UPDATED: Maclin arrived at the airport this morning and is on his way to Lehigh.
If you're heading up to Lehigh this morning, pumped to see just-signed first-round pick Jeremy Maclin, alas, the Eagles say Maclin is still en route from St. Louis. A team spokesman said Maclin might be a possibility for this afternoon's 2 p.m. special teams session.
Hey, it's not like there's any urgency or anything -- this is only the ninth day of workouts since Maclin was supposed to report, with the other rookies.
There were reports back around the opening of camp that Maclin was in Philadelphia, awaiting resolution of the contract talks, so he could get to Bethlehem quickly. If that was true, it was no longer true by the time the parties finally reached agreement, late Monday night.
It's amazing that, with his side predicting a resolution all day Monday, Maclin would not have wanted to get to Philly in case that happened.
Meanwhile, with the season-ending injury to middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, the San Diego Union-Tribune said the Eagles have added linebacker Matt Wilhelm, who was released by the Chargers before the start of training camp. The Eagles said Tuesday that both Wilhelm and defensive end Jason Babin, whose signing was trumpeted by a Michigan TV station, are working out for the team today. A spokesman said neither player has been signed..
Wilhelm, 26, was a fourth-round pick of the Chargers in 2003 out of Ohio State and was primarily a special-teamer and backup, although he started 14 games in 2007 and split time as the starter at inside linebacker last season.
And if you want to all there is to know about Matt Wilhelm, here is a profile done on him by the newspaper's features section at the end of 2007. Keep in mind the timing of the article before you judge his perfect CD mix.
More to come from Lehigh as the day gets going ...
