DeSean hopes to be 'an Eagle for my career'

POSTED: Friday, September 17, 2010, 8:31 AM

The talk surrounding DeSean Jackson's contract situation has died down with the start of the season, and other issues taking precedence.

Despite his presumed unhappiness, Jackson told fans last night that he is hopeful of a long tenure with the Eagles.

"I put in a lot of hard work and dedication in my team and my play and hope to be an Eagle for my career," Jackson wrote in a session in which he answered fans' questions on Twitter.

"I was so happy to be drafted by the Eagles and felt forturnate to be drafted by one of the good teams," he wrote in response to a followup question.

Some other comments:

Individual goal for the season: "As many TD's as possible."

Michael Vick: "I think Michael Vick will do good for us."

Leonard Weaver injury: "It hurts to have Weaver gone but we have a goal and that is to win games and get to the Super Bowl."

Special teams: " I love returning punts. Most definitley want to continue to do it."

Favorite team growing up: "My favorite team growing up was the Steelers because my parents were die hard steeler fans and from Pitt."

Why he wears No. 10: "In High School and College I was #1 and when I got into the League you cant have that number so I put a 0 at the end of it."

Jackson said he hopes to do another session with fans in the near future.

Injured fullback Leonard Weaver tweeted last night that he will have surgery Tuesday to repair his torn ACL. In a subsequent tweet, he confirmed to the Daily News that the surgery will be performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Earlier this week, Troy Aikman's reaction on Fox in the immediate aftermath of Stewart Bradley stumbling and falling to the ground following a concussion was often quoted. "It’s hard to imagine him coming back into the game with all the attention paid to head injuries.”

Of course, moments later, Bradley returned to the game for a few plays before being taken out for the rest of the day. Both Aikman and Joe Buck said they were surprised that Bradley returned.

In an interview with the New York Times yesterday, Aikman said he wanted to be cautious about weighing in on concussions and not play doctor. His own concussion history is well-documented, something he is reluctant to talk about.

“When I saw him staggering and unable to control his body, it was as tough as anything I’ve ever seen," Aikman told the Times. "Maybe I could have been stronger. But I felt I addressed it and the fans knew where I stood. I didn’t feel a need to showboat.”

He compared it to seeing Joe Theismann’s leg snapped by Lawrence Taylor in 1985.

    "The Market St. Dragons
Bill20 that is the stupidest statement I have ever read. Vick most likely wont throw for 300+ yards because he is going to run half of them. Football is a team sport. Vick can throw 200+ yards and run 100+ and score 2-3 TD's but if the defense does not show up to play and lets the Lions offense score and the Eagles lose, how would this in any way justify that Kolb is better than Vick? Think before you write."

He has posted the same exact thing in about 5 articles now so hes not thinking at all.

didn't we hear the "for my career" wish from #5? just like everyone else he will be hear till they decide if the cost/benefit equation is in their favor. and then they will let him go. the more money he wants the sooner his departure will occur

This nonsense about the Iggles being cheapskates is really starting to gnaw at me. Are the Patriots cheap? No more than we are. Are the Superbowl winning Saints cheap? No more than we are. This is the NFL people, and like any other damn business in this world, you want to receive value for money spent. The Iggles are just the same as every other team in the league when it comes to that aspect of the business. Enough already.

Yeah, he hopes to be an Eagle for life... IF THE MONEY IS RIGHT. While extremely talented and a great future ahead, don't mistake this one fact: DeSean is a money guy. Personally, I hope the Eagles pay him for now. But when the production slips and he doesn't want a pay cut, let 'em loose. Hopefully that won't be for a long time.

DJAx is waaay over valued. Where is his scrawny behind when it matters? McNabb made him and Celek look like studs. He looks great when he's able to get behind the defender and the ball is aired-out. The problem is KK is a rag arm, a Garcia clone of sorts...

Upcoming lockout or not, pay the guy. He's the best player on the team by far, and one of the most dangerous in the NFL. Those guys don't exactly fall off the tree.

I LOVE the moronic comments that Jackson shouldn't be concerned about the money. Huh? This is what he does for a living, and he has a short shelf life to get it done now, so get it while you can. Just don't hold the team hostage, and don't be in it just to be the highest paid receiver. Check the ego at the door.

Poor naive DeSean.....he better study the teams history....the minute your step is one second off and you have a big payday coming.....you're a goner. Should we send him a list of references than can school the poor boy?

He's gonna be looking for a new team at the end of the season anyway....when his new QB doesn't get him the catches he needs, he's gonna be shopping around for one who will........this is about money stats and a ring.....and the sooner you can brag about all three, the better.....
