Dawkins in Denver

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009, 3:56 PM

Agent Jim Steiner has confirmed that free safety Brian Dawkins is visiting the Denver Broncos today. Dawkins, 35, is Philadelphia's longest-tenured pro athlete, and had been considered very likely to re-sign with the Eagles before free agency began at 12:01 Friday morning. That still might happen, but for now, Dawk is in Denver. Stay tuned.

Editor's note: Click here for an update on the addition of Bengals offensive tackle Stacy Andrews.

Blackacre -- it's not Andy -- it's Joe Banner. Lurie lets him be frugal, and this is what happens.

Geez, you guys are just full on info. Do you even know what the Eagles' offered Dawk. He's one of my all time favorites. But if he's demanding a big contract, let him walk. Loyalty? You're kidding, right? I don't see Dawk or Tre sweating over the idea of leaving the Eagles if they can make more money. And I don't hold it against them either. Love them both and hope they get what they want. Past history says that once a player starts checking out the market, they're gone. With very few exceptions, the Eagles have made the right decision.

ifarrell. That doesn't take a visit to Denver to determine. The Eagles front office is an absolute joke. Around $40 million under the cap enter free agency. They are only interested in making money, not winning a championship as well. Which is why they would never fire Andy Reid. Cause than they would have to pay him and another coach. I'm not saying spend until you are at the cap max, but come on, this team has some major areas of conerns which they could address if they reach into their pockets. Start with Brian Dawkins.

yo morvak go get a life, don't worry about how we feel. I am heartbroken over the THOUGHT of Dawkins leaving. Not only is he the heart and soul of our defense, he is the heart and soul of every true Eagles fan. So you can take your hatred and dumb comments as well as a bronco shoe and stick them up your you know what.

When you say all of those other football greats, you still think about the team that they were with the longest. Rice = SF, Smith = Dallas. The problem with those other great is that they just went to the other teams to die. It just wasn't the same. Dawk needs to be here.

ChekUrFax: How do you know Lurie is all about $$$? Did he tell you that? And wouldn't winning the Super Bowl result in a lot of money? How did the Eagles do before Lurie was the owner? That's a lot of questions so take your time.

That would be something that I could never let the front office live down. They would be getting letters from me for years. Even when Lurie is on his death bed in a retirement home, I'll find him and spit in his face, " Remember when you let Dawk go? Burn in hell, HAHAHAHAHA" SPITOOOOEY.

owumd, you are correct, those players did finish their careers elsewhere, but every one of those players and the teams they left were worse off for it. Not too mention that the D has no other leader ready to fill the void of his departure. This would be a disaster.
