Eagles Try to Match Jets' Generosity

Updated: The Eagles scored the first 28 points, 21 of them off Jets turnovers, then the Jets scored the next 13, 10 of them thanks to a couple of Eagles fumbles, including LeSean McCoy's first giveaway of the season. It was 28-13 at halftime.

The Eagles cashed in on a Mark Sanchez fumble with a McCoy Td run, 9 yards up the middle, giving him 15 rushing touchdowns and 18 overall this season, tying Steve Van Buren's records in each category, set in 1945. It was 28-0 and the Jets looked dead.

But the Jets drove for a 39-yard Nick Folk field goal, and quickly cashed in when Dion Lewis fumbled away the ensuing kickoff.

The Birds' defense might have averted a more complete collapse by holding the Jets to a field goal after McCoy's fumble was returned 33 yards, to the Eagles' 27, by Brodney Pool.

Earlier: The Eagles entered the second quarter leading the New York Jets 14-0, and quickly made it 21-0, the Birds perhaps buoyed by the Giants' shocking loss to the Redskiins, which would keep the Eagles alive at least another week for the NFC East title, should they win today.

Juqua Parker got the first touchdown on a 47-yard return of a Santonio Holmes fumble. Then, after a bad bounce on a punt hit Curtis Marsh in the shoulder, giving the Jets the ball at the Birds' 14, for the second week in a row, the Eagles got it right back. last week it was Jason Babin's sack and Mike Patterson's fumble recovery that redeemed a Marsh miscue. This time, a Matt Sanchez pass went off the hands of Holmes straight to Asante Samuel. The Eagles then drove 77 yards in seven plays, Brent Celek making a fine catch and rumbling into the end zone.

Then the Eagles drove 57 yards, plus a critical roughing the passer penalty, and took a 21-0 lead on a Michael Vick 11 yard-scramble. It was Vick's first rushing touchdown of the season.

Plaxico Burress has not been a factor early. Jason Babin has sacked Sanchez twice, giving Babin 17 this season.
