Do the Eagles need to consider drafting a QB?

So, the question before us is do the Eagles need to consider selecting a quarterback in the first round of the draft next spring?
Absolutely. I know what you’re thinking right now. They need help at linebacker and safety. And if they do indeed get rid of DeSean Jackson, they also are going to need to find another wide receiver.
But the Eagles need to think now about life after Michael Vick. And they need to think about when life after Vick will begin. He’s going to be 32 next June. They’re really only financially committed to him for one more season. For all intents and purposes, he really signed just a two-year commitment. He received $20 million this season and is guaranteed $12.5 million more next year and another $3 million in 2013. If they got rid of him after next season, they would only take a $4.2 million cap hit in ’13 and a $2.8 million hit in ’14.
He’s been everything you worried about when they signed him last summer. Inconsistent. Has turned the ball over too many times. Hasn’t been able to stay healthy.
Assuming juniors such as USC’s Matt Barkley and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III and Oklahoma’s Landry Jones come out along with Andrew Luck, there are going to be some very good quarterbacks available at the top of the draft. Regardless of how the rest of this season plays out, the Eagles likely will have the wherewithal to trade up and get one of them. And if they continue to play like they did Thursday night, they might not have to trade up at all.
But they already have an extra second round pick from the Kevin Kolb trade with Arizona. If they trade Jackson as well as one of their cornerbacks, they will have even more picks to use to position themselves to get one of the draft’s top quarterbacks.

- A top tier quarterback who can't stay on the field and a quarterback who can't start in front of gimp-armed Young? The Tonner wonders what color is the sky in PhillyExpat's world? All due respect of course.
Trade DeSean and Samuel and you could get Barkley and one of the top linebackers (Burflict or Manti) and draft a right tackle with arizonas 2nd. That would be a start DWills916
ha All you morons werent saying this about Vick last year at this time. Was that 10-6, Wildcard Loss to GB worth it for everybody? Should have stayed with Kolb, at least you Andy would be def fired, and you would have a top 10 pick. FABER
This is a quarterback driven league, The QB can change the whole team. In Denver the defense was not good until Tebow took over. Except for the Dallas game, Vick has given the opposing tyeam five of sixe extra drives a game. Even a good defense cannot over come that. Young came in and did the same thing. Why not play Kafka for the last four games and see if he is ready for the NFL and God yes, drsft a good quarterback, but don't let Andy pick one. mario1239
I am in for Barkley. He's a #2 compared to Luck, and I think two or three teams might go for him, but the Eagles need a leader and a passer. Sign and trade Desean if possible. He's a cancerous talent worth draft picks. Even if he nets only a #2 pick, it's better than just letting him go. pillsbury
The first thing they need to do is to take the drafting out of Andy's hands. First hire should ne director of personnel. If Andy cannot handle it, so be it. If Andy is okay, then he can stay. Then draft a qb, lb and safety. StorminNorman
Are there any college QB's that can also play defense and tackle? If so, that's the guy to target. PinkstonsStrengthCoach
Vick will be 32 years next season...and Vick is an awful 3-9 in his 12 Eagles starts....Vick is a lousy rent-a QB.....Draft a REAL NFL quarterback like Brady, Rodgers or Brees. frank105- Oh - I get it now, they should draft a future HOFer. Why didn't the think of that????
Bobphxville - Wow...how small is your football IQ? The first need you think about looking at this team is QB? Man...you are a dope! You have no LB's or Safties that can make a play on this roster. Please...understand the game or stop wasting our time with your ridiculous rants.

PSU_Chuck - Don't let frank105 fool ya, he's not concerned with the qb position, his true and only concern is Vick's contract. Any fool (including frank105) would know that Vick is the least of the problem for the Eagles.

They need an O-line who will prevent UNBBLOCKED pass rushers BEFORE their franchise QB is knocked out.
The hit Vick took against the UNBBLOCKED Cardinal pass rusher would have mutilated Cutler/Manning/Romo/Brady as well.
EVERY NFL team needs a solid 2nd QB these days. saunhi
