Eagles' Andrews seeing another specialist
Daily News staff
Injured Eagles guard Shawn Andrews is in Los Angeles today seeing another back specialist.
Andrews will visit with Dr. Robert Watkins, who operated on Tra Thomas' lower back in November 2005. Watkins will be the fourth specialist whom Andrews has seen.
“We want to make sure we get a clear read on this thing and see if we can’t find a solution,” coach Andy Reid said during his day-after news conference.
Reid said the injury had not continued to progress. Asked if Andrews might have to be put on IR, Reid said: "Rick [Burkholder] and I are going to try to exhaust every means to see what the problem is."
Andrews has not played since getting injured against Dallas in Week 2. Max Jean-Gilles has filled in and suffered a shoulder strain yesterday against San Francisco but returned to the game.
In other Eagles injury news: Lito Sheppard has a hamstring strain, Tra Thomas has a foot strain, Reggie Brown has a strained groin and J.R. Reed has ankle and hamstring strains. Brian Westbrook is “making progress” with his injured ribs and Kevin Curtis also is improving with his sports hernia. Curtis has not played this season.
Reid indicated most of the injured players other than Andrews should be ready to play after the bye week.
The Eagles head into the bye at 3-3 and host Atlanta on Oct. 26. The Birds are 9-0 in the game after the bye under Reid. Reid has given the team off until next Monday.
“We need to establish more consistency on both sides of the football and also the special teams,” Reid said. “ Try to eliminate some of the highs and lows here … You have to find a way to keep away from the lows that we have had -- doing a better job in the red zone offensively is a factor, be more consistent on the defensive side with stopping the run.”
Asked if the Eagles might do anything in advane of tomorrow's NFL trading deadline, Reid said: "We’re keeping our eyes open on some things. We’ll see how things work out here. We’re looking and communicating on a couple of things." He declined to mention any specific positions.
Apparently we're not the only ones to get bit by the injury bug. Romo out up to 4 weeks with broken bone in throwing hand. K,M

Rosenhouse just pulled his wallet... DeTom
Anybody heard if the thing about Romo is true? First I've seen is from K,M. Don't be teasing an old guy like that if it ain't true man.....wouldn't that be neat, their line trying to protect a regular-type QB instead of the slippery Romo? TBear

Comment removed.- Once again, I think his back injury is just a smokescreen for his depression treatment. Nova
- If I were the Eagles, I would just shut Andrews down for the season to get everything right (body and mind). Maybe someday, professional football players will realize that missing camp via holdout just kills your entire season. Sure this was a different circumstance but it kinda went the route I thought it would. rvb2321
Its about time. Cowboys haven't been hit by the injury bug in about ten years. WCPhan
The depression was a smokescreen for not wanting to work two-a-days...weak. traugdog420
Nova, maybe he's depressed...because he's injured? Fuzzy Dunlop
now Felix jones is hurt...www.bleedeaglesgreen.com njeagles
Andy, why would you want to "eliminate the highs?" Just eliminate the lows. I think people enjoy the highs. rwright611
Give Andrews a pacifier and a baby rattle, he'll be all better. wildebill
If Andrews ends up on IR.......somewhere Scott Young has the last laugh. Cant Climb
Just floating a trade idea...Lito Shepard & LJ Smith to the Chiefs for Tony Gonzalez. That would solve some of the Eagles problems with unhappy/unproductive players, and give them an All Pro TE who can catch AND block, and wants a chance for a ring. Thoughts?? JoePAVA
I heard Tony Gonzales might be on the block...just a thought. Buddha532

shabba also agree except for Booker.McNabb the Mike Schmidt of this generation.Ryan Howard has that potential also.Mike was great fielder who would go 1-18 in NLCS.Until Rose came on team in 1980 we never won .Rose carried us thru playoffs then Schmidt MVP of world series.Howard has great stats also and now 2 years in a row he has disappeared. The crowd will be split soon if he doesn't start looking like a hitter. I never have liked Reid or most Eagle head coaches though did enjoy Buddy Ryan and Bounty Bowl era.Reid calling plays still or Morningstar why can't Donnie after all these years?Buckhalter deserves more time somewhere.Lito needs to go.McNabb hands ball off too slow, and play fake the run useless.Jimmy Johnson deserves better lawrence2465- TO's feelings have been listed as hurt, as well(Sarge Matthews).
Matt Ryan.... Coming to EXTON/West Chester! Philly-d-kidder
Don't you just love the BS Reid feeds the media and fans regarding his psychological approach to managing his team. The highs and lows baloney is pathetic. If you don't have anything better to say, Andy then just give us you're standby " I don't want to get into that." walt1
