Birds Bring Hamilton Home

POSTED: Thursday, May 27, 2010, 12:19 PM

Safety Ryan Hamilton, a former Council Rock North star, was on the field at NovaCare today wearing jersey No. 48, just a few days after being released by the Saints.

Hamilton said the Birds, his favorite team growing up, inquired about signing him in the hours after last month's NFL draft, but he had already signed with the Saints. The opportunity for Hamilton to play near home arose again after injuries to some offensive performers led New Orleans to want to bring in reinforcements -- something that required them to make cuts elsewhere.

"I was the only rookie" at the safety position, where New Orleans is pretty well stocked, Hamilton said.

Hamilton (6-2, 210) started 34 consecutive games at Vanderbilt, with his best year coming as a junior when he posted career highs in tackles (104), tackles for a loss (4.5) and interceptions (3).

"I came over here yesterday, did a workout for the coaches, signed immediately after that," Hamilton said after his first rookie camp workout. "I'm just trying to pick everything up as quick as I can, trying to catch up to all the guys that have been here a while ... I've always taken a lot of pride in being a good student of the game, so I expect to catch up pretty quick."

The Eagles released corner Josh Morris, a rookie free agent from Weber State.

The Eagles also confirmed the hiring of Daniel Jeremiah as West Coast area scout, as was reported in today's Daily News.

A former scout for the Cleveland Browns (2007-08) and Baltimore Ravens (2003-06), Jeremiah was a starting quarterback for Appalachian State for three years (1998-2000) after transferring from Northeast Louisiana (1996-97). He graduated from Appalachian State with a degree in broadcast management and marketing and worked as a production assistant for ESPN’s Sunday Night Football from 2001-02 prior to joining the Ravens. He also has authored a popular website, movethesticks.com, which he has discontinued.

Today was the final installment of rookie camp. Henceforth, when somebody Tweets about so-and-so working "with the first team" it won't be complete nonsense, since the real players will be here when activity resumes Tuesday. (Partial nonsense, maybe, since we're still a long way from  Lehigh in evrery way but the weather, but not complete nonsense.)

Lonewolf is no dummy, take his advice and start Kolb at free safety, quarterback, running back and linebacker...Birds are a cinch to reach the superbowl!

another reach or not, the eagles did not get the job done during the draft, regardless ofpsoition , safety, corner, DT, Center... they just did not get the job done which forces them to search high and low for other options. Roseman should be fired!

Hamilton is the last piece of the puzzle. With him starting at free safety, and Tapp and Sims each recording at least twelve sacks apiece, not to mention Graham, I see the Birds being the #1 defensive team in the league and going 14-2 at worst. Finally, a Superbowl triumph !!.

Kolb is now motivating defensive players too? I think that is a little over the top. If I'm one of these guys i'd be motivated by the fact that I have a shot at a million dollars if i play well.

I'm with lonewolf 10. Great pick-up. These are they types of moves that fans don't appreciate but what makes the Eagles the best in the business at managing a roster. I can't wait for the regular season. Anything less than 12 wins and at least getting to the NFC title game will be a failure.

My apologies to the REAL "Lonewolf 10", because this guy MUST be a imposter. Because not even (the real) Wiffie is this incredibly f@#%ing STUPID!

All I want to know is how many ACL tears has this dude had in the last several years? Better be at least 1 or this guy will be amongst the first round of cuts this summer.

the front office has shown time and time again that they are cheap. Look at this past year and how much payroll they cut from the team. And are they better than last year? Do they have a better secondary? Do they have a better offensive line? I'm more worried about Nick Cole than I am about Kolb. Anyone hear how Jamal Jackson is doing?

Another witty move by the Eagles. They know talent and have the luxury of having the greatest motivator of men leading this team in Kevin Kolb. Kolb will make sure he learns his assignments and will ensure that he will have a extensive career in the NFL which is something McNabb always tried to prevent with the young guys. Hamilton has tremendous size and speed and with the guidance of Kolb he could turn into the next Ronnie Lott

He's a camp body, that's it. If he makes the team it will be a miracle. Those are the kinds of players you add before camp. Has nothing to do with the front office.

Nuggett... its for bodies in camp. The more scrubs and scout teamers you have, its more of a load taken off of your real players. If you were a football fan, you would know this.
