Eagles add linebacker, QB, tight end
Les Bowen and Daily News staff
The Eagles began a run of three selections in five picks late in the fourth round by selecting Oklahoma linebacker Keenen Clayton, at No. 121 overall. He is the fifth consecutive defensive player that the Eagles have selected thus far.
They finally broke the string of defensive players by selecting Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka at No. 122 and Missouri State tight end Clay Harbor at No. 125.
Keenan is a smaller linebacker at 6-1, 229 and could potentially be more of a strong safety. A two-year starter at Oklahoma, he made 75 tackles in 2009 in 13 games and had 84 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 14 games as a junior.
Kafka will be the Eagles’ third quarterback behind Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick, or if Vick is traded, another veteran. Kafka got his starting job back last season and threw for 3,480 yards with a .648 completion percentage. He threw 16 touchdowns but also 12 interceptions.
Kafka is a mobile quarterback who throws well in the spread offense and made a strong impression at the scouting combine. He is the fifth quarterback selected.
Kafka said the Eagles came to his Pro Day and talked to him at the combine. He said the Northwestern offense is based on West Coast concepts. “I’m so happy to be there,” he said.
He largely played behind C.J. Bacher for 3 years. "It was definitely tough. As a competitor, you never want to hear the words, 'be patient.' "
He was asked if he thought he'd fit right in with Andy Reid, since he once threw 78 passes in a NW game. "That's great," he said. "That's exactly what I look for."
Harbor, 6-3, 252, had 59 receptions for 729 yards with four touchdowns as a senior. In 43 career games, he had 150 receptions for 1,906 yards and 10 touchdowns.
"I think I'm a great fit for the organization," Harbor said.
He was a high school wide receiver who long jumped 22-2 and then gained 50 pounds in college and was moved to tight end.
The Eagles used a fifth-round pick last year to select Florida tight end Cornelius Ingram, but he suffered a knee injury during training camp, requiring a second surgery in 2 years on the same knee. The initial injury cost Ingram his senior year at Florida.
No. 121 is actually the only one of the Eagles’ original selections among their scheduled nine picks today.
Earlier in the fourth round, the Eagles selected Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley.
The Eagles' pick at No. 122 was acquired from Green Bay, and No. 125 was acquired from Cleveland. Both those picks were part of trades Friday night as the Eagles moved down.
They also pick in the fifth round at Nos. 134 and 146, at No. 200 in the sixth round and Nos. 243 and 244 in the seventh.

People still worried about Vick and his issue with dogs, funny thing dogfighting and dog killing is still going on today, start worrying in the real world and not on the internet. Before the season is over and Kevin shows he can't do what those think he can, the shout will be like it was in Atlanta. GET OVER THE DOG ISSUE charmaine
never read so many bogus blogs from so many losers...pllez all u mentally challenges peepl, wipe the druel from your faces and go back to buildn birdhouses and get of this website... theHeadbuster
I so hope Vick gets traded. Please Andy Reid, get that dogkiller off this team! sjjr
With what we had going into the draft.....we could have taken a CB at 24, traded up into the 1st round and possibly gotten Pouncey (37 and 55 would have put us at 19) and then traded both 3rd rounders to move into the 2nd round and taken a FS. I think we would have been better off getting 3 starters. innominatedoc
UGLY......not the draft.... its the people who have absolutly no idea what they are talking about. Then they have to get ignorant about it to boot. UGLY. bigphillydad
I am glad that everyone had out their crystal balls this year. We all see how the draft analysis went from the experts and the peanut gallery and it didnt go well at all.. Thats one thing to be guaranteed , is that nothing is guaranteed. We will just have to wait and see and for the most part the organization has been on average maybe a B- ( up for debate)..So I expect nothing less right now with their selections.. I am still a fan and will always be a fan... Jerryiz
With all the various draft picks, seems like we could have come out of this draft with Sean Lee, Zoltan Mesko (Michigan punter), and a really good corner. Ricky Sapp was a good pick up in the 5th round. In the 3rd round I wanted the Eagles to pick him, but they must have known he wasn't high on other boards (besides Mel Kiper's). tacklinjoe- Blount Oregon
You people just do NOT understand - Andy and the Eagles are SO MUCH smarter than everyone else!! Remember?! Shame on all of us not to remember that as the Eagles just stunned the rest of the experts with these somewhat ridiculous picks. I mean, great picks, because these ARE the Eagles we are talking about!! knebman
Hey Murrayman, just curious... on which side are you related to Andy Reid? You realize the Eagles took a QB named KAFKA and their draft has been BIZARRE when you consider they took three more DE-LB hybrids (see Gocong, Chris or Smith, Bryan or McCoy, Matt)and no O linemen. Have a little fun here and don't take it all so dead seriously! dasher
Everyone hated celek pick, justice pick, lito/sheldon picks. get over it, see what happens fman727
Hairball, you hit the nail on the head my friend ! phillyjim7- Ozone, that sounded kinda fruity. Corey301
Can't wait to see this power offensive line protect the great Kevin Kobb. Guess the Eagles are convinced their O-line is fine as is. Now we will see if Kevin can be as effective as McNabb with a subpar line. This is another year of the Eagles bamboozling the intelligent, informed and neurotic media driven fan base who think they know but really don't. Looks like the Eagles filled their need for camp bodies that will never start or make the team. Go E-A-G-L-E-S! thetruth1960
Before you get madder because they took no OL projects you do have to realize that they have a few and as fans we have no idea what they really think of them. I mean, how does Andy really feel about McGlynn? Murrayman
The only realities are that the stands will be full and the Birds will continue to be the ONLY team in the NFC East to have never won a Superbowl. Hey,but they got that 40 yr. waiting list for season tics. Yeah, baby!! afrdmd
Unless we're picking up 2-3 offensive linemen via trades in the next few weeks, we're going to be relying on another patchwork line with two guys still rehabbing from serious injuries. Wouldn't that warrant picking up at least 1-2 decent offensive line prospects in rounds 1-3? Just stating what I think is the obvious. I hope they trade for some guys, but it seems unlikely post draft. Fozzie27
Kafkaesque draft? That's a new one. I've heard Kafkaesque in relation to situations in which one finds themselves in a surreal, almost dangerous predicament but the entire draft? Kafkaesque, from a fans perspective? The main source of entertainment for me is to realize that any of you dolts think you know anything at all and display an almsost pathological overconfidence in your ability to think you know more than Andy Reid. It's comical. It's - dasher - uh very - Ignatius Reillyish. Murrayman
The Eagles will rue letting the kid from my alma mater (IUP) go to Dallas. PhillyRising
Now this literally is a Kafkaesque draft for the Eagles! dasher
This is what happens when you have accountants running the draft. They pick players who can't believe they've been selected so high and are willing to sign for a case of Crackerjacks. hairball
Doesn't make a blessed diff who they draft. The masses will keep fillin' the stands regardless. What a bunch of ids. afrdmd
Plus he's a Tiger. Gimme a Gamecock anyday!!! ozone
Comment removed.
Now we have an undersized def. end.???? Why the heck is fat boy Reid enamored with little people. ozone
if our 3rd round pick was looking at his wall when we pick him i bet our 4th round picks were working at mcdonals. phillyfan0307
they just keep picking undersized players in the draft...they need bigger ppl on defense if they dont want to get run over by other big nfc east teams. so far we got a 3rd down de, avg saftey, 3rd string qb, and bunch of pratice team players. FAT ANDY SAYS" we got everyone we wanted in this draft" really???? phillyfan0307
I am bigger than Clayton...so maybe I should be the Eagles next linebacker....hahahahahahaha. Another genius pick! Nice job boys. Can't wait for the 6-10 record next year. With so many holes, I'm glad they are getting all these fringe players! LMFAO! scootch
How come we have so many out of work experts grading the Eagles's drafts? WhoaBoy
Yeah, our o-line must be a strength no one but Howie Reid is aware of. Shawn's getting his Phelps on as we speak. PhillySubsMac
i really like all the o-line help the eagles have gotten in this draft. sasquatches
Pass on Norwood for this dwarf, Clayton???? ozone
starting to see a trend with Eagles picks round 3-4... they're all grading out much lower than what the other NFL teams are taking around now. Some of these guys even grade out around the free agent level - so wondering why we had to do so much maneuvering to get all these picks.... just go down to the local bar and invite some equally talented guys to training camp! oldowl
kafka was a good pick PhillySports23
lmao...gotta luv the pix today...hahahahahaha Chzsteak
Don't know about this guy because we have cornelious Ingram. Eagles should have got cam thomas or offensive lineman. briandawkins20
NFL.com gives this guy a 2.0 (out of 10.0 rating). Just like Teo. From their analysis: "Clayton is a good football player but is limited due to his size, which likely will relegate him to a back-up role and special teams duty." Great. hairball
