Eagles have talked to Mora, source says
Paul Domowitch, Daily News NFL Columnist
Jim Mora and Andy Reid have spoken about the Eagles' opening for a defensive coordinator, a league source confirmed to the Daily News today.
Mora, the former Seahawks and Falcons coach, would be interested in the position, if offered, the source said. A formal interview has not yet taken place between the two.
Mora was a member of Steve Mariucci's staff with San Francisco, when current Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was on the staff. Mora was the Niners' defensive coordinator for 5 seasons, from 1999 to 2003. Reid and Mariucci are close friends, dating back to their time together on Mike Holmgren's staff in Green Bay.
Mora served as an analyst for the NFL Network this season after being fired as the Seattle head coach following a 5-11 record in 2009. He spent 2007 and '08 as the assistant head coach/secondary in Seattle following his 3 years as the Falcons head coach.

I'm all for bringing in Mora. Whatever will get Reid out of here the fastest, I'm all for. We all know Reid is a control freak and Mora is a part of the Reid good old boy network who wouldn't rock the boat. Reid will not admit that his draft of last year is seriously over rated and will want a DC who agrees with him which will eventually be his downfall, hopefully. billro33- They already have a good DC in Dick Jauron on the staff. Forget 3-4 alignment. They're DL is way undersized and the LB's are not that good. Maybe after AR brings in a nose tackle, you could move Cole out to LB on one side with Graham the other. Still need personnel. Not gonna happen. Oh, here's a shocker: McNabb will be back. You heard it here.
Someone else mentioned it yesterday, but how about prying Keith Butler from Pittsburgh? As "DC in waiting" for when LeBeau retires, but I would have to think that a DC job with good pay would entice him. I know he is a 3-4 guy, but he is very much an up and coming coach. redcans
after ranking last in red zone defense,by hiring mora we really have nothing to lose! and obviously nothing to gain either! Geno D
please not Mora! pick a guy from a winning program..Greene maybe? bill poore
Hire Jim Moron Jr. as defensive coordinator, and we won't be talking about playoffs. rhawnhurster
Time to catch up people, Ryan is in Dallas, Singletary will be in Minnesota and Fox is the new HC in Denver. That means those guys are no longer available. Jeez, pay attention! amg
Comment removed.
Called this one yesterday! bkg126
Doesn't matter, Eagles will still draft undersized guys from no name colleges and get pushed all over the field. The organizational philosophy must change. Anyone else notice that 3 of the 4 football teams still playing are known for running the ball and having a big physical defense. It's not a coincidence. TimO- I hope it's not Mora. He has never impressed me. Besides, keep him away from Vick! I don't want Greene either, he doesn't have the D-coord experience we want. There are still lots of guys out there, including Jauron.
To show you how utterly bad a move this would be, Mora has only been the DC for 5 years out of his career (and may have had a hand when he was a head coach of course).
From 1999-2003 The 49ers finished 30th, 28th, 9th, 18th, and 21st in total D.
From 2004-2006 while he was head coach, the Falcons finished 14th, 18th, and 15th.
So the only possible way we could somebody more mediocre is if the Skins let Haslett go and the Eagles picked him up.
So knowing the Eagles, they will pick the guy who has NEVER had a successful D anywhere in his career, and expect that THIS time things will be different! jimmyj- Mora the same mediocrity. The Land Whale must go!
Why would the eagles give this dude the time of day he is a horrible coach! I swear the only reason he won any games in ATL was cause of Vick!!! I still don't understand how he was given the job when he was fired for what he specialized in at the 49ers. They turned down Lovie Smith for this dope! shaad
Please... no... no more "West Coast" fraternity people, offense, defense, whatever. It was all fine and good in its day, with the right coaches and talent (meaning the 1980s SF 49ers), but its day is done. Either start by creating the East Coast Offense and East Coast Defense, or fire from the top. Let's stop being followers of stuff that doesn't work anymore, and create our own mark. Hire Barry Alvarez, former coach of Wisconsin. He's FROM Pennsylvania, so he gets us. Power running and and power D. Enough of finesse ball, already. Give Vick or Kolb, or heck, even McNabb, that kind of game plan, and any one of them would live to see the next game in Pro-Bowl form. Peace. landt
