Domo's Draft Report Card

POSTED: Sunday, April 25, 2010, 3:31 PM

Here are our grades for the Eagles and the NFC teams in the draft:

Eagles
1 (13) Brandon Graham, de, Michigan.
2 (37) Nate Allen, db, South Florida.
2 (86) Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, de, Washington.
4 (105) Trevard Lindley, db, Kentucky.
4 (121) Keenan Clayton, lb, Oklahoma.
4 (122) Mike Kafka, qb, Northwestern.
4 (125) Clay Harbor, te, Missouri State.
5 (134) Ricky Sapp, de, Clemson.
5 (159) Riley Cooper, wr, Florida.
6 (200) Charles Scott, rb, LSU.
7 (220) Jamar Chaney, lb, Mississippi State.
7 (243) Jeff Owens, dt, Georgia.
7 (244) Kurt Coleman, db, Ohio State.

Domo’s Take: Graham and Allen should help a defense that gave up 27 TD passes last season. Added more speed at LB, but didn’t get a corner until the fourth round. Grade: A-minus

Cowboys
1 (24) Dez Bryant, wr, Oklahoma State.
2 (55) Sean Lee, lb, Penn State.
4 (126) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, db, Indiana, Pa.
6 (179) Sam Young, ot, Notre Dame.
6 (196) Jamar Wall, db, Texas Tech.
7 (234) Sean Lissemore, dt, William & Mary.

Domo’s take: I love most of their picks, including Bryant, Lee and Owusu-Ansah. But they’d better hope Doug Free can protect Tony Romo’s blindside, because they didn’t draft an OT until the sixth round. Grade: A-minus

Giants
1 (15) Jason Pierre-Paul, de, South Florida.
2 (46) Linval Joseph, dt, East Carolina.
3 (76) Chad Jones, db, LSU.
4 (115) Phillip Dillard, lb, Nebraska.
5 (147) Nick Petrus, g, Arkansas.
6 (184) Adrian Tracy, lb, William & Mary.
7 (221) Matt Dodge, p, East Carolina.

Domo’s Take: Giants would have loved to have gotten MLB Rolando McClain, but settled for boom-or-bust pass-rusher Pierre-Paul. Still managed to get a starting MIKE candidate in the fourth round with Dillard.  Grade: B-plus

Redskins
1 (4) Trent Williams, ot, Oklahoma.
4 (103) Perry Riley, lb, LSU.
6 (174) Dennis Morris, te, Louisiana Tech.
7 (219) Terrence Austin, wr, UCLA.
7 (229) Erik Cook, c, New Mexico.
7 (231) Selvish Capers, ot, West Virginia.

Domo’s Take: Redskins addressed their LT need with Williams. But Russell Okung probably would’ve been more Day 1-ready to protect Donovan McNabb’s blindside than Williams. Grade: B

Paul SoTX outside of Trent Cole name one player Reid drafted that was a flat out stud on defense? Like I said these they were all overachievers and when they went head to head with "real" talent their ability caught up with them. Andy is a good coach but he likes to fill his team with cheap overachieving labor year in and year out regardless of how close they are to winning the Super Bowl.

This team could have had Moss and Jared Allen in their prime for a 4th and a 2nd round pick respectfully but they were cheap and wanted to draft in the middle rounds and take a chance on cheap players. If this team was really" petal to the metal" they would have used their 1st round picks to draft impact players instead of trading out year in and year out then using their picks to make lateral movements i.e. Jason Peters for Tre Thomas.

Hey Domo, you are taking the same kool-aid that Rosman drinks. No ifs ands of but, My grade is a "D". Roseman had 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, had 5 holes to fill and came away with 1.5 starters followed by a bunch of mediocrity. The Eagles should have gotten at least 3 blue-chip players, and did not. They did not need to trade up, graham would have been there at 24 and 37. But the center/guard they desperately need wasn't, the best cornerbacks were gone, and why draft another TE (with DT available) when Andy uses only 1-TE 99% of the offenseive sets. Plus you alreeady had 4 TEs on your roster.! Did Roseman really have to use a pick on a 5th TE. Are you kiddin me? F may be too harsh, but a D grade is spot on. DOMO, stop drinking the kool-aid.

You've quelled my fears a bit, Domo. Like you and everyone else in the know has said, we won't see or know anything until the cleats and pads hit the tuft :-)

I laugh every year how the Philly sport writers fawn over the new class of Eagle draftees, and tell us how good they are. This class is worth an A-minus, really!!! The Eagles pick up two impact players that has so many holes to fill. The back seven positions on defense has not been improved; the weakest link of the team. Their first pick will be a rotation guy, not an every down impact player. The safety will be the largest benefit because the team was beaten over the top too many times last year. However, both corner positions are still weak cover corners, and the depth at corner is weaker now than anytime in the Andy Reid coaching era. Asante can intercept the ball, but gets beaten over the top at least as many times he makes a good play, and does someone think Ellis Hobbs is the answer? Wow!!?!! The Eagles still don't have a linebacker who can stop the run for little or no gain, or who can consistently cover a running back or tight-end. The front office keeps trying to improve the the defensive front, but you can only play four at a time. Again, not enough quality playmakers in the back seven on defense means this team takes a step backwards record-wise. An A-minus??? Too much buffett at the Eagles complex for Domo.

What happened to all the people who were jumping off the bridge and slamming the Eagles' draft after the first 2 days? Now I don't see anyone disagreeing with Domo that they get an A- ?

lerze77 everybody gets an A on these draft grades. All 32 teams received an A simply because none of us can accurately predict the future. They keep pumping up Cleveland draft and San Fran's draft but what have they won? Besides paying Pro Bowl money to a bunch of maybe's.

To 'nothing but the truth'. The Eagles blew the chance to get a cornerback and Florida Pouncy a center/guard. Instead they got a undersized DE who won;t play all downs, a corner back thay nobody heard of, a TE in the 4th round they already have 4 on the roster and only use 1 99% of the time, (they wasted that opportunity not getting a DT or OL). Finally, alot of names that nobody wanted until the 5th and 6th rounds. Great analysis on your part.

Cole, McNabb, Westbrook, Mickell, Brown, Sheppard, Bradley, Celek, Jackson, Macklin, none of these guys were/are any good? All were picked by Reid and Co. I think the Eagles should run the ball more, but that's nitpicking. Andy's teams make the playoffs almost every year. It's usually the defense that blows it in the big games, like the Conference Championship game against the Cards two years ago, or how they got carved up in the second half of the one Super Bowl they did make. They took a bunch of defensive players and have traded for several more in this off season. I expect that with the return of the injured starters from last season, and the additions since last season, this team will give up less points than they did last year. Nobody really knows for sure who can play NFL football based on a college career. That's right, the whole thing is a crapshoot. I am looking forward to seeing what they can do now and I am glad they made wholesale changes. After the two Dallas games you better believe this was the only way eid was keepinghis job. If they allow what happened to happen again against Dallas this season, Reid has to be fired, and he knows it.

The drafts of all pro sports are littered with big money high draft pick flops. Don't underestimate the talent that resides in the lower rounds. Why don't we see more articles that evaluate draft picks from two, three or four years ago? I would like to see the track records of some the ESPN 'experts'.

I looked at the Cowboys picks and I said, "oh man, they got 3 good players in the first 3 rounds." They have drafted really well the last several years, and I think this years draft will follow suit.
