Garcia Update
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Noted in my last post here that I wouldn't be surprised to see Jeff Garcia come back for a third stint with the Eagles. Since then, other folks have chimed in, which helps create anticipation.
To clarify, I've talked to an Eagles source and a source close to Garcia, and though both sides acknowledge the possibility, that discussions have occurred, I'm told nothing is imminent.
I think Michael Vick will go before Garcia comes back, this time. Could be wrong, but I don't see having two veteran, Pro Bowl alum QBs peering over Kevin Kolb's shoulder as a great way to do this. One vet mentor, one rookie the Birds pick up somewhere in the draft, probably not real early, would be my prediction.
I wonder what sorts of behind-the-scenes talks the Birds have had with Vick and his agent. I'm not sure there is a better gig out there for Vick right now than backing up Kolb in 2010, but I guess Vick has to be convinced of that for it to really work.
Finally, a humorous, R-rated take on Donovan McNabb's departure, from The Onion.
Wow, we have people hear wishing for Kolb and Garcia as the QB tandem, its sad to see what some Eagles fans have become. realtruth
salurb......perfectly written post....nice job philly449
Reid is playing poker like the rest of the league with Tim Tebow, who would be the best wildcat quarterback than anyone currently in the NFL, hoping he will fall to them with the second of his second round picks. However, he will be long gone by then as three teams try to trade up in front of each other to get him causing an exciting moment at the draft. Eagles will settle for another QB ib the fourt round. Jeff Garcia will be an excellent tutor fopr Kolb. First round pick, defensive back. Redskin's pick we got will be a big surprise. By the way, why isn't the Steeler player who blocked the bathroom door for Rothsberger to do what he did getting fined and suspended? marioP
It will be interesting to see the fans' faces when the 'Skins beat us 80% of the time for the next 4 years. Kolb will prove what a titanic mistake this was and how Andy Reid is mostly responsible for screwing over Dmac with inferior talent and mickey mouse playcalling, not to mention inabilities to adjust in-game, have a running threat and acquire excellent pass rushers (Cole excluded). Reid is a buffoon. philly449
my man Lonewolf10
To speculate about a Vick trade is wasted energy. Vick will play a vital role on this team as a more than legit back-up to Kolb and key to the wildcat offense. The Eagles hold him in high regard for this reason and have zero interest in moving him. Vick and the wildcat offense would have been used more last season had McNabb not complained. Beck
Yeahh Wee Need Him In The Wildcat O . PhillyFreshh
Please no more Garcia! I'd rather see Les Bowen as Kolb's backup! Philly Dom
GO PHILLIES!! poniesnpoker
No doubt the offers of 1st round draft picks (multiple even) will soon come pouring in for The Courage Award Winner. After all, according to his sycophantic, enabling apologists, he's more accurate than Brees, a better leader than Favre, more offensively savvy than Peyton, a better teammate than Brady & of higher character than 5. But don't worry conVick fans, you can carry on your man-crushes from afar...hopefully real, real, real far. autolykos

The Eagles will never bring Jeff Garcia back. They will either pick up a free agent or don't be suprised if they draft a QB early in the draft. Remember when they drafted Kolb. As for Vick I think the Eagles brought him here last year to push McNabb. The Eagles knew after the 04 Superbowl that McNabb couldn't get the job done. They should have traded him then. Fast Eddie
jeff garcia is good, but not great, kevin kolb is good, but not great, donovan mcnabb was great, but not always good. this is gonna be a bad year eaglesown159
Who really cares...McNabb and Vick are/were better than Garcia and Kolb....this opinion is based on FACTS as in actual NFL accomplishments....we might as well sign Kevin Turner and Merrill Hodge to complete the backfield facelift...it's not like we are striving for rings.... RoastedBird
Yep, here come all the old facile, knee-jerk whines-masquerading-as-arguments from the conVick apologists. Anyone who doesn't want The Courage Award Winner on the team they support thru thick & thin, the team they grew up with, is automatically...A) a hypocrite, B) football illiterate, C) jobless, D) a bigot & F) less than manly. Wow. Also, before being allowed to voice their opinion, they must literally change the entire world & right every wrong ever perpetuated & feel as passionate about ridding the scum on other NFL teams as they do about those on their own home team. Great idea & got to start somewhere. Like right on one's own team? And speaking of "panties"...who's actually calling names, stamping their foot & throwing a classic hissy fit? Guess the truth hurts. But it doesn't change the facts...time for the fraud to go. Get someone who can still play, is capable of learning and functioning in this offense and is not campaigning to play for another team (you know, all those who rushed to sign him last summer...and, oh, yeah, like their uniform colors better... autolykos
Garcia, seriously? What are the Eagles fan's smoking? Thank God these is plenty of time before training camp to float stupid hopes and dreams. I don't think I could stand to ready such dribble come August. unbelieveable!

WILCO.....THANK YOU SOMEONE WHO AGREE WITH ME I BEEN SAYING THIS AND NO ONE BELIEVES' ME KOLB IS NOT READY OK HE PLAY TWO GOOD GAMES LAST YEAR WOW BUT HE HAS A WEAK ARM HE CAN'T GO DEEP AND WE ALL KNOW HOW ANDY LIKES' TO THROW THE BALL DEEP I MEAN DON'T GET ME WRONG I LIKE KOLB BUT I LIKE VICK MORE VICK WAS OUT OF SHAPE LAST YEAR NOW HE WILL HAVE A WHOLE OFF SEASON TO TRAIN AND GET STRONGER AND GET HIS SPEED BACK COME ON STOP LOOKING AT HIS JAIL TIME VICK IS A GOOD QB AND HE WITH A GOOD COACH NOW I CAN'T BELIEVE I SAID THAT BUT ANDY IS BETTER THEN WHAT HE HAD IN ATLANTA VICK WILL SURPRISE A LOT OF PEOPLE THIS YEAR IT WASN'T THE FACT THAT WE COULDN'T TRADE HIM ANDY IS THINKING THE SAME THING I'M........... ajones2321- Also, whoever thinks that they are going to the Super Bowl next year is delusional. They are rebuilding. It won't take long, but I'd be happy with 8-8 and ecstatic with the playoffs. 2011 is the season to expect something worthwhile. By the way, Donovan will not win the SB with the Redskins. He'll make them better though.
- Idiots. Garcia will be a 40 year old backup, not the starter. He will help Kolb adjust and give the Eagles a credible backup that knows the offense. By the way, Brett Favre is 40 years old and has more wear and tear. Garcia is in great shape and he asked to be released from the Raiders last year because they are a mess. The Bucs release was the same thing as they couldn't choose a QB when he was there. Vick sucks. When he was with the Falcons, he was a running back that had a great arm, now that he is in an offense where he has to use his reads he is a joke.
Garcia wants to play with this OLine???? Pure suicide. Get some counseling. philadelphiachild51
The Gold Standard fancies themselves Lords Of The NFL, smarter than all other teams combined. And will never admit they badly mishandled the entire conVick fiasco. They picked up his option because they still stubbornly believe someone will be desperate enough to trade for him. And, of course, with the firestorm of outrage their conVick signing provoked, the Gold Standard is obsessed with saving face. And as for "that play" against Dallas...check the tape...the pass took forever to get there & the defender FELL down. Oh, and what about the fumbles? Guess they don't count? The Courage Award Winner can not play. Certainly can't in this offense. Time to face the truth, Stop apologizing for the whining fraud. autolykos- Now trading MV and replacing him with Jeff would be stupid.
Trading Vick for a 3rd rounder at this point would be stupid - if Kolb falters or is hurt you can't put Garcia out there at his age - you are much better off with Vick who can make plays - no one is gonna offer that pick for him anyway - silly suggestion for the Eagles to do such a thing Tom Man

The Eagles do not know what they are doing!!!!!They will be absolutely nothing the next few years!!!!Well back to 70's football. Sheshe
Wilco...huh? You're not serious are you? Vick has more experience as a starting QB but Kolb has much better skills at the position and more football sense than Vick does. I'm not a Vick hater like some, but I gotta call it like I see it, and Kolb definately won't lose the starting spot to Vick. dowens - What are you smoking? Comparing Kolb to Hoying is like comparing Kolb to you. Hoying was a bust, but Kolb gives every indication that he can be a stud QB in this league starting now and well into the future! There are never any garauntees, but there is absolutely no reason to think that your comment is worth the time it took to read it. Herc142

Glad to see that the BULLYMAN could come off of his high horse to grace us with a little of his exclusive mile high knowledge. Just go back to Denver, where your IQ can ride as high as your self image. bonnerlou
It amazes me when I read these post and see so many Eagles fans dont know football. Vick for a 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder..lmao..The guy showed nothing last year , he was off for nearly 2 years and even before he was sent to jail he was a subpar passer. Like another poster said. Get what you can(a 5th or 6th rounder) for Vick and move on...Thank God I grew up half my life in Denver and have 2 Super Bowls and a fan base with knowledge of football. A lot of Eagles fans are embarrassing in their knowledge of football. Preferring to use emotions instead of brains in sports. THEBULLYMAN- Like any of this matters The Eagles will stink once again this year. And all the sucker fans will handed over their money yet again to Lurie and Banner. Suckers.
Garthia couldnt play in 2006, Andy Covered up for him........ Go Donovan GO SKINS BABY, Philly is Stuck with KLOB INT THROWER AND SHESHAUN JACKSON, BABY TO.... ENJOY LOSERS! DonovanistheEaglesallTimeGreatestPlayer
dowens and all you other non-fans, can't wait for you to eat it. Richard Saunders
In an ideal world maybe the Eagles could get somewhere around a 4th rd pick ,luckily Al Davis is alive and Buffalo still has no QB and SF has no steady b/u ,who know's maybe we will be shocked ,I dont see the team pulling any more wins with Vick here as b/u or running a wildcat.Time will tell... scotty_one

The new chant Eagles fans will be saying this season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzEq0m_6FrI elijah27
watsonmr, true. Let's just say there are a vocal minority that I'm sure he would LIKE to say that to. And I said "If I was McNabb", you are correct that he wouldn't stoop to that. Wondering if he thinks it though? tpizza- ease up downs1617
This came up weeks ago when it was noted the Eagles were looking at Skelton. It makes sense. Vick does nothing for the Eagles except bring a draft pick. Garcia can fill in if Kolb gets hurt -- or more likely, crumbles -- and Skelton (who can probably be had in the 4th or 5th round) is yet another "QB of the future." That should make Kolb feel real good to know his possible replacement is already being considered. Corsair42
lets remember the eagles run a system -reid picks players to fit his system. Personally i am a dmac fan and disagree with getting rid of him BUT reid hasn't let many stars walk away during his tenure here. so lets give this sometime and see .... munkeygoalie1- Langx, when you pass fourth grade grammar, come back and try to make a coherent point. In any event, I am sure the Redskin fans will welcome you with open arms. There will be no Super Bowls for you. Sbdons1982, you are obsessed solely on race. Follow Vick to another team.
You might want to bring in a rookie/arena league qb to back up Kolb because everybody you just named has won more(big) games than Kolb. What half decent NFL veteran is gonna sit behind a qb that was handed the job. Birdman411
Front Office needs to make it happen: TRADE VICK ASAP. He isn't the back-up to Kolb the team needs. Vick is a gifted player that doesn't fit Eagles. Garcia-well- he was effective when McNabb was injured. He hasn't played much so he should be healthy and rested. I also like Jason Campbell of the 'Skins as a back-up to Kolb...not that he is available. Smashmouth

If Garcia comes back the chants will start on Game 1 ... let Kolb sink or swim ... AsValidAsYours
"How many SB rings does Garcia have? How far did he take the Eagles when he played? How old is he? These are all questions people on this site constantly asked about #5. Now the Eagles are supposed to get rid of Vick who atleast played last season and pick up Garcia? The same Garcia that said he wouldn't play for the Raiders because JaMarcus Russell was starting over him." BINGO! People clamoring for Garcia are doing it solely based on race. We had a MUCH YOUNGER Garcia lead us into the playoffs and he got SMOKED by the Saints! How soon we forget. sbdons1982
Eagles offense rank vs rest of NFL for past four years - Number 2 rank in 2006, Number 6 in 2007, number 9 in 2008 and number 11 in 2009. The best year in the past four was in 2006 and that was the year that Garcia played after McNabb's knee injury. The rankings show that the offense was slipping under McNabb. Carlos2- Would love to see Jeff Garcia return....He is a real class act. citysims
Please excuse me SWIM, I forgot to thank you as well, you hit right on the nail on the head. Good Luck Eagles. charmaine
Don't know why he would want to come back here after they screwed him over twice. keepitreal1234- The Eagles know there was not going to be a championship with McNabb, they know there is not going to be one with Kolb for at least 3 years, therefore a high quality backup QB is really not needed either for at least 2-3 years. If Kolb gets hurt it just means more losses and a higher draft pick. The time table is 3 years! Thats when the rebuilding begins to pay dividends.
As we just completed the 2009 season, so I take it 2 years ago being the 2007 season, Garcia made the Pro Bowl, and took Tampa to the playoffs, losing to Super Bowl Champion Giants. Eagles with McNabb were sitting home. watsonmr
Langx, thanks you couldn't have said it better. Good luck Eagles. charmaine- How many SB rings does Garcia have? How far did he take the Eagles when he played? How old is he? Rather have Marc Bulger. Romus- let's see we lost Jim Johnson, Brian Dawkins and Sheldon Brown. Don't worry we still have Asante Samuel, Jason Peters, Michael Vick and last but not least Howie Roseman. Things are really looking good for the future. delcodanno
Comment removed.- Thought I heard the brain trust were discussing Norm Snead.
Who cares about the Eagles? When they fire Reid maybe then they'll win a big game. If Andy had Jim Brown in the backfield, he'd pass 55 times a game. Remember the bengals...55 passes thanks to coach Reid. Remember the Oakland 13-9 loss when the Jets beat oakland 38-nothing the following week running the ball. Remember when DOnovan had a groin injury and reid passed nearly 70 % of the time. Remember when the Giants sacked our QB 12 times and Reid kept passing, only to be called out by Strayhan. Maybe Kobb will be better for Andy's pass happy philosophy. Think of Tra Thomas on one side and Jon Runyon on the other, one of the biggest lines in the game and they back up the whole game. Wonder why most of us at home can call the eagles plays. Certainly opposing defenses know what they're gonna do. There's no mystery. No balance, no rhythm. Not to mention tghe inability to score in the red zone or manage the clock. 11 years as a head coach and he can't manage the clock...inexcusable and Lurie extends him. They deserve each other. Reid will never win a big game here or anywhere else. Let's not forget the new orleans playoff when they went for the first down and completed a pass to baskett only to have it called back on a penalty, then Reid punted and the saints ran out the clock. For all he's done to elevate the play, he's made many headscratching decisions. Now it's on you Andy, no Donovan to blame. Ray Didinger put the blame at 60-40 on the coach over the weekend, I'd go 65 to 70 on Reid as the main culprit for the gold standard having no hardware. Even with his faults, Donovan was good enough if he had any semblance of a running game. When do Eagle fans wake up and run Reid out of town. Who cares? The Phils are a much better organization, more fun to watch and they don't choke in the big moment like Reid and his eagles. salurb
Go sign Garcia. I would love to sit between Garcia's wife and Bassett's wife at the games. TheGuyfromPhilly

If he does -- and no one really knows for sure -- It will be a joy to watch them disappear from these boards. And get ready: Kolb's contract extension is next. Garcia is a logical back-up. Embrace the future!
Makes sense. Get rid of the dog killer. mears
Some of you doglovers, need to understand that were being fought and killed before Vick, and I have a surprise for you they are still being fought and killed, how much have you done to prevent that from happening, my guess is nothing. Now back to the subject at hand, I hope that Vick is traded, and the Eagles win the superbow, or ar least get the the playoffs, with Kolb and Garcia, I am just wondering what are the chances of that happening. charmaine
Garcia could take them as far as they're able (not too far this year) if Kolb goes down in Week 12. Otherwise he seems a little aged. All speculation right now. tacklinjoe
The Onion piece was terrific and spot on, as usual. FKD215
That would be Kolb again. Unless you consider 1 win and 7 ints running a offense! Birdman411
birdman, quick, name the one Eagle qb who has never run a West Coast Offense. mike l
If the Eagles believe Kolb will be a disaster, then why did they keep him and get rid of McNabb. Your post makes no sense. They could have gotten just as much, if not more in trading Kolb than they did McNabb, as he is younger and does not cost as much. The Eagles inderstand that Koln may not light up the league next season (they weren't going to with McNabb, either), but they believe he's going to be better in the long run. As much as I can't stand Reid's coaching and Banner's business acumen, I can't say that either of them has been as stupid as to give away McNabb if they had not faith in Kolb. mike l
tpizza, McNabbs supposed to be classy remember; he wouldn't say that about the Eagles fans. In fact I think he should refute what was printed, and say he has the utmost respect for Eagles fans. After all, thousands wore his #5 jersey. watsonmr
A "Garcia Update" LMAO. This ish is hilarious. You people are looking at this as the coming of the Messiah, lol. Garcia sucks. He is not better than Vick...not even close elijah27
These Vick haters are so transparent it's hilarious! Quick, name the one player on the Eagles that has led a NFL team thru a winning season and deep into the playoffs? It ain't Kolb! Birdman411
Elmeaux? Kolb mentoring Vick? On what how "to throw ints for td's"! Name one game winning drive Kolb has led in the NFL? Then name a game where he has lost the game on a int and that's your answer! This team/fans are pathetic. Did I miss the super bowl victory that Garcia led the Eagles to or did he lose in the playoffs the same as McNabb. Stop hoping! There's no veterans( hey the Sixers are young too), a int throwing machine QB, and no defense (please don't say the draft). Just take the next couple of 6 win seasons like a man. I am! At least we have the Phillies it could be worse Birdman411

The Eagles are scared of the QB controversy that would gurantee happen if Vick was his backup. Vick would be playing by week 5 elijah27
Doubt the Eagles will want to pay Vick 5 mil to back up KK and play 4 downs a game. They picked up the option to trade him r5ather than just lose him although they may have over valued him. Vick will be gone in 2 weeks. Why even talk to Garcia if the Eagles thought Vick was a good back up solution? tpizza
By the time Vick is traded Garcia may be signed. I also think having both would be fine.. Kolb is a grown-up ian no. 2
The Eagles understand Kolb will be a failure? I don't think they would have traded McNabb to an NFC East opponent if they think Kolb isn't ready to take the team. This team will not be a failure at all. Maybe you should be cheering for the Redskins. You can go to the washington post to comment on your new team. Seriously. What kind of fan are you to have no faith in the team? I have been a Eagles fan since I was born and I am now 36 and no longer live in the area. I live outside Charlotte right now. I think fans who no longer live in the area have more pride in their team than most people who are still there. Show some pride people. Especially people like you dowens. I hope they do trade Vick and get Bulger for backup as well as a rookie to groom along like Jevon Snead. crohnkiller
Eagles overvalued Vick and they overvalued McNabb. The player that had the most value is Kolb, but again thats why they kept him, because he had the most upside, despite what some of the McNabb backers may think. Garcia would be good as a back up; I think he knows the situation here and would agree to that now at his age. watsonmr
Okay, for the few posters who are in Michael Vick's corner...there is absolutely zero chance Andy Reid lets him start a game unless it's completely a desperation move. Desperation meaning Kolb is hurt, whoever the other QB is is hurt, and all the QB's on the practice squad are hurt. Desean Jackson would start at QB before Vick would. They want to see what they have with Kolb...if they go 4-12 and get demolished or 12-4 and win the SB Kolb will be the starter from day one until the last day unless he gets hurt. As for the other poster suggesting..."play Vick so he can show what he has"...why bother? Why does he deserve that chance? He had the chance...he was the highest paid player in the game and threw it away because he's an immature coward. And when he did have a chance to show what he did he still couldn't win. He never made it to the SB and in one NFC title game his team got demolished by the Donovan McNabb-led (and T.O.-less) Eagles. Eilex826
Vick has no shot of taking the job from anyone, he is and has always been a horrible QB. Bring in Garcia. If Kolb fails or gets hurt the season is shot regardless might as well tank it for a top pick to address QB. Kolb will do well though imo. Mike977
GReat! RoastedBird
If they grab up Garcia, Vick will have to go because he will not want to be that "specialist" QB again. Must really stomp on his ego that NOBODY wants him to be their #1 QB, and worse, not their #2 for a low price either. Looks like we'll have to hang on to him through training camp just in case some team loses their #1 guy, and we can unload him for a decent (#3?) pick in the '11 draft. Here's hoping..... TBear

Just an observation...Andy seems to always come up with players that get him to some sort of dance at the end of the year. It may not always be the final spin around the floor, but ussually close. I think all of the negative fans will end up pleasantly surprised, but we'll still have the gnawing feeling of not making it to the big one again....give the new kids a year or two....then we'll know who was right. bonnerlou
Time to end this wrong-headed travesty with The Courage Award Winner. He never could operate even Atlanta's watered down version of the WC offense. If the Gold Standard really does want to have the Best Roster In The NFL, now's time to lose the whining fraud and acquire a veteran back-up who knows this offense or, at least, is capable of learning & executing it. Then draft a developmental QB in a later round (as with AJ). Say what you want about 5's accuracy, it was always far superior to The Courage Award Winner's. No one wants him? Then just cut the dogKilling-Kan'tplay-convicK. autolykos
don't worry Kolb will lose his starting job by week six when Andy Reid realizes he made a big mistake. Remember defenses adjust just like the cowboys adjustyed to Desean Jackson and the other receivers. If the Eales don't go to a balanced offense like the 49ers with Joe Montana and Steve Young. Remember they had Roger Craig ad Tom Rathmond as the running backs. Brett Favre had Edger Bennett and Dorsey Levins during their superbowl runs. You can use the New England Patriots as posterboys for how you get it done without much of a running game but they were spying on their opponents and a play here or there and they could be put in the same breath as the Buffalo Bills. The Colts won because of their defense and th bearslack of an offense. This will be a long season unless the eagles change their offense and improve their defense. Also McNabb is gone let it be. gwilli1234
I don't think Vick is a viable, every down QB. If Kolb got hurt they'd be screwed without some sort of vet back-up. I was surprised the Eagles signed him and I would be even more surprised if another team would want to, let alone give anything up for him. jtj10
Question about Vick. Has he met all requirements and agreements concerning dog fighting? Has he done enough or does he still need to more? My opinion is if he was selling sneakers, he would be on every other commercial. Do the dog fighters get the message? bigphillydad- If only Reid would go away...
I agree with soulman. If we get a good offer like a third or fourth then Vick will be gone. Or an offer that includes a DB or S. Garcia would be an ideal mentor for Kolb and although I would miss seeing Vick in green it would be best for the team to focus on developing Kolb. Go Birds!!! NBAdraftRoom.com
I would just like to see Vick go to another team, to give everyone a chance to see what he is capable of doing. And for all of those who are wanting Garcia and Kolb to take the Eagles to that superbowl..... Oh I forgot to say good luck with that, as far as going to the superbowl with Kolb and Garcia charmaine
The Eagles understand Kolb will be a failure. 40 year old Garcia will not help. This team will be terrible next season. Just like the 1998 version with Hoying. dowens1617- No. He's done, just like Gruden said he was. Toast.

If Kolb goes down the eagles will be in real trouble with Garcia as the back up. Vick would be the obvious choice for a back up. I'd not be surprised if Vick takes the starting job from Kolb. Wilco- exactly z-force. no one is stupid enough to give the eagles a 3rd round pick for mike vick. he wasn't a very good QB 4 years ago and i can't imagine he's any better now that he has basically missed 3 seasons (30 snaps doesn't amount to a season). if you can get a 5th round pick for him, grab it and go. then get garcia. at this age, garcia is still a better QB than vick and can run a west coast offense (no way vick can run our offense if kolb goes down). the compensatory pick we would get for vick would probably be a 5th-6th round pick anyway.
LB, I know what you mean about the Birds not having 2 former pro-bowlers looking over Kolb, but I don't think they really consider Vick in the same category as Garcia. Vick can't mentor Kolb the way Garcia could, since Garcia has had significant success in the WCO and Vick hasn't had any. I think the Birds view Vick as a change-of-pace QB who can run things that no other QB in the league can. By bringing in Garcia, they add an elder statesman type QB to the roster and bring in a guy who could definitely hold the team together should Kolb go down. I think it would pretty much be the same as what they had last year--a starter they believe in, Vick at QB2, and the third QB (Kolb last year, Garcia potentially this year), who could play on an every-down basis should the starter go down. adamb103
Les, I disagree about assuming if they keep Vick, you'd want the second backup QB to be a young rookie -- unless the Eagles don't plan on running the Wildcat anymore with Vick. But if you're going to use your only experienced backup QB as a RB, you're putting him at a much higher risk of injury than a typical backup QB would be (he's at much at risk of an injury than the starting QB). So if Vick gets hurt on a Wildcat play, now your backup QB becomes a rookie? I don't think that's a smart play... dawk2020
DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHAT THEY DO NOW?D-MAC IS GONE ,KOLB IN, VICK AS BACKUP,MAYBE BRING ING BACK GARCIA? DRAFT A QB?MAYBE TRADE VICK? THE WHEEL GOES ROUND AND ROUND.TRADE THE COACH... THAT WOULD BE A GREAT START NOW,I KNEW WHEN THEY SIGNED REID TO THAT EXTENTION,1 OR ALL THREE QB'S WERE GOING TO BE OUTTA HERE,SO SUPRISE THAT IT WOULD BE D-MAC.WELL GET KOLB SOME GUYS UP FRONT,OR HE'LL BE OUTTA HERE NEXT YEAR.SOMETHING U DIDN'T DO FOR D-MAC. t_darb_56- ah damn, I love the publication, but that was harsh Onion.

If Kolb goes down, Eagles in serious trouble with Vick running Reid's pass-first offense. Garcia a much better thrower. Take what you can get for Vick now and move on. Z-Force
Didn't Garcia want out of Oakland because he wanted to start? Also, he was released from Tampa Bay because he didn't want to be a backup to whomever they would draft. Oh well, the great Jeff Garcia is what the fans wanted over Donovan apparently. hope55
i have nothing against vick but if he could help in a trade (maybe combine him with the eagles current fourth rounder to get a second or third in 2011 or something along that line) i'd do the deal in a heartbeat... point is he really adds nothing to this team that garcia could not do better and that's act as a backup and mentor to another rookie (like skelton if he he were picked)... kolb does not need mentoring from vick... if anything it be the other way around... funny thought... kolb could have mentored mcnabb... like mcnabb could learn anything.... NOT!!!!! elmeaux_b

Folks, it all depends on whether the Eagles get a good offer for Vick like a 3rd round pick. If teams are only offering 5th and 6th round picks they might as well keep Vick because they will get a compensation pick from the league when Vick signs with another team as a free agent after this season. Garcia would be a good backup QB because he's told old to cause a QB controversy but still capable of playing well in a pinch. We'll see. If they end of keeping Vick that would be fine with me. soulman386
