Birds sign Safety Scirrotto, Bring Back DE
Daily News staff
The Eagles have signed Anthony Scirrotto, a West Deptford and Penn State safety, after placing Antoine Harris (foot) on IR.
Scirrotto was the lucky winner out of four safeties auditioned over the past two days.
Earlier, the team brought back defensive end Eric Moncur, signed as a rookie free agent after the draft, then released Aug. 2.
Moncur is the third Eagles player to be brought back to camp this year after being cut, not including linebacker Tracy White, who was allowed to become a free agent, then signed when camp started..
Moncur played at the University of Miami, registering 110 tackles and 11 sacks in his career.

In other news on defense, the Birds were asked Sunday to evaluate the performance Friday in the preseason opener against Jacksonville.
“It’s a small step and we still have a long way to go and we’re trying every day," linebacker Stewart Bradley said, seeing his first game action since the 2008 season. "It’s better than giving up two touchdowns, so we’re headed in the right direction.”
Added linebacker Ernie Sims, “We’ve been doing pretty well lately but we’re still not where we want to be. We’re still coming out here and we’ve got training camp two-a-days to keep coming out here and work hard.”
For Sims, it was also his first experience at the Linc as an Eagle after the offseason trade from Detroit:
“I didn’t have to hit on my own teammates and it felt good to go up against an opponent and work on my skills and technique versus our opponent," he said. "It was fun being in the stadium and seeing the crowd, with the wave, and it was nice.”

The where will Brian Westbrook land mystery continues, but Redskins coach Mike Shanahan continues to say that the team is interested.
"Like I told you, I'm not sure what direction he's going," Shanahan told the Washington Post. "But we've been entertaining that option. I'm not sure what direction he's going at this time."
He also said there was no timetable for a decision. ESPN's Chris Mortensen has reported that Westbrook will make a decision by today.
Westbrook's brother, Byron, who plays for the Redskins, told ESPN 980 in Washington that Brian had other opportunities, looking at both Buffalo and San Francisco as potential destinations.

The Minnesota Vikings were interested in former Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia, if Brett Favre decided not to play, Garcia's father, Bobby, told the Gilroy Dispatch, Garcia's hometown paper in California.
Jeff Garcia has since decided to play with the Omaha Nighthawks, of the UFL, although he has yet to sign a contract.
The Eagles will keep 5 DE's: Trent Cole, Brandon Graham, Teo Neseim, Darryl Tapp and Juqua Parker. Fokou also makes the roster if he is listed as a DE but his natural position is LB. I really liked how the Eagles Defense played against the jags. It looked really good. briandawkins20
Because of the preseason game against the Jags, Ernie Sims said it felt good that he didn't have to hit on any of his teammates. I'm sure that's good news to Todd Heremanns. ej610- +1
What decision by today? what Westbrook will have for breakfast????elaborate for people who may not have been following his nitwitter account. -not bob levy remyy
@ej610 wins for best post of the day. B in DC- That you brian dawkins for your in-depth analysis and comments after every article. Without you I would never know that a hall-of-fame QB in McNabb actually suck and an inexperienced QB Kolb will take Eagles to the super-bowl. I also would never know about the defence which all of a sudden has no holes and the offence with all those weapons which Kolb will use to cause fits for other defences. I would never know that Eagles will go 16-0 if it was not for you, Wolf, And Doo Doo.
remyy what planet you living on brother? Anyone that follows football even a little knows that Westbrook is reportedly going to make a decision today on which team he is going with for this season. obergruber

ej610: If you were watching, he didn't hit anybody! tigerwoods: To be fair, he's no worse than all of the other PSU secondary guys who can't play in the pros, and he's considerably better than the QB's who never even make it to a camp! jimmyj
Keenan Clayton has played safety in college. Now might be a good time to see what he's still got. Dial it up 1X, KC's 46 defense; try it. mccloudmj

Comment removed.- Scirotto was a beast as PSU but had some injury problems. Had he stayed healthy he was on track to becoming a big time football player Ryan
