Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, whose team owns the 22nd and 28th overall picks in the first round is trying to trade up to get Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.
Jones called both the Oakland Raiders, who have the fourth pick, and the Kansas City Chiefs, who have the fifth pick, about moving up to their spots. Jones knows he needs to leap over the New York Jets, who are picking sixth because the Jets are considering taking McFadden if he makes it to them.
According to sources, Jones did not offer both of the Cowboys' first-round picks, just one of them. Both the Raiders, who could well take McFadden themselves, and the Chiefs, said thanks but no thanks.
Both are expecting to hear from Jones again today.
The draft begins at 3 p.m.
As much as I dislike both Jones & the 'Boys, you have to give him his due in how he has built that team. He took quite a few hits after his seperation from Jimmy Johnson as being Football's George Steinbrenner. He's put together a strong organization & with successful drafting production. If the Cowboys don't get McFadden, it won't be because Jones didn't make every effort to do so. yobill626
