Nothing like what could be a little gamesmanship when it comes to the NFL.
The St. Louis Rams, the Eagles' opponent in Week 1, signed defensive tackle Marlon Favorite yesterday. Favorite had been with the Eagles throughout training camp and was released earlier this week.
Favorite had gained some acclaim for not having his name on the back of his jersey while with the Eagles, a good indication of his future with the team. At one point, he told us that his teammates were calling him "Blankman."
The defensive tackle had been with the Rams for about a week in 2009, but has been well-traveled since leaving LSU. He has spent time with Kansas City, Seattle, New Orleans, Buffalo, Indianapolis, New England and Hartford, of the UFL.
Perhaps it is nothing or perhaps former Eagles assistant Steve Spagnuolo is trying to gain all the intelligence he can on what the Eagles' plans on defense will be, especially with all the new acquisitions.
ESPN's John Clayton has done is annual preseason rankings of quarterbacks and has Michael Vick at No. 8 and among the group that he labels elite.
Writes Clayton: "Vick is once again a superstar, as he was in Atlanta, but now he's doing it in a passing offense. He averages about 30 points a game when he plays. His only concern is staying healthy because he sacrifices his body for the good of the team."
The QBs ranked higher than Vick are Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers and Matt Ryan.
Arizona starter Kevin Kolb is ranked 18th.
According to CNBC's Darren Rovell, Michael Vick's jersey was the fourth biggest seller on the league's NFL Shop web site from April 1 to Aug. 30.
Aaron Rodgers was No. 1 followed by teammate Clay Matthews. Troy Polamalu was third, followed by Vick, Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Hines Ward, Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow.
And yes, that is seven QBs in the Top 10.
