Excited Vick says which team 'wouldn't even matter'

POSTED: Friday, January 22, 2010, 7:56 AM

Michael Vick did a lengthy interview with the Associated Press yesterday to promote the debut of his 10-part reality series on BET, "The Michael Vick Project." The first episode is scheduled to air Feb. 2.

Vick said the series will show that he is a changed man and his fall was "all my fault."

"It's still a work in progress each and every day and it's going to be that way the rest of my life," he told The AP.

As for his football future, Vick does not know where he will be playing next season. The Eagles have a $5 million option that would have to be picked up in early March. Regardless, Vick said he began working out Wednesday.

"I'm excited about everything," Vick said. "Whether I'm in Philly or Tampa Bay, it wouldn't even matter."

Working for Jerry Jones can't be easy, and Wade Phillips had to know that going in.

Jones gave Phillips his somewhat tepid support yesterday, signing him to a 2-year extension through the 2011 season. It does not include an option year for 2012. Jones told reporters that the deal contains "no comfort zone" and "addresses the urgency" to win.

"I’m excited about being the coach here," Phillips said during a news conference. "It doesn’t matter if it’s one year or 10 years. With this team right now I feel very comfortable. I think we can go further, and I think we will go further."

So, freshly minted with a new contract, Phillips is still the lamest duck of the coaches in the NFC East. All coaches serve at the wishes of their owners, but here is te contract status of his division rivals:

* Andy Reid, Eagles: As we all know, Reid signed a 3-year extension during the season that goes through the 2013 season.

* Tom Coughlin, Giants: After winning the Super Bowl, Coughlin was given a 4-year extension through 2012.

* Mike Shanahan, Redskins: The new head coach and vice president of football operations in Washington got a 5-year, $35 million deal on Jan. 5. Shanahan and Reid join Bill Belichick as the only NFL head coaches who also have full control over personnel. Of course, working for Dan Snyder is probably as bad as working for Jones.

The Cleveland Browns this week made a minor transaction whose symbolism might outweigh its value on the field.

On the same day that new GM Tom Heckert hired away two members of the Eagles' scouting department, the Browns made their first free-agent signing -- defensive back Chris Roberson.

Heckert is familiar with Roberson because Roberson spent the last four weeks of the season the Eagles' practice squad. Roberson, a former seventh-round pick of Jacksonville, would seem a likely candidate for the Browns' practice squad.

Be interesting to see who else with Eagles ties might end up in Cleveland as the offseason continues.

As much as I hate to admit it, working for Jerry Jones can't be as bad as working for Dan Snyder because Jones at least has some semblance of a clue when it comes to evaluating players and how they fit into his team. Snyder just throws money at the biggest names in free agency.

Hmmm... $5 Million for Vick in March, $6.5 Million for McNabb in May...something has to give. Going to be an interesting off season.

cBecko, I also hate to admit it but Jerry Jones is a better personnel/final say guy than Banner and Lurie put together. e.g. Vick (see above), The Andrews Sisters, Dawk, Peters, Samuel, The three headed FS's and having Reggie Brown signed until 2020............

jerry jones at least has his shawn andrews on,.....jones is committed to winning at all costs;...sometimes bad decisions are made, but they are always identified and changed,...lurie, banner and reid have too much ego to admit a mistake or mis-judgement wether philosophy or personell and the changes never come,...its the difference between winning superbowls and winning football games

Retired FB Fred McCrary came back to his hometown here in Naples, FL and gave a newspaper interview in which he stated his good friend and former Falcon QB Vick was gonna be starting for another team next year and really looking forward to the chance to be a starter again. So it would seem there is no decision to be made, it has already been made. We just aren't being told yet.

Good Luck Michael.....Hope you stay on the right track....and Jerry Jones is committed to winning...I hate his arrogance BUT all he wants todo is win....Where as Jeff is happy with where we always end up....(one or two rounds inthe palyoffs and selling merchandise) ...and Joe jsut wants to count money and kisss up to Jeff and Andy is committed to convincing every one that he is a true football genius...and all three have failed winning the only thing that counts.....a Super Bowl for 11 years....."The Eagles under Jeffery Laurie, a story of complacency"....

Lurie, Banner and the so called genious coach Andy Reid just wants to keep that stadium filled up. Until we stop supporting these loosers nothing is going to change, like I said before the next expansion team will win a Super Bowl before the Eagles, matter of fact I will say the last expansion team(Texans) will win a Super Bowl before the Eagles. Also Michael Vick will have a better year than McNabb next year whether he's in Tampa Bay or St Louis

Look at this comments. Sometimes, I find myself honestly questioning how much some Philly fans would miss the moaning and complaining about the front office if a Super Bowl victory actually happened. We have a very successful organization, but all we do is complain. Any we wonder why people hate us?

Friggin' amazing to me that this guy gets to resume his career with a contract, a TV show and free agency. He hit the lottery for killing dogs and going to jail. Where else but Amerika.

I do wish Vick the best, I understand why people are so upset in addition to how they feel about their pets, I feel the same way about my dog. But it comes to a point that enough is enough. There is nothing that Vick can do undo what was done, with exception of trying to bring something nice out of something that was so terrible. I think that we should allow him that opportunity, maybe with his speeches he will be able to reach someone who is involved in this now and make that person see the need to make a change. Lets hope that is voice will make a difference.

God Bless you Mr. Vick and best wishes wherever you play and live. People are just rude and hateful and because they cannot change they don't believe anyone can. Keep doing what you are doing. Best is yet to come.
