him here cheap, he might be better then half the DL we have now. It would be nice to see the FO finally spend some money on top talent instead of bringing in injured guys or trying to convert 6th and 7th rd picks into starters. There is a reason why they went so low in the draft in the first place.... pokerplayersunite- Nothing to lose. Go for it Eagles.
Big Albert can clog up the front when he on his game. However, forget any $100million contract and offer him an incentive laden deal. If he is not up to par during camp, dump him. billtfla
Can we trade brandon graham for haynesworth? Brandon Graham is a stupid howie roseman mistake. CallerNo9
I give the McNabb draft pick back to the Redskins for Haynesworth. Then at least we won't be able to trade it to Dallas for a 6 and a 7. Joe Lis lives
Do you really think the Deadskins are going to release or trade AH to another team in the same division? BGarber
Maybe Washburn will coach Reid and the front office on how not to release a player with Pro Bowl potential like Jason Babin. Rombo- You people kill me...you chase a class act like McNabb out of town, but love no-hearted-wimps like T.O. and Albert....Philly does suck! I'm embarrassed to be a fan...hopefully we stay with Vick and drop Kolb like a sack of potatoes!
- An incentive laden contract with attainable achievables would be good for both sides. It will keep Haynesworth motivated and keep the bean counters in the F.O. from changing their "philospohy"
Albert doesn't want to play with a bunch of losers who can't get past the first game of the playoffs. He wants a real team! Not some boneheads like these CRASHING BIRDS! MRD
After the TO experiment, I'm not so sure that AR would roll the dice with AH. However, I would not be shocked to read one day that the Eagles signed a big name player that no one thought they would ever be able to afford. Just look at Cliff Lee signing with the Phillies. Beck
I was no fan of McNabb or Haynesworth but it makes you wonder about that nit wit head coach in Washington. Fast Eddie
Oh COME ON!!! We all watched Haynesworth quit during the Eagles rout - and THIS is the guy we want "anchoring" the D Line??? Really? Let him go where ever DC can dump him to...NOT HERE!!! golpher300
