Dawk Back in Town

Brian Dawkins has returned to the Philadelphia area for the first time since signing with Denver. In a Channel 10 interview, Dawk says he's ready to move on, but that if he makes the Hall of Fame, it will be as an Eagle.

Dawk Back in Town

POSTED: Monday, March 30, 2009, 11:37 AM

If anybody ever deserved a long goodbye, it's Brian Dawkins. So if you're sick of reading and hearing about Dawk'sDenver coach Josh McDaniels and Brian Dawkins departure, go read a Villanova Final Four blog or something.

The emotional leader of the Eagles' defense the past several seasons, and one of the top Eagles of all time, is back in town this week tying up some loose ends, after signing as a free agent with the Denver Broncos. Channel 10's John Clark caught up with BDawk at the airport (video below). In it, Dawkins says feeling he had to move on after 13 seasons "hurt pretty bad there for a while, and it still hurts today." Dawkins acknowledges, "I mourned, just like the rest of the fans did."

Dawkins emphasizes that he is ready to move on, and tells Clark the front office's decisions or ways of doing things are "not for me to discuss anymore."

Dawkins says he'll stop by NovaCare to say goodbye to his former teammates. When Clark asks about retiring as an Eagle or going into the Hall of Fame as an Eagle, Dawkins says that if he's lucky enough to make the Hall of Fame, going as an Eagle is "pretty much a certainty ... that'll be a celebration for us all."

Also, we forgot to link to this when it appeared, but better late than never -- bleedinggreennation has done us all the valuable service of compiling a whole bunch of mock draft predictions for the Eagles. They all have the same inherent problem, which is at this point, you have to assume the Birds will be making those two selections in the first round, 21st and 28th overall. In reality, they might very well trade one of them to move up, or trade one for another asset (Anquan Boldin, Jason Peters, whatever). I'd say odds are 50-50 or less that they'll really be picking 21st and 28th. But if they do, these are some interesting ideas.

see ya dawk. good job getting the broncos to pay you all that money. You have been a shell of yourself for the past 3 years, and are fading faster and faster. Bronco fans, have fun with this guy.

Dawk, you will be missed! You were the heart and soul of the team and the defense. Yes, football is a business at the bottom line, and you did what you had to do. When retirement comes as it will, the FO would be remiss not to give you a one day contract. Good luck and Godspeed.

Thanks, dood. Can't wait 'till you are wearing a head set and screaming at Hanson, Jack I. and Mikkel from the side-line!

B-Dawk always a class act. if history has taught us anything he'll be back in green in a year or 2 for a fare well tour - case in point Hugh Douglas & Jerimiah Trotter both got big deals to go elsewhere only for their new teams to find out they were way past their prime and both came back to philly in the end. Denver has made Dawk one of the highest paid safeties in the nfl, the franchise tag amount on safeties is $6.2 mil, Denver is paying him more than a million over that. Sadly, there is no way that he can live up to that contract so I don't see him in orange in 2010

Dawkins will rank with some of the best that the Eagles have let go after they put so many years into the organization. He is a franchise player just as much as McNabb is. Dawkins will always be up there with Reggie White, Randall Cunningham and other greats that should have stayed Eagles until they were ready to retire. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for all the excitement, incredible plays, indomitable spirit,take-aways, bat-aways, blow-up tackles, fumbles caused, fumbles recovered, sacks, scares, urges for "louder" from us fans, and most especially, what we all waited for.....your entrance onto the field. Thinking about it brings back the goosebumps and always the thought that with you in the defense, we could beat anybody. I'm happy you could get a huge paycheck from Denver, but you will realize a few years from now that it was best that you chose that route. Great good luck and godspeed to a real player.
