Eagles Burn Through Another PR Person

The Eagles have dismissed their corporate public relations spokesman, Rob Zeiger, less than two years into his tenure.
I'm told the departure has nothing to do with any public issue surrounding the team. The corporate PR post with the Eagles has a troubled history, with several people coming and going over the last half-decade. The team has an entire department devoted to football media services, separate from the corporate spokesman. Traditionally, the corporate spokesman was a media liasion for former team president Joe Banner, who hired Zeiger away from the Amway Corporation in 2011.
With Banner gone, it isn't clear the Eagles need a corporate spokesman. New team president Don Smolenski is less involved in football personnel matters than Banner was, and has a lower profile. Team chairman Jeffrey Lurie rarely speaks with reporters.
I get it. The play on the field was not the problem, it was the public relations department not spinning it correctly. Hopefully with a new team in place, we can stop worrying about the losing streak and feel good about the team again. lostInPhilly
front office people getting fired, players quitting, whats next franknbeans
The PR suit needed to do a better job of putting his PR staff in position to be successful. Time's yours. ANDY-IS-FAT
he will have a job in cleveland allycat1968
I am ready and willing to take on the position. Call me maybe. fammarlin
Mikey Miss had a great rant today. He was not on board with the few Andy supporters that have been saying that you can't fire Andy, especially now during Thanksgiving. Well how do the people feel now that Lurie comes out and fires the PR guy 2 days before Thanksgiving. Whats he make a year, compared to Andy's 5mill guarantee this year and next. Show compassion for Andy? How about the PR guy that Lurie kicked to the curb during the holidays. watsonmr
I've been calling for this guy's head for several weeks now, whoever he is. Finally glad to see Jeffie L. has a set of balls.....even if they are the size of marbles. Wilhelm Von Humboldt
Andy could have put him in a better position... It was fixable... poor Rob. Fred B.
The best PR move is winning a championship.
What a dope... Atomic Fury
No need for a spokesman? Zeiger just spoke on WIP last week. Was there no need for that? Lurie is going to afford Reid the "dignity" to finish out this season but Lurie fires this no name right before the holidays with no notice in mid-season because Lurie just figured out the job serves no purpose? Yeah, that makes sense. dglass1- Just another billionaire firing people who can least afford to be fired while keeping the problematic folks with high salaries with a job.
Way to step up, Jeffrey. Fire the PR guy when your GM and head coach are the joke of the NFL.
It's been nearly a decade since this team was worth watching. It's been roughly a decade and a half since you bought this thing.
Your pal Joe Banner left you. Your wife left you. You've got a dog killer as the face of the franchise and dead bodies, syringes and needles in your dorms.
Isn't the whole point of being rich so that if you're too dense to figure something out yourself, you hire somebody who can? dasher- If Lurie reads this post I think we'll need to keep him away from ropes, window ledges, revolvers, pills or anything else he might use to end his misery.
Loony Lurie strikes again! Next week he is going to fire the head of the cheerleaders. Larry Byrd
Zeiger came up with the "8 and 8 isn't good enough" line for Jeffrey. Now he's paying the price! wmichael
Gotta do a better job! mrrockafeller
Why would the all-hype, all-talk Eagles need a PR person? The team's players, coaches and front office people do a fine job of conveying the delusion that runs rampant at Novacare to the public. Jeffy was flushing money down the toilet. hunglikeaton
Man, that Lurie is one tough S.O.B. I wouldn't want to do anything wrong working for him. He's got big ones, doesn't he? Ballgame
Is he the guy piping in applause over the PA to cover up the booing and 'fire Andy' chants? If so, good riddance. This team from top to bottom has become yet another embarassment to the city. JohnnyL
An unimportant position....Come on Jeffery fire the man responsible for this debacle...Andy Reid....and then fire the mailboy, valet and accountant Howie Roseman....He is not a football guy and his background is such that he has no true ties to football people.... nuggett
Uh-oh, the team diaper-changer might be next. Atomic Fury
Man I hated this guy, so glad he's gone.
woohoo
-not bob levy remyy
Eagles are probably full of BS when they say it has nothing to do with an issue surrounding the team. The guy probably became the umpteenth PR guy that told Silver Spoon Pansy something other than what he wanted to hear, and it was adios. drbob1
Again they fired the wrong person! Anyone remember Castillo? Should have fired Roseman and the FAT MAN! oneway
Clearly, he was responsible for the poor play this year. Had he issued press releases that referred to the Gold Standard, Howie Roseman's great draft record and Andy reid's genius on game day, he would still be employed. No more "fire Rob" chants and signs at the games. jimmymack
