Harris Denies Surgery Report, But RT Still Unsettled

Channel 10's Howard Eskin and Comcast SportsNet's Derrick Gunn both reported today that Eagles right tackle Ryan Harris has a herniated disk, and Gunn reported Harris will need surgery.

But Harris told your Eagletarian that though he still does not want to talk until he's back on the field, a stance he has maintained through his back problems the past few weeks, "I don't think it's going to come to that. But your source might be better than mine."

An Eagles spokesman said he would check into the reports.

Whatever Harris's status, it sure sounds as if the Eagles' right tackle is going to be Winston Justice, if Justice's repaired knee allows him to practice this week for the first time since training camp started, nearly a month ago. King Dunlap started Thursday's preseason game against the Browns and wasn't terrible, but also wasn't great. Dunlap took a false-start penalty. Reggie Wells, brought back last week, played only in the second half. He seems to be here for veteran depth, despite what Andy Reid said initially about Wells competing for the right tackle spot.

The potential move of left guard Todd Herremans to right tackle seems to be the fallback if Justice isn't ready.

Harris, a former Denver Bronco signed to a one-year deal, has been sidelined since playing the preseason opener two weeks ago.

they are not, repeat not, moving Herremans to RT. Enough already. If they had any intention to do that, they would've done so by now. It's a figment of the Philly media's imagination. But hey let's keep throwing it out there in every last godforsaken RT article.

thats got to sting a little. Not only that but why not have a plan in place just in case everyone you bring in doesn't meet the mark. It seems like every year Reid has a big gotcha moment that he over looks for whatever reason, this year is the RT, go figure?

not good. when they first signed this guy I looked up his stats and bio and found that he appeared on a reality tv show...of which I then recognized him...MTV's "True Life, the "I want the perfect body" episode. He was a little too heavy and out of shape to get recruited by schools in high school so he goes on reality tv and works out alot over summer...did get to notre dame I think, to me though it shows that hes lazy, and once he gets what he wants (getting drafted, getting a new contract) he goes back to being the fat kid with no motivation because thats maybe who he is. taking shortcuts to try to get to the top like reality tv shows. Most guys dont need reality tv to get recruited. really unimpressed so far.

Call me crazy but I say bring in Shawn Andrews. He played 13 games last year and started 7 for the Gnats! He manhandled T.Cole, Ware, M.Williams, Clemons and Ratliff. Can't hurt.

Dunlap has no athleticism to be a right tackle, maybe a right guard at best. Let him be a backup to Watkins if he should make the squad.

    (1) Harris' herniated disc is likely old and chronic (pre-Eagles') rather than new and acute. (2) It would be a quite a stretch for Justice to progress from first practice to first team practice to first game. Both will be fortunate as backups on 9/11

i've got at least 2 herniated disks. when they were bad, I could barely walk. now that I'm recovered (they are still herniated) I'd say I'm about 97-98% physical capacity. I'm sure the guy will be able to play, he just won't ever be 100%, and if his back gets injured again he will likely be out for the season. and get Pronger Surgery.

South Side...i am crazy too...but watched Shawn Andrews do the same things you did. When head and body right he is still a beast. What do we have to lose ?

We need tight ends who can block, so I say we keep Lee and Harbor and trade Celek.

Lots of hot air floating around just before the season opener. Why not wait for the starting line-ups next week before we get all hot and bothered. This goes on in Philly every season. Relax a bit, it isnt war, its football, and its supposed to be fun. I trust Andy to put the right people in the right places. GO BIRDS.
