Eagles-Titans report card

POSTED: Sunday, October 24, 2010, 6:10 PM

Here are our grades for the Eagles-Atlanta game. You can make your grade by clicking here. We will publish the reader report card in the Tuesday Daily News.

RUSHING OFFENSE: For the first time since Week 1, LeSean McCoy was held to fewer than 50 rushing yards. He had just 48 yards on 16 carries vs. Titans. The turning point in the game came on a botched third-quarter run play at the Tennessee 3-yard line when Titans DT Jason Jones broke through the Eagles’ line and forced a fumble by Kevin Kolb as he was trying to hand the ball off to McCoy.

Grade: D

PASSING OFFENSE: After two superb performances vs. 49ers and Falcons, Kevin Kolb came back to earth. He missed on a number of downfield throws and completed just 54.2 percent of his passes, threw two interceptions and averaged just 4.8 yards per attempt. While Kolb was only sacked once, his protection was as erratic as many of his throws.

Grade: D

RUN DEFENSE: The Eagles failed to do a lot of things yesterday, but neutralizing dangerous Chris Johnson wasn’t one of them. Johnson, who had rushed for 100-plus yards in four of the Titans’ previous five games, was held to 66 yards on 24 carries. He had just 22 yards on 15 carries in the second half.

Grade: A-plus

PASS DEFENSE: The Titans have one receiver the Eagles had to stop – Kenny Britt – and they failed miserably. Britt had a field day against the Eagles’ secondary, catching seven passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles’ pass rush, which sacked Kerry Collins three times in the first half, disappeared in the second half as Collins completed 11 of 17 passes for 214 yards in the final two quarters.

Grade: F

SPECIAL TEAMS: David Akers had a solid day, making all four of his FG attempts and notching five touchbacks on kickoffs. Return man Jorrick Calvin had a 41-yard kickoff return that kick-started a scoring drive, but also fumbled away a punt that gift-wrapped a late field goal for the Titans. Sav Rocca averaged 48.4 yards on five punts.

Grade: B

OVERALL: The Eagles had a golden opportunity to go into the bye with a 5-2 record and blew it. It all started to unravel with that third-quarter fumble. Kenny Britt’s ability to make the Eagles’ secondary look like the Keystone Kops is something Sean McDermott is going to have fix going forward.

Grade: D

What a losing team the Eagles are! Just like the Phils are from last night. Now they have a bye and play the Colts who are one hard team.

the fumble by McCoy was the end of the game for the Eagles...they fell apart in all phases after that.

Stop blaming McDermott for this team's lack of talent. The coach has not put enough QUALITY playmakers in the secondary. When will someone in the Philly press corps stand-up and say all these draft picks for the defensive line at the expense of the linebackers and secondary? McDermott can only do so much with what he has to work with. A shut-down corner and a quality guard are this team's highest priorities in next year's draft. They were needs for this year's draft, but ignored by the coach.

McDermott can only play the hand he is dealt. He's young and still is learning, but net net, this is not his fault for the most part. Face it - the talent is not there in the defensive back 7. The LB corp is in the bottom 5 in the league (outside LBs may be the worst in the league). Ellis Hobbs is abysmal, but is our 2nd best corner...what's that tell you? Mikell is good on run support, but is average at best in passing situations over 10 yards (though he played well today). Nate Allen is a rookie. Samuel makes highlight plays, but doesn't always do what he's supposed to and can't tackle a lick. This is on Andy Reid / Roseman, etc. NOT Sean McDermott.

Even if you're right, How stupid can you be not to put your best CB on a receiver that is killing you pass after pass?

We should of had Riley Cooper at cornerback, did you see that guy play defense on Kolb's throw? Amazing. By the way, Kolb is a career backup, you can say he was under pressure all day long, but is that going to be your excuse everytime he plays a good defense? FYI, there are 3 good defenses in the NFC East alone. As long as Kolb is the starter for this team we might as well be starting 0-6 each year.
