Eagles' draft questions

The conversation turned to April's NFL draft quickly after the Eagles lost Sunday in the NFC Championship Game, beginning in the Daily News with Rich Hofmann's column about choosing a big running back.

The countdown at the top of theWeb page for draft guide Ourlads tells you that the draft is 93 days, 22 hours and 45 minutes away from starting as we write this.

We know the Eagles will have two first-round picks in the draft, theirs and the pick belonging to the Carolina Panthers, meaning No. 21 and No. 28. The Eagles moved out of the first round last year with a draft-day trade, you might recall.

We scanned some of the available mock drafts and here is what we found for guesses -- emphasis on guesses, here this long before the draft -- of which players the Eagles could select.

Fox Sports: Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham and Oklahoma offenisve tackle Phil Loadholt.

CBS Sportsline: Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew and Oregon offensive tackle Max Unger.

Draftcountdown.com: Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy and Arizona offensive tackle Eben Britton.

NFLDraftBlitz.com: Baylor offenisve tackle Jason Smith and Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

ESPN.com: Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

Of course, as noted below, some of the mocks were last updated early last week, because Gresham has since announced he was returning to Oklahoma.

No surprises that the mocks have the Eagles looking at an offensive tackle, especially with Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan aging and Winston Justice seemingly off to oblivion, and tight end, with the expected departure of L.J. Smith.

Again, long way to go ...
