DeSean Doesn't Dismiss QB Change

POSTED: Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 12:29 PM

Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson appeared on the NFL Network's "NFL AM" show Tuesday. Jackson was asked several questions about quarterback Michael Vick, and he didn't exactly rally to Vick's cause.

Asked about the possibility of change, Jackson said: "We are too good of a team to be on a three-game losing streak, so whatever it is we can do to get things rolling, that is what we are here to do."

Jackson was asked if a QB switch would help. "You never know until it happens," he said.

On what is different with Michael Vick lately, Jackson said: "I don't think he is as comfortable as he usually is."

That answer begged for followup. Did DJax mean the patchwork o-line is keeping Vick from getting comfortable? Or that the heat Vick has taken for turnovers has made him tentative? Or was he talking about something else entirely?

It'd be nice to know.

Asked about Andy Reid, Jackson was more openly supportive.

"This is a big year for us," he said. "There is no room to be struggling. I know coach Reid's back is against the wall. We just have to figure it out."

Jackson's answer to a question about how to improve the Eagles seemed ironic, after his "you never know until it happens" response to the QB change question.

"Everyone can't look at anyone else and question (them)," he said. "It has to start with each individual ... look at their mistakes and correct them."

The Eagles seem to have given up on the long strikes that are Jackson's forte. He has become a short-range target, expected to make his yards after the catch, which he did memorably on one play against Atlanta, gaining 32 yards, but has not been able to do consistently. Jackson has 34 catches for 524 yards through seven games.

On the same show, former Eagles QB Donovan McNabb said switching to Nick Foles would not help, that the Eagles "have more issues than just the quarterback position."

McNabb said it was important that Vick block out all the talk about his status and maintain his focus.

***

The weekly day-after Andy Reid news conference that was postponed Monday because of Hurricane Sandy was postponed again Tuesday. Presumably, Reid will speak Wednesday, and clear up the matter of who will quarterback the Eagles Monday night in New Orleans.

I bet Vick is not uncomfortable when he trots to the bank to deposit his millions of dollars. He should be charged with grand theft. Failure to produce what he is being paid to produce. Vick is dangerous; he thinks he is better than he is or ever was. Dumb people who think they are smart can be very dangerous. Vick is a fraud and always will be a fraud.

Reid is the reason nobody feels comfortable in midnight green. Andy has been a very good coach but every athlete/coach has a shelf life. McNabb had one and when he was let go it was obvious that the Eagles let him go right before the expire date arrived. Same is true for Reid. He might be able to resurrect another team somewhere else but his Phil. expire date is at hand. At this point he'll be useless as the confidence he exuded no longer shows. Players and fans see it. How do you work for a man you think will be replaced? Only the most professional can block that out and move on. Most let the uncertainty affect their role. Lurie needs to pull the plug gracefully so that the next guy understands he's not dealing with a knee jerk action owner. Lurie can place this org back on the right track but he's going to have to be honest and bring in someone to help with the hiring process, a consultant who is more savy than Roseman. He could even do this behind closed doors for all I care and let Roseman take credit. Need to look at what personnel remain here and what the makeup of the team is. Are they going to be better suited to run, play smash mouth D? For sure you scrap the wide 9 but is the personnel better suited for 4-3 or 3-4? Honestly Vick is not great but he certainly is not the reason this team is failing. There are many issues and no one or two fixes is going to change it. Close to a complete overhaul is needed. Love Andy but time to re wire this project and distance ourselves from what has been for the last 13+ years.

if foles does well we could use vick in the wild cat again have him out there as another running threat with an occasional long bomb pass they need to get creative man the offense isnt scoring any points.

What was DeSean's reaction to 'why did you avoid doing anything Sunday - like that Shady run to your side with about 5 minutes to go when you ole'd for your old buddy Asante and he stopped what should have been a touchdown that would have made it a 5 poin game?"

"It has to start with each individual ... look at their mistakes and correct them."

Bingo. Except you missed 'my mistakes' - not theirs, loser.

This team is all 'me me me' until it comes to accountability. Then it's 'just a couple of plays' (like every NFL game every week) or that one break (that - unbeknownst to these Eagles, you MAKE - not talk about and hope).

    just friggin pathetic.

Bob112, actually the Jags are last in points scored. Obviously Vick has flaws, he is slower and he's made too many mistakes. But you put Brady, Peyton or Eli behind the current sieve of an O-Line, and all would have been on Injured Reserve by now. Despite all the Foles fans, Vick is the best chance to win this year, How about better O-Line coaching, O-Line play and playcalling? Marty is a dunce.

Anyone who knows football understands that the play of the offensive line is the key to scoring points. The Eagles' O-line has been awful since about 2008. Wasn't that the last year Jon Runyan played?

I don't understand how a former O-lineman like Andy Reid has done such a terrible job drafting and developing players in this key area. Until the blocking improves, you need to play a mobile QB like Vick. Kolb or Foles would get killed behind this line.

Jackson should just shut up he has absolutely no credibility...isnt he the guy who took a season off last year and stole a paycheck...now he is worried about REID couldnt have cared less about Reid or the team last year...he is just another one of those "ME" athletes who whines when things dont go their way and blames others...and oh yeah how about throwing a block once before the season is over DJAX

I am not a Vick fan. But I have to admit the man is a warrior. The hits that he has taken this year are more than Macnabb took his whole carreer with the team. He has not complaned what so ever and he should. I am a Buddy fan I loved the team in those days. You know why? People were afraid to play us because they knew they were in for a fight. We were mean and it seemed all the players had an attitude. No one on the team is like that now, since Dawkins left.
The coach is stuburn in his ways he does not adopt to what he has but would rather play the only way he has over the years pass, pass, pass.
Well everyone is smarter now and know his tendencies there are no surprises and they are more than ready for our team. A good coach , coaches what he has and not coach only one way. Yes we could be much better this year if we ran a simple offense just like Washington. A few obesrvations: Is the right tackle playing hurt? He does not look like the player of years past? Are our genious defense and offense line coaches really any good? How come the special teams coach does not get fired? his unit is the worst of the bunch. And last and certainly not least I leave you with this thought. I take Rich Kottite as offensive cordinator over Morningwig any time,

les, deshean said the same thing when Kevin was here, jackson is part of the problem not part of the solution,he doesn't give 100% on every play he proved that last season,,a deadline package deal of conVick and jackson would help the character of this team ASAP,they both play for the stats they will never win a SB--BOOK IT.....wolf.

This town needs to stop tolerating an average football team. They talk a big game, but what do they have to show for it? This team in their last 26 games is 11-15. (This includes a playoff loss.)

How much talent and a sub-.500 team have on its roster?

Hey McNabb, RG111 seems to be playing okay for the Shanahans. Do you want to continue your diatrabe from last year on how bad they treated you.

The team has no discipline and that comes from the top down. They celebrate like they won the Super Bowl whenever they make even the most meaningless play on the field. Jackson's quote "...we're too good of a team to be on a 3-game losing streak" speaks volumes. McCoy made a similar comment last year....maybe if the team was disciplined and not delusional they would actually play as a team. Oh well, I really don't care since my Giants are on top of the division. GO NY!

While I've been an outspoken Vick critic on this site, I am starting to feel a little sympathy for him. When you take a step back, each week he's given a sub-standared gameplan that lacks creativity and balance. He's protection originates from a patchwork offensive line. And lastly he has below average weapons to throw to. If you watch the good passing teams, their QBs are consistently rewarded for making tight throws by BIG WRs that go up and get the ball away from DBs. When has that ever happened here. I can remember Riley Cooper doing it once last year. I saw Alex Smith throw a nice fade pattern for a TD pass last night to Michael Crabtree. Which one of our smurfish wide receivers would make that play for Mike? They are only good for 9 yard out patterns, bubble screens and fly patterns.

I still stand behind my assertion the Eagles should have taken Michael Floyd instead of Fletcher Cox. Floyd hasn't been productive yet but that's not uncommon for first year receivers. Plus he's in a bad offense - sans Larry Fitzgerald. Fletcher Cox has done nothing and is another in a long line of pedestrian d-lineman "fastballs" we have drafted.

Even before the O line injury's, Vick was stinking up the place that preseason injury made him shellshocked. Donot put Foles in that situation we donot need him to be lacking confidence before hecan get started. Let Edwards play and save Foles for another day.

DJAX---running his punk-arse mouth again...if I'm not mistaken he was also critical of the BEST QB in franchise history. What a too light in the britches punk. FOr th erecord I can't stand #7, but when you are a MARGINAL player like #10---hush up!

There's still a lot of football to play. A couple of wins and the Eagles are right back in it. A positive vib from media and fans would help.
