Alejandro A. Alvarez / Daily News

Donovan McNabb's much-discussed throwing shoulder will be rested for the remainder of this minicamp, which ends on Thursday.

Coach Andy Reid said McNabb has "slight tendinitis in his shoulder."

He said the injury is "very similar" to what McNabb had in 2004, the Eagles' Super Bowl season. He played in 15 games that season, sitting out only the regular-season finale because the Eagles had locked up homefield in the NFC.

"We're going to back off him, just like we did in 2004," Reid said. "He should be ready for training camp. There's no surgery. There should be no reprecussions from it."

Reid said McNabb would receive treatment on the shoulder for about 2 weeks and "then he'll be ready to go."

He said if this had been in the regular season McNabb could have played.

Reid said the injury was bothering McNabb in the first camp and then "progressed during this camp." Reid said he did not know how the injury happened and said he had expected it to go away after the first camp.He did not think McNabb's training methods affected the injury.

“That’s why we limited his number of reps," Reid said. "We limited his number of reps and we started doing that really after 2004, just being very aware of the number count, so it didn’t reoccur. But it happened and it’s not a big deal.”

Eagles rookies and selected veterans report to Lehigh on July 21 with the remainder of the team scheduled to arrive July 24.

McNabb had tried to deflect concerns about the shoulder during a session with reporters yesterday. He saw limited reps yesterday as the Eagles resumed their organized team activities following a break for the weekend.

The Eagles announced today that Jon Sandusky, the 31-year-old son of legendary Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, has been promoted from pro scout to director of pro personnel. That's the title formerly held by Scott Cohen, who recently left the team for an assistant general manager's job with the Jets.

Louis Riddick is taking Sandusky's place as pro scout. Riddick, from Quakertown and Pennridge High, played at Pitt and then for four NFL teams, as a safety.

Lets stay positive. McNabb has this in 2004 and we did pretty well that season if you recall. This is no big deal.

this makes me glad we have a seemingly capable backup in Kolb

I have always been curious, how do we know that Kolb is a capable backup or in the least bit good. He has held a clipboard his entire time as an Eagle except for a few snaps in garbage time last year (and I think he was sacked once). Hate on McNabb for whatever reason you have...runs too much...runs too little...throws up...can't win the big one...he is black...he is a winer; the fact is that he is a top 10 QB talent that many teams in the league would kill to have. Too bad we wont know that until he is gone.

This may have also happened in 2004, but McNabb is 4 years older now, with more than a few injuries in those past four years. Being shut down at this point is not a good sign. I think it's pretty apparent that Kolb will be seeing some action this year. As a four-year starter at Houston, I'm not that concerned about his inexperience. Plus, the Eagles draft strategy the past two years shows a focus on the next three-four years. It appears McNabb is on his last go-around here.

I agree with rvb2321. McNabb is a top ten quarterback in this league. He came out of a draft where all the quarterbacks drafted in the top ten were busts except for him (remember Cade McNown, Tim Couch, and Akili Smith?). The thing that cracks me up about the Kolb Krew is this -- the very people calling for Kolb to replace McNabb know nothing about Kolb. We've never seen him play, we've never seen him do anything but get sacked, and we don't know what he would do in live action at the NFL level. I hate to break it to the McNabb haters, but he is the best quarterback this team has had in the modern era. Say what you want about Van Brocklin or the guys who played before we were born. McNabb is the best quarterback I have ever seen in an Eagles uniform, and he's the best one you've ever seen, too. It would be sad if we treated him like all the other superstars we've had in this city -- hating him because the management of his team never put enough talent around him to get him over the hump.

Are we actually talking about Kevin Kolb? What evidence out there that would even mildly suggest that ANY quarterback from Houston has ever amounted to anything (please see Andre Ware's dusty Heisman trophy and the 101 fans David Klingler left behind in Cincy). People, have a little faith. McNabb will be fine...stop being morons.

Kolb is far from ready to QB this team. The idea that they would waste all of the talent on this team so a rookie QB can practice being a starter while starting is idiotic. It would be a sure way to ruin Kolb's career before it starts by putting him in a situation where he will fail. When McNabb isn't on the field for the 1st game, then you can worry. In the meantime, be happy that you have the NFL's starting QB for the next Pro Bowl playing for your team. Thanks for demonstrating how dumb racist people are.

He will be fine..... although.... that pic makes me worry. He looks huge. Enough twinkies and protien shakes #5. Im hoping that pic is from last year or something.

LJL... building for the future? How do you figure?? Laws will fit in NOW. Jackson and quinton are our return guys NOW. Outside of the draft.... Samuel is for NOW, all the additions on special teams are for NOW, Booker = NOW ... yea... they want to make sure our future looks good but they are looking at NOW. Even the trade that lands them an additional round 1 pick for next year is (in my opinion) is for NOW. I believe they believe (or believed) that they had/have a chance at getting a #1 WR out of trading them both. Will it happen? Prob not but... they are trying for NOW! Let kolb sit..... WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HIM!!!!

WOW! He's starting his aches and pains already. His whining is about to begin. I guess he's already trying to come up with a pre-existing condition so when he plays lousy like usual he can blame the tendonitis. This is usually a mid season ailment...

It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) His first beat at the Daily News actually wa s boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football.
