Eagles cut safety Page, promote Hall

POSTED: Wednesday, November 16, 2011, 12:11 PM

The Eagles have released safety Jarrad Page and called up wide receiver/kick returner Chad Hall from the practice squad.

The team is concerned about the hamstring and shoulder injuries to Jeremy Maclin, leading to the need for another receiver.

The Eagles said Page was not cut because he was in the same New York nightclub as New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz when a 44-year-old man was shot and killed and two others were injured.

The Giants said Cruz was there but was unharmed and not involved in the incident.

"He's a good kid," Reid said of Page.

Page, signed as a free agent in the offseason from the Patriots, was third on the team in tackles with 37. Page had started five of the six games he played in this season.

Coach Andy Reid said that Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman will be the starting safeties against the Giants.

According to the New York Times, Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, safety Antrel Rolle and cornerback Aaron Ross were also at the club, although Nicks' agent denied to The Times that Nicks was present.

"Only one I heard about initially was Victor," coach Tom Coughlin said. "Thank God he was safe. I'll speak to him as a parent who speaks to their son. I don't know what happens good at 2:30, 3 in the morning. I've never been able to figure that out."

Coughlin said he'd speak to the other players who were at the Juliet Supper Club, a popular club in New York.

Players were not violating any team rules. Tuesday is the mandatory day off in their weekly schedules.

Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg when he carried a gun into a nightclub in 2008, eventually leading to a prison term and the team releasing Burress. Coughlin said Tuesday's incident did not give him flashbacks to 2008.

I like the 5'6" 150lb receiver! It goes well with the 6'0" 275lb offensive lineman and the 5'10" 240lb defensive end....At least their consistant and stick to the plan.

Jeff Lurie needs to clean house, but he will not.He will not because Andy Reid has made him a ton of money in his good years leading the team. Also, he might be concerned about the replacement that comes in.Now he is displaying a little loyalty to the man that made him millions of dollars. It is very ironic that Andy showed little loyalty to the many players who came through here.Jeff I think will realize that Andy has just lost it by the moves he has been making the last few years. The coaches, the free agents, clock management, but most importantly the draft.Andy has done terrible in so many areas that Lurie should not miss the message.

Servo... You got me on that one... Im waiting too.... This Eagles team is soft... Small linebackers.. Can we trade DRC back to the Cardinals and get Bradley? Just a suggestion... Why Reid cant run the ball is unknown to me.... Shady is the leading rusher in the NFC... No brainer....

I thought that Paige being 3rd on the team in tackles was a joke of some sort, but I checked out the stats and it's actually true. COLEMAN is second on the team, also beyond comprehension.

I think they're sending a message to Steve Smith and Riley Cooper with the Chad Hall move, which they should. Now if they benched DRC and put in Hanson, a guy who actually gives some effort, that might send a stronger signal.

Wait, another 5'8 180 lb wide receiver? Who does the drafting for this team?

the last two drafts run by howie the accountant have absolutely crippled this team. of course, he'll be getting an extension anyday now.

Well PhillyFanSouth, Maclin is hurt so he's doubtful for Sunday's game so the Eagles brought up a WR. Do you blame them with DeSean obviously not giving it his all and Smith taking a dive, might as well give Chad Hall a chance and see what he has. Cutting Page is a no brainer.

Maybe Hall will catch what comes to him. Although I don't really see the point of making these moves. It's the dfense that needs the most help, unless you factor in the offensive line.

the fact that Page is still third on the team in tackles being he barely played much the past few weeks and missed tons of tackles speaks to the inept play this team is getting at the LB position. it also does not speak very highly of the play the team is getting on the defensive line particularly from Patterson and Jenkins.
