The hours are counting down to the big Monday Night Football showdown in Texas between the Eagles and the Cowboys. Here is how members of the Daily News staff see the game:

Les Bowen: Cowboys 17, Eagles 13 (For Les' expanded pick, click here)

Ed Barkowitz: Cowboys 24, Eagles 20

Bill Conlin: Eagles 24, Cowboys 17

Paul Domowitch: Cowboys 13, Eagles 10

Marcus Hayes: Cowboys 24, Eagles 16

John Smallwood: Cowboys 24, Eagles 21

Vegas Vic: Eagles 21, Cowboys 17

By the way, all eight reporters in the Dallas Morning News picks took the Cowboys.

MATCHUPS

Here are some key matchups to watch:

Eagles SLB Chris Gocong and FS Brian Dawkins vs. Cowboys TE Jason Witten: Gocong and Dawkins likely will spend the most time with Witten, who had 96 receptions last season. Advantage: Cowboys.

Eagles RDE Trent Cole vs. Cowboys LT Flozell Adams: Adams has struggled with the smaller Cole, who probably also will be chipped by a running back or tight end. Advantage: Eagles.

Eagles WR DeSean Jackson vs. Cowboys CB Anthony Henry: Henry is no match for Jackson's downfield speed, but has the size to slow him up at the line of scrimmage. Advantage: Eagles.

ONE OTHER THING

Here is an interesting take from Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, about how important this game is to the Cowboys: "To beat the Eagles and take some of their confidence away would be a big positive for Dallas. The season doesn't ride on this game – we all know that – but if Dallas doesn't win, it's psyche will be damaged no matter how the owner, coach and players attempt to spin it afterward." More from Taylor.

I want to see the Eagles play all three corners the whole game and rotate Dawk and Q. Sheldon hits like a safety anyway and is much better in coverage. Put Lito on TO and Sheldon on Witten and let Samuel roam. Blitz the safety on every down.

Flozell has problems with Cole? Did you actually watch either game last year. It was comical. What game did you watch? That was easily the most one sided match up I've seen since Larry Allen was wearing 73 for us. Get a clue.

About Eagletarian Blog
Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey. E-mail Les at bowenl@phillynews.com and follow him on Twitter.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his nearly 3 decades with the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose 2 sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, a University of Oklahoma grad who still hasn’t gotten over that Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State 5 years ago, have 2 terrific daughters -- Allison, 28, who is an attorney in South Jersey, and Amy, 25, who works in administration for a professional baseball team. E-mail Domo at PDomo@aol.com and follow him on Twitter.
