Eagles looking to add tight end; ASPCA on Vick

The Eagles' search for another tight end is contiuning in the wake of Cornelius Ingram's season-ending knee injury.
The team evaluated Tony Curtis on Friday and could sign him pending a physical, according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network. The Eagles have made no official announcement.
Curtis has played in 36 career games with the Cowboys and recorded 11 catches for 50 yards and three touchdowns (all three game in 2007). Hehad eight receptions for 32 yards last season with the Cowboys.
He was an undrafted free agent in 2005 and had been with Dallas his entire career until joining the Chiefs this offseason after they traded Tony Gonzalez to Atlanta. He was released by Kansas City when Amani Toomer was signed.
Behind starter Brent Celek and veteran backup Matt Schobel, the Eagles have been working in undrafted free agents Eugene Bright, a converted defensive end from Purdue, and Rob Myers, from Utah State, who joined the team late in camp.
Celek, nursing a shoulder injury, did not play against the Colts on Thursday as a precaution. Schobel started and did not have a reception. Myers had four catches for 44 yards with a long of 17.

In other news, the ASPCA has broken its relative silence on the Michael Vick issue, releasing a statement yesterday that condemns "60 Minutes" for giving Vick a forum. The group says that Vick's PR team approached them about working with him but the APSCA turned Vick down.
Here is part of the statement released by Ed Sayres, the ASPCA president and CEO:
"Mr. Vick has indeed been given another chance to play football with the Philadelphia Eagles. It is important to state that the ASPCA is extremely disappointed that owner Jeff Lurie hired him for his team before it was clear that Mr. Vick has truly developed a sense of compassion for his victims, the animals whose lives were taken by him. The ASPCA believes in second chances -- in redemption -- but that second chance has to be earned through contrition, conversion to the cause of animal welfare and finally, through hard work. Mr. Vick has only now begun his journey toward a second chance. It will be a long and hard road for him, and while we wish him well, we also want to remind the nation that the work of ridding the nation of dog fighting is as compelling a story as one man's path to redemption. Let's not forget to focus on the animals, the crimes that are still being committed every day in the United States. What are we, as a nation, going to do about that? How are we going to express our outrage long past the first time Mr. Vick takes the field in Philadelphia?"
if u have such a problem with the homie mike vick then DONT watch him, the eagles, or the nfl. u r entitled to ur opinion, but the fact is what the lord has to say about it and apparently the lord is giving vick a second chance and who am i or anyone to go against that. Notty Dred

What does the fact that people are killed every day, and we euthanize pets, and we kill animals for their meat have to do with an individual who brutally tortured dogs and viciously killed them? If they couldn't fight and couldn't be pets, as someone asserted, what kind of person would take pleasure in devising the cruelest possible ways to kill them? He could have shot the dogs in the head, but it was more fun to drown, electrocute, hang, and slam them to the ground. Picture that and think about it. I personally don't care if he plays football or makes a lot of money but the analogies I see people making are ridiculous. I heard one radio caller compare Vick to Martha Stewart because they are both "felons." Get real. There is something wrong with a person's basic makeup to engage in such souless behavior over such a long period. I believe his remorse has only to do with his loss of freedom, fortune, and fame. Now he has two of them back and is working on building the fortune again. I seriously doubt he suddenly cares about animal welfare; he's got to try to shine everybody on and play that role to get by. I expect we'll see some token efforts for awhile and that will quickly dissipate. For those who want to compare this to the larger world problems, this is a board about this story. There are plenty of boards on more serious matters, so why are you reading and posting here? steelydad
Re: "ASPCA: How many dogs have you killed?" Do they torture and devise cruel ways to kill dogs that need to be euthanized? Another great example of a thoughtless analogy. steelydad
beat a dead horse a2000? atleast u didnt say beat a dead dog bdawkisgod

Notty Dred - I agree w/ you 100%. The NFL is entertainment. Nothing more. If you don't like the people playing - DON'T WATCH. The man is playing football, he does not work at Pet Smart and he's not you pet's vet. Just because he chose a career that makes more money than all of us, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a second chance and NO ONE will know if he utilizes it or takes advantage of it until time has passed. Until then give the man a chance because at some point in all our lives someone has given us one. Peace out cub scouts. vladamir

Eagles wouldn't be looking for a tight end if they had paid atention to the rst of the league and not drafted a TE whose knee was not healed and was ready to burst as soon as he started to practice. The rest of the teams saw it but either the Eagles missed it or they ignored it in their usual inability to pass up a bargain. Not the season is ready to start and they need a TE. atp2007
the mike vick apologists have so many excuses for the convicted dog killer, dick chaney, camps in africa, leagalized hunting, stalworth, george washington,mt rushmore,a competitor might get him,LOLOLOLOLOL please stop, your killing me. jack russell

I assume everyone screaming about the poor little pit bulls here is a vegan right? If not, does your arbitrary moral relativism bother you at all? Again, does anyone know what happens to a cow before it ends up as a steak? It's not pretty. And yet most of us who eat meat, myself included, traffic in the inhumane treatment of animals. Why do we make distinctions between pit bulls and farm animals? Killing one kind of animal is inhumane, killing another is sustenance? Do you people listen to yourselves? Are you fully cognizant of the food industry in this country? Me, I choose to remain largely ignorant, because there is only so many things I can care about in the world, and I suspect that makes me like most everyone else. How about this? How about we pick one day where only the vegetarians and vegans can comment about Michael Vick and the killing of these dogs. Everyone else, take your frankfurters, your hoagies and your cheese steaks, put them in your mouths, and shut up. andrewfrombrooklyn
So you have to be a vegan if you're against dogfighting, Andrew? That's a pretty dumb remark. If you're the same Andrew I think you are, go back to commenting on the space shuttle endeavurrr. The_Unknown-Poster
