Domo's Eagles-Cardinals report card

Here are Domo's grades for today's Eagles loss to Arizona. You can make your grades by clicking here.

RUSHING OFFENSE

You would think the absence of DeSean Jackson would encourage Andy Reid to run the ball more, not less. But LeSean McCoy’s 14 carries were his fewest since he had 11 in the Eagles’ Week 5 loss to the Bills. McCoy averaged 5.8 yards per carry, had three runs of 13 yards or more and notched his 10th rushing TD, making the 14 carries even more curious.

Grade: B-plus

PASSING OFFENSE

With or without DeSean Jackson, there’s no excuse for the awful game Michael Vick had. Vick completed just 16 of 34 passes, averaged just 3.8 yards per attempt, overthrew wide-open receivers and threw two more interceptions, including his fourth of the year in the red zone. A third was overturned by a replay challenge. The Eagles’ four wideouts combined for eight catches for 55 yards.

Grade: F

RUN DEFENSE

The Eagles containted one-legged Beanie Wells, holding him to 2.7 yards per carry on 23 attempts. But Wells did have 12- and 6-yard carries on the Cardinals’ second TD drive. And they got burned for 12 yards by wide receiver Andre Roberts on a second-quarter end-around in the red zone that set up Arizona’s first touchdown.

Grade: B

PASS DEFENSE

A secondary that includes two of the game’s best cornerbacks — Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel — allowed Larry Fitzgerald to run wild in the fourth quarter, catching five passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. John Skelton threw three touchdown passes against them. I repeat, John Skelton threw three touchdown passes against them.

Grade: F

SPECIAL TEAMS

Eagles did an excellent job of containing dangerous Patrick Peterson on punt returns. He averaged just 4.5 yards on six returns. P Chas Henry had his best game of the season, averaging 42.8 yards per attempt and putting four punts inside the 20. Alex Henery booted a 36-yard, fourth-quarter field goal that briefly gave the Eagles the lead. Without DeSean Jackson, Eagles got little out of their return game. Not that they were getting much out of it with him.

Grade: B

OVERALL

Michael Vick played lousy and you can’t blame it all on the absence of DeSean Jackson. Two more interceptions, one more in the red zone. Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo has done some questionable things this season, but not putting Nnamdi Asomugha on Larry Fitzgerald from the opening kickoff to the closing whistle tops the cake. Jaiquawn Jarrett on Fitzgerald? Seriously?

Grade: F

Eagles looked great this week. With the roll the Eagles are on we just might win the Super Bowl again this year. Looks like Andy's going to run out of fingers with all these super bowl trophies he's collecting.

Word out of the Bay Area is that David Akers desperately wants to return to Philly!

He's tired of cable cars, sourdough bread ... and winning.

It's funny how Akers was let go for "inconsistency"? He's only 5 for 5 in FG attempts over 50 yards. San Fran is calling him a machine. And we let him go.

McCoy averaged 2 yards more per carry than Vick did per pass attempt so of course don't give him the ball anymore!

I agree that the play where Steve Smith lay down was emblematic of this team and this season. I have watched a lot of professional football, and I've seen a lot of alligator arms and "for who, for what" moments, but I don't think I've ever seen anything as blatantly chicken-livered as what Smith did on that play. I gasped out loud watching it.

What was Smith thinking? He just decided "I'm going to lay down here. I'm done running."

I am not renewing my tickets if Reid comes back. I hate Lurie's ownership, all talk no Superbowl. A losing home record going back to last year is inexcusable. The Phillies are going to get my $$$. There is competition for sports dollars, Jeff.
