Eagles have talked to Mora, source says
Paul Domowitch, Daily News NFL Columnist
Jim Mora and Andy Reid have spoken about the Eagles' opening for a defensive coordinator, a league source confirmed to the Daily News today.
Mora, the former Seahawks and Falcons coach, would be interested in the position, if offered, the source said. A formal interview has not yet taken place between the two.
Mora was a member of Steve Mariucci's staff with San Francisco, when current Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was on the staff. Mora was the Niners' defensive coordinator for 5 seasons, from 1999 to 2003. Reid and Mariucci are close friends, dating back to their time together on Mike Holmgren's staff in Green Bay.
Mora served as an analyst for the NFL Network this season after being fired as the Seattle head coach following a 5-11 record in 2009. He spent 2007 and '08 as the assistant head coach/secondary in Seattle following his 3 years as the Falcons head coach.

I would like Rob Ryan before he gets a job with Dallas. However, the defense needs an upgrade in talent. I think they did very well with what they had. It is a young group but I don't know how many impact guys we really have. hawk18
Kevin Greene a possibility? AjaxOH- i hope they interiew Kevin Greene [currently on Steelers staff] for the position. He seems firey, and was a heck of a player. he would probably bring some much-needed emphasis to the linebacker position!! fillyfan
- Rob Ryan would be great.. I think he is a 3-4 guy though.. Kevin Greene.. I like that AjaxOH.. for sure albertpa
Here are the numbers from Mora's DC tenure in San Fran:
Year Team Yards Passing Rushing Points
1999 49ers 28th 31st (Last) 15th 30th
2000 49ers 29th 29th 16th 28th
2001 49ers 13th 19th 9th 9th
2002 49ers 14th 22nd 7th 18th
2003 49ers 13th 17th 9th 21st
totally mediocre!
JBinPA- Not real sure Mora is the answer. I'd be let down (again) if that was the direction they go in before they interview other potential candidates. JReamer
Kevin Greene is currently the Packers LB coach. He'd be a great choice! BGarber- Makes no difference at this point. Andy's time is running out with the fans here. I would however prefer Dick Jauron.
Could be interesting since Mora was coach over Vick for 2 years. phillyjhawk- JBinPA is right, Mora has never been a championship coach. The Eagles' defense is young without question and has holes that obviously need to be filled. McDermott's defense had the fat man's OK and the Birds would still be playing if Akers hadn't choked.
- rob ryan is supposed to be dallas' new dc. [mispoke @ greene being on steelers' staff] fillyfan
- I'd like to see them go totally Pittsburgh.....all the way from GM to head coach and assistants....the whole gamut....clean sweep, get
Andy and his cronies the H**l out of here. djlen - Mora? Surely someone better is available right?
