Expect roof to be closed

POSTED: Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 9:18 PM

TEMPE, Ariz. — The NFC Championship Game will be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium, one of three NFL venues with a retractable roof. Houston and Indianapolis are the others.

To enhance crowd noise, the roof will likely stay closed, although the week ahead sparkles with a Chamber of Commerce weather forecast. Sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s are forecast through Sunday.
The roof was closed for the Cardinals’ wild-card victory against Atlanta.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a whole new level this week because that first week against the Falcons was unbelievable,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said of the crowd noise. “I can only imagine what it’s going to be like this week — but I’m very excited about that.”

The NFL’s policy on retractable roofs is clear. The home team has up the 90 minutes before kickoff to make a decision. Once the roof is open, it can be closed during the game, for two reasons: hazardous conditions, or if it begins to rain.

The roof cannot be closed for rain after the 5-minute mark of the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Eagles played indoors at the Metrodome for their wild-card victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

I'm looking forward to the spanking the Eagles are going to put on the Cards in that Wal-Mart they call a city.
