Eagles add linebacker, QB, tight end

POSTED: Saturday, April 24, 2010, 11:22 AM

The Eagles began a run of three selections in five picks late in the fourth round by selecting Oklahoma linebacker Keenen Clayton, at No. 121 overall. He is the fifth consecutive defensive player that the Eagles have selected thus far.

They finally broke the string of defensive players by selecting Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka at No. 122 and Missouri State tight end Clay Harbor at No. 125.

Keenan is a smaller linebacker at 6-1, 229 and could potentially be more of a strong safety. A two-year starter at Oklahoma, he made 75 tackles in 2009 in 13 games and had 84 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 14 games as a junior.

Kafka will be the Eagles’ third quarterback behind Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick, or if Vick is traded, another veteran. Kafka got his starting job back last season and threw for 3,480 yards with a .648 completion percentage. He threw 16 touchdowns but also 12 interceptions.

Kafka is a mobile quarterback who throws well in the spread offense and made a strong impression at the scouting combine. He is the fifth quarterback selected.

Kafka said the Eagles came to his Pro Day and talked to him at the combine. He said the Northwestern offense is based on West Coast concepts. “I’m so happy to be there,” he said.

He largely played behind C.J. Bacher for 3 years. "It was definitely tough. As a competitor, you never want to hear the words, 'be patient.' "

He was asked if he thought he'd fit right in with Andy Reid, since he once threw 78 passes in a NW game. "That's great," he said. "That's exactly what I look for."

Harbor, 6-3, 252, had 59 receptions for 729 yards with four touchdowns as a senior. In 43 career games, he had 150 receptions for 1,906 yards and 10 touchdowns.

"I think I'm a great fit for the organization," Harbor said.

He was a high school wide receiver who long jumped 22-2 and then gained 50 pounds in college and was moved to tight end.

The Eagles used a fifth-round pick last year to select Florida tight end Cornelius Ingram, but he suffered a knee injury during training camp, requiring a second surgery in 2 years on the same knee. The initial injury cost Ingram his senior year at Florida.

No. 121 is actually the only one of the Eagles’ original selections among their scheduled nine picks today.

Earlier in the fourth round, the Eagles selected Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley.

The Eagles' pick at No. 122 was acquired from Green Bay, and No. 125 was acquired from Cleveland. Both those picks were part of trades Friday night as the Eagles moved down.

They also pick in the fifth round at Nos. 134 and 146, at No. 200 in the sixth round and Nos. 243 and 244 in the seventh.

With all the various draft picks, seems like we could have come out of this draft with Sean Lee, Zoltan Mesko (Michigan punter), and a really good corner. Ricky Sapp was a good pick up in the 5th round. In the 3rd round I wanted the Eagles to pick him, but they must have known he wasn't high on other boards (besides Mel Kiper's).

I am glad that everyone had out their crystal balls this year. We all see how the draft analysis went from the experts and the peanut gallery and it didnt go well at all.. Thats one thing to be guaranteed , is that nothing is guaranteed. We will just have to wait and see and for the most part the organization has been on average maybe a B- ( up for debate)..So I expect nothing less right now with their selections.. I am still a fan and will always be a fan...

With what we had going into the draft.....we could have taken a CB at 24, traded up into the 1st round and possibly gotten Pouncey (37 and 55 would have put us at 19) and then traded both 3rd rounders to move into the 2nd round and taken a FS. I think we would have been better off getting 3 starters.

People still worried about Vick and his issue with dogs, funny thing dogfighting and dog killing is still going on today, start worrying in the real world and not on the internet. Before the season is over and Kevin shows he can't do what those think he can, the shout will be like it was in Atlanta. GET OVER THE DOG ISSUE
