McNabb underrated?

POSTED: Saturday, October 18, 2008, 5:16 PM

Donovan McNabb is the fourth-most underrated quarterback in the NFL, according to a poll of 320 NFL players by Sports Illustrated. McNabb got 7 percent of the vote.

Here are the results:

David Garrard, Jaguars....20%
Eli Manning, Giants....8%
Drew Brees, Saints....8%
Donovan McNabb, Eagles....7%
Matt Hasselbeck, Seahawks....6%

You probably can interpret that a number of ways, but it might mean that other NFL players don't feel that McNabb gets his due, which is not a view shared by at least some vocal portions of Eagles Nation.

McNabb did not appear on the list of most overrated quarterbacks, although Eli Manning is on both. Whatever that might mean.

GET IN GEAR

You see more people around the area wearing Phillies jerseys, especially in the last few weeks for obvious reasons, but Eagles jerseys still seem to be part of just about everyone's wardrobe.

Sports Business Daily listed the Top 25 jerseys sold on NFLshop.com from August through Oct. 15 and two Eagles appear on the list. Brian Westbrook is at No. 15 and Donovan McNabb is at No. 23.

Looking back through the archives, we found that McNabb was No. 4 in December 2004, as the Eagles were on their way to a Super Bowl appearance. Terrell Owens was No. 3.

Now, Brett Favre is No. 1, boosted by the fact that Favre fans need Jets jerseys.

Tomo Romo is No. 2 and leads four Cowboys in the Top 10 and five in the Top 25. T.O. is actually fourth on his own team, behind Romo, Marion Barber and Jason Witten.

McNabb is not underrated as a QUARTERBACK! He's a great athlete in the QB position; however, he does not do the things a great QB does to be categorized with the top tier of QB's in the game...Now, had McNabb taken control of the Dallas and Washington games in those goal line situations; had he done whatever was necessary to score in those two games? Well, I might be singin' a different tune... Donovan McNabb does not use all of his skills anymore - he sure used to though...he used to do anything to win...Now, it seems he's either afraid to run OR he's afraid to go against Andy's wishes that he not run? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Give me a break! If anyone on the Eagles is underrated, it's Kolb! Either wake up McNabb's comatose legs or get him out of there...JUST WIN, BABY! If we are to even sniff the playoffs, we can't lose more than 2 more games the rest of the way; however, winning a couple games we should, otherwise, not win, will go a long way in getting us back in the hunt. Mcnabb needs to know how to throw the ball... thats right. He lacks "touch." Too often he has a wide open receiver about 10 yars out and he fails to lead the receiver correctly and he throws it as hard as he can when he doesnt have to making it a difficult catch. He seems to think as long as he "hit" the receiver he's done his job. How many times have you seen him hang a receiver out to get Slammed? Look back at the last catch made by Curtis before he went out with sports hernia.

you anti-McNabb people are clueless. Kolb underrated? You've never seen him play in a meaningful spot! How the heck would you know? McNabb has been a winner for this organization for 10 years! You don't realize what you've got til he's gone.... Imagine if McNabb played the game Eli played on Monday or Peyton played yesterday? People around here would flip out!!! But he never plays games that poorly. He is absolutely underrated!!!!! Wise....he lays his receivers out less than almost every other QB out there. Learn the game.

McNabb is only good when playing with the lead. He almost never comes from behind . He and Reid are made for each other. They need one other to stroke each other after they choke the big ones away.
