We rarely do promotional announcements here at Eagletarian, but this is for a good cause.

The Eagles have announced details of a new preseason fundraising event that will replace the annual Eagles Carnival.

Rather than an afternoon event in late August, the Eagles will hold Eagles Flight Night on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field, with proceeds still benefitting the Eagles Youth Partnership.

The new event features an open preseason practice, fireworks, player intros, autographed merchandise for sale, giveaways and interactive events, appearances by Eagles alumni, Swoop and the cheerleaders.

According to the Eagles' Web site, ticket prices start at $20 for an adult and $10 for children, 12 and under, who purchase seats toward the end zone. Tickets between the 40-yard lines will cost $30 per person. By purchasing club seats, at $45 a ticket, fans can meet cheerleaders and alumni members.

Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at PhiladelphiaEagles.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000.

This should be a free event for season ticket holders who still have to buy the two preseason home game tickets at full price every year.

Wow....you want a free ticket to a charity event? How selfish is that? No doubt the preseason games shouldn't be so expensive, but the two items are entirely unrelated.

I think a tailgate party and fireworks show in the parking lot would beat that in a heartbeat. Think I'll save the $$ and just BBQ in the Wachovia Parking lot.

Thats a shame! Replacing the Carnival with this??? I've attended the Carnival every year since it started. It was always something that I looked forward to and it will be missed greatly. I can't see how they will make more money with this event for EYP than they made with the carnival...

Some of you people would complain if you were hung with a new rope. I am glad to see that the Eagles are continuing their charitable ways. Were I still in the Philly area I would gladly support this event.

As a regular attendee of the carnival, I can not see this event making nearly as much $$ for EYP as the carnival did. The carnival will be back next year, book it!

and the whining continues... P.S. yourkidishot - these charitable events are held so that there is a venue where the fans can give back. This isn't lurie's personal charity day... tjeagles - Just because you liked the carnival so much doesnt mean everything else will suck...

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.
