Dawkins: Reid should be on hot seat

POSTED: Friday, June 1, 2012, 2:05 PM

The always introspective Brian Dawkins has had some interesting things to say following his retirement.

During a wide-ranging interview on NFL.com's "Cover 2" podcast, he talked about the number of hits he took in his career, Terrell Owens and his former coach Andy Reid.

Dawkins was asked whether Reid deserves to be on the hot seat.

"Yes, here's the thing," Dawkins said. "When you go out and you get some of the pieces that they got. That's telling the fan base something. Even coming into this year ... some of the things they're doing this offseason, that's telling the fan base something. You then have to show ... what are you as a coach."

The Eagles have had a positive offseason, taking care of their own players, bringing in DeMeco Ryans from Houston and adding Fletcher Cox in the draft.

"This is the year to me that says . . . If there was a chance for this team go far it should be this year. You should know your team, you should know who can do what," Dawkins said.

He should be, but he won't be. Andy Reid will coach the Eagles until he decides he doesn't want to coach the Eagles anymore.

Refreshing and frank comments from one of the Greatest Eagles Players. JJ is smiling from above. I love it... Wish he would join the Eagles coaching staff.

Should be askin Mike Vick, he is the leader and know more than Dawk. Now Dawk a good player but he need to keep his mouth shut bout Andy.

I think Dawk said everything everyone else is saying. Reid makes a deep playoff run or a spectacular regular season, he comes back as coach next year. If he makes the playoffs as a WC and loses first game, he is gone. I think this will be a NFC Championship or Super Bowl type of season.

ouch. where is all the "Andy is great" comments, or "I love Andy"...even Brian Dawkins, one of his biggest supporters for over a decade realizes Reid is a moron that will never win a Superbowl. Thats when you know things are bad.

Andy Reid may have some spectacular traits and may be a great individual. Unfortunately, he is a horrible day game manager and costs the Birds at leasts two games a year. These mistakes force the Eagles to miss playoff games or play WC games that should be avoided. This will not change in 2012 / 2013. That coupled with the fact the NFC is now so much harder to get to the SB. It will be another year of excuses.

wow Mighty One, thats brilliant. And the head coach forcing an innacurate QB to throw like 55 times to only 12 rushes resulting in 3 interceptions had nothing to do with it. Bellichek could only dream of such a genius gameplan...WHY DIDNT HE THINK OF THAT ? No, instead Bellichek ran it like 30 times and won another Superbowl. Weird. Also its not Dawkins fault that he was surrounded by crappy Linebackers on 99% of the plays run that season. Blame Dawkins lol....ANDY RIED WILL WIN HIS 5TH SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR. ITS ALL DAWKINS AND MCDERMONTS FAULT.

Remember the championship game against Carolina where David Akers had more tackles than B Dawk. His defense coughed up the lead against Arizona in a championship game and let New Orleans run the ball down their throat in the final minutes of a playoff game tom take the lead. He was a great leader but was kinda like #5 when it came to showing up at critical times,

I like Andy Reid, like him a lot as a person and a coach. He is NOT an idiot. He has some faults, as do I, most other coaches, and the Pope. Only CG25 is infallible. I am a little uneasy with Dawkins statements but I believe he is 100% accurate. I hope the Mighty one is at the game Sunday nite against the Giants. He can boo for Dawkins while 65,000 give their opinion. There just might be some tar boiling with feathers to follow for the Mighty One.

Hey Charlie (idiot) Dawkins was surrounded by a good LB corps at the end of the season. He had Trotter (Pro Bowler), Nate Wayne (solid contributor that year) Keith Adams (who again solid contributor), Ike Reese. The problem in the SB was the JJ ran some exotic schemes and for some odd reason they used Matt Ware. If you can remember Deon Branch went nuts. But then again, every time you put up a post, I realize I have forgotten more about the Eagles than you know.

Clearly Dawkins resents Reid for not matching the Broncos offer.

Dawk has every right to be a hater after they put him out with the trash, but he don't. His comments here have no bitterness, just truth. More class some of you wouldn't know anything about.
