Paul Domowitch's Eagles-Giants report card

Here is Daily News columnist Paul Domowitch's report card from the Eagles' 29-16 loss to the Giants in the home-opener. Click here to send in your own grades.

RUSHING OFFENSE: The Eagles ran the ball 40 times and rushed for 177 yards, including 128 by LeSean McCoy. But their short-yardage offense was putrid. They failed to punch it in on two separate goal line situations from the 2 and the 3, and McCoy got dumped for a 3-yard loss when Andy Reid went for it on a fourth-and-1 at the Giants’ 44 early in the fourth quarter.

Grade: C-minus

PASSING OFFENSE: Mike Vick had a a first-possession interception that clanged off Steve Smith's hands. Mike Kafka threw two picks, including one into double coverage that never should have been thrown. Kafka and Vick completed just 4-for-8 third-down passes. For the second straight week, DeSean Jackson had just two quiet catches.

Grade: D

RUN DEFENSE: The game of musical chairs that Juan Castillo played with his linebackers last week didn't really make much of a difference. While the Giants' final rushing numbers - 102 yards on 25 carries - aren't awful, they're also a bit misleading. Giants averaged 7.1 yards per carry in the first three quarters, including a 37-yarder by Ahmad Bradshaw.

Grade: C-minus

PASS DEFENSE: For the second straight week, the Eagles gave up four touchdown passes, this time to a team whose wide-receiver corps qualifies for federal aid. Kurt Coleman had not one, but two missed tackles on Brandon Jacobs' 40-yard TD catch and run, and Nnamdi Asomugha got beat for a score by Victor Cruz. Eagles are on pace to give up, gulp, 43 touchdown passes this season.

Grade: F

SPECIAL TEAMS: Jason Babin's fourth-quarter brain fart when he got called for encroachment on a Giants' field-goal attempt, opened the door for Eli Manning's game-clinching TD pass to Bradshaw. Alex Henery made all three of his field-goal attempts and had three touchbacks on four kickoffs.

Grade: C

OVERALL: Andy Reid's and Marty Mornhinweg's goal-line play-calling left a lot to be desired. Giving the ball twice to Owen Schmitt rather than McCoy or Ronnie Brown? Those two lame pass-play calls inside the 3 after running the ball on nine of the previous 10 plays? Then there's a defense that continues to give up big run plays, can't tackle and gave up four touchdown passes for the second straight week. There's a lot of blame to go around for this disgraceful loss.

Grade: F

Andy Reid is one of the best quarterback coaches in the last 30 years. Unfortunately for us, he's been our head coach for the last 13 of those. I agree with emilytod in that we probably will see one of those unexpected winning streaks and make the playoffs. But does anybody see us actually beating anyone once we get there? As I've said before, they don't throw parades for 10-win seasons and that's about the level that Andy Reid has mastered. If we want more than that, it's time (indeed, it's BEEN time for at least the last 5 years) to send him packing.

I've watched the game three times so far and here is what i've seen SS Kurt Coleman no top end speed to run down a stroller and he can't tackle on top pf that double whammy .FS Jared Page can't cover a baby in a Basinet and any tight end will have him for lunch all the safeties are horrible with the exception of jarrett who should be starting anyway. I said this yesterday and i watched the b.s again goaline situation no mccoy or brown we unveil owen schmitt our secret weapon who knew the second coming of mike alstott the defense was bad we all seen the game but the arrogant play calling on the goal-line is the same damn problem too often and juan castillo blows big time he is lost and has no clue on how to adjust you never blitz when u can get your front four there anytime which was the case today and did anybody notice the offense attacked matthews were ever he was lined up they went after him. too many issues we will get through even with all that said

This is the bottom line combined with the weakest NFC in decades when he won. No more. Exposed. Over rated, overwhelmed. Has to go. Will go. I think her will step down.

A mediocre 49ers team and Vince Young's experience and physical tools will even the Birds' record next week.

However, this defense, projected over the season, will likely lead to a 7-9 record. Very disheartening. Hope I'm wrong. We'll see ...

This is pathetic how EVERYONE below here goes out of their way to talk all this mess about the Eagles. I bet none of you are fans and have nothing else better to do than to make stupid comments about Mike Vick and his past, how the Eagles suck. Blah Blah Blah. Read for yourself! Every single one of you can sit there and criticize all you want cuz that's what HATERS do. They HATE! Its ok. Yall can jump back on this team's nuts once we bounce back from these losses. Mind you, ITS ONLY WEEK 3 you IGNORANT folk! Oh just cuz u play Madden doesnt mean you play REAL football. Quit Criticizing. Quit Hating. Hold your negativity cuz no one wants to hear it!

The truth is McNabb has been covering for Reids poor decisions for years. Now that McNabb is gone, what do we have. Poor play calling, delay of games penelties, injured players, project after project players, and two quarter backs that are less superior then McNabb was in his last year here. (wahtch and see) When Andy first came here or O line was very bad. Remember, Cunninghams last years? Reid as mister offensive lineman coached, was brought in and fixed that problem. He drafted MCnabb who performed magic bying time by running and Westbrook carried the offense and specail teams. Dawkins did what assisted the corners and played linebacker and safety. Now Trick Daddy Reid has no more rabbits on the feild and is totally exposed. Also, the many, many feel good stories, like the skier, drafted injured player, now the fire fighter and poor Castillo! This should have been the feel good story after 06. Lurie, moving Reid to Offensive line Coach. Big Daddy Lurie should pull that Trick! (HTML deleted)
