Donovan McNabb called it "a wonderful thing" and "a memorable thing."

Last week's back-from-the-dead victory over the Cardinals?

No, the Tuesday birth of twins, a boy and a girl, to Donovan and his wife, Roxy. The couple also has a 4-year-old daughter, Alexis. McNabb declined to disclose the names of his newest family members.

McNabb was asked about how having a wife pregnant with twins might have affected him this season; in 2007, free safety Brian Dawkins missed quite a bit of offseason work because of complications that ensued from the premature birth of twins to his wife, Connie. Dawkins felt his subpar season had a lot to do with that situation. The McNabb twins apparently also arrived at least a little early, but are in fine health, their father said.

" 'Dawk' and I, our situations were a lot similar," McNabb said at his regular weekly news conference. "It's hard not to think about your wife going through something like that ... I can't sit here and say '(No, it wasn't) on my mind the previous weeks.'  I tried not to let it affect my play, knowing that I didn't play as well as I wanted to in the previous weeks ... It's sort of a weight off your shoulders, knowing that everyone is healthy and everyone is fine."

As the Eagles prepare for Sunday's game at the Giants, which could determine whether they have a chance at the playoffs, and whether McNabb stays here in 2009, is he thinking even a little about the allure of a fresh start somewhere else?

"No. No. I don't even think of that," he said.

But McNabb did acknowledge that his talk on the NFL Network's postgame show last week, about needing to have a further conversation with Eagles coach Andy Reid after being benched and then brought back to start, was related to his concerns about his future.

"I'll be talking to Andy, Joe (Banner) and Jeffrey (Lurie)," McNabb said. "We'll discuss that when the time comes. I think at this particular point, it's just really for us to focus on who we're playing, and that'll be the Giants, and continue on from there. The conversation will happen."

He added that the conversation will happen at the end of the season.

Asked if he feels secure in his role, McNabb said: "I am the quarterback and I will be the quarterback ... I don't look at anything else happening."

Other highlights Wednesday: Asante Samuel (neck) was scheduled to return to practice. Correll Buckhalter (knee) was to sit out, though Reid said Buckhalter has been running.

Brian Westbrook said he feels as good as he has felt since the start of the season.

The Eagles announced that they have brought up offensive lineman Chris Patrick from the practice squad to replace Max Jean-Gilles, who suffered a season-ending broken ankle against Arizona. Patrick has been replaced on the practice squad by offensive lineman Tala Esara, a former member of the Dolphins' practice squad.

Imagine that...a legitimate reason for Donvovan to have been off his game a few times recently. Based on all the ranting by the omniscient "sports media" and fair weather fans in this town the last 3 weeks, you'd never have known it. I'm not excusing his play, but if anyone has experienced the stress of potential child birth complications, they can understand what a distraction it can be. Obviously, DMac comports himself with more dignity and character than most people writing and reading these pages can muster. Kudos to Mac 5 and God Bless his wife and family.

Just like everyone else in the world we all have concerns, problems, and worries that we have to cope with. Our employers say leave your problems at the door, and get to work. Football players are no different. For 4 hours a week he should be able to do his job and lead the team even if his wife was pregnant with twins. At least he doesnt have the financial worries that the average joe has. I'm glad the twins and wife are all well, but its not an excuse to suck at your job

Just like Rocky went out and beat Apollo Creed in Rocky II after Adrianne told him to 'win' after the birth of their son, Donovan will have a great game this Sunday and the Eagles will spank the Giants. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. McNabb!

Congratulations Donovan. No matter what these knuckleheads say (in the stands, the media, here on this board ...), know that you've got a strong and healthy family at home. All that really matters. And remember that most of us Philly fans support and respect you - it's the discontent minority that's yelling the loudest. Congrats #5.

Lets's see if I understand this. He wasn't distracted against the Cards when he played great but he was when he sucked agianst the Ravens and the Bengals. He hasn't won a big game in 4 years. Let's see if he can on Sunday.

Again, to all of the empty metal heads who think life evolves around football. You prove again how clueless and disrespectful you are to a man's personal problems and issue he often time has to deal with. If I remember correctly Donovan never used this as an excuse for those games THEY lost. Perhaps it was the play calling more than the player! If you can, just imagine if you never got a chance to get into a rhythm because the plays called were hit or miss big plays. Look at your line play on both sides of the ball, they were not in a rhythm because of the imbalance of plays and schemes scripted. It might be more impressive if you media driven fans would learn how to think for yourselves instead of constantly being brainwashed by the media. This hate you have for this man stems greater than the man. Can you finally be truthrful with us all and tell us why you really dilike this man? Are you jealous, envious or plain prejudice? Be truthful for once in your life.

In response to "thetruth", here is some truth. McNabb is no longer an elite level quaterback. Injuies and age have eroded his game. Over the last 4 years he has a .500 record and his completion percentage is below average for an NFL QB. Why does pointing out his flaws have to be misinterpreted as hateful, jealous or prejudice? The pass protection of the offensive line has been very good this year and yet he has still struggled in many of these games. That's the truth. That doesn't mean he isn't appreciated for what he has done in the past but the only thing that matters in sports is right now.
