The Eagles added tight end Martin Rucker from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and released running back P.J. Hill.
Releasing Hill, a running back, would suggest that the Eagles are confident that Brian Westbrook will return this week to face San Francisco. Hill was not active during his time with the Eagles, as the third running back behind LeSean McCoy and Eldra Buckley.
Rucker has been on the practice squad since Sept. 24, signing with the Eagles two days after he was waived by the Browns. Rucker was a fourth-round pick in 2008 and caught two passes for 17 yards in five games as a rookie.
It is unclear if Rucker's promotion is because of concern over Brent Celek's back injury. Coach Andy Reid indicated Monday that Celek was "tender" and that it would be a "day-to-day" situation.
COLE AWAITS FINE
An NFL spokesman said fines are likely but suspensions are not, for the scrum that broke out after Eli Manning's fumble near the end of regulation Sunday. If suspensions are issued, the teams would find out about them today; fines are usually not divulged until later in the week.
Chris Clemons seemed to shove the Giants' David Diehl unneccessarily, but not really illegally, as Joselio Hanson was being tackled nearby after he recovered the fumble. Diehl then really went after Clemons, and other players joined in, including the Eagles' Will Witherspoon and the Giants' Rich Seubert. Shaun O'Hara went after Clemons, leading to Trent Cole's involvement. Cole threw two punches at Shaun O'Hara, leading to Cole's ejection for the final eight seconds of the game.
The offsetting personal fouls seemed to be a pretty good hashing out of what happened.
Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked Monday about the overall "chippiness" of the game.
"You just have to be smart with it," Reid said. "You have to play within the rules and regulations. There’s a little bit of that that happens between our two teams here.”
ON TO THE NINERS
San Francisco will come to the Linc next Sunday on a high after a 24-9 win over Arizona last night. The Niners forced seven turnovers, including five in the first half. (Click here for more)
"I can't really express to you how proud I am of our team," coach Mike Singletary told reporters afterward. "Our guys responded ... at a time many teams would have quit. Having a division opponent coming in that's very hot and you play very well, I'm excited about our guys. We're going to enjoy this victory tonight and tomorrow focus on Philly. We know that's going to be a fight."

GRANDPA GOT THE SWINE FLU!! YEAH!!!! coachbarnes10- If you watch the tape it appears that Diehl tried to give Clemons at least 2 nasty cheap shot punches in the back of the head but couldn't because Witherspoon was holding Diehl's arm back. Cole then jumped in. erformc1

Whew! I thought for sure Trent would get suspended. That is the one player we can't affored to lose. Hate to see what the D would be like without him. Seems to me he is the only one putting constant pressure on qb's. His motor is always at full speed. fla.eagle
I have to say, as a HUGE Eagles fan, I didnt not like seeing those punches come from a guy that is so importnant to our defense or from any Eagle for that matter. I was expecting a suspention, and it would probably be justified, but Im glad to hear that there isnt one coming. Those guys need to be smarter about stuff like that. Who are you going to hurt when everyone is wearing pads and helmets? It's stupid. Grab your team mate out of the middle of that and head toward your sideline, the game is over... traugdog420
The Niners concern me after the Birds tendency to play down to teams. The saving grace is that it's December and they're traveling East. I hope the coaches really watch the tape because Singletary will have them playing some D. HandNik

I have a feeling the league will look to suspend Trent IMO, they know this will most likely hurt a dangerous Eagles team. I don't trust the NFL. realtruth
Niners are solid defensively, but if we put pressure on Alex Smith, he'll throw picks and our defense has capitalized on bad quarterbacks all year. If we play our game we should be fine. There isn't a person on earth that can guard DeSean Jackson. mikeburke4
Handnik has the thing in focus. Eagles tend to play down to teams. In a way we're lucky the Niners had a good game. Maybe the Eagles will realize they'll have to play extremely well to get a close win, just as hard as they did against the Giants. tacklinjoe
Watch out. DeSean gave the Giants an unsportsmanlike scowl and may be suspended. tommy_the_k

Man, oh man I am getting sick of these lame, old, un-funny and tired 'nicknames' some of you haters are giving Eagles that deserve nothing but credit. "McPuke," "Softybrook" (I can't tell you how bad that sucks) COME ON PEOPLE!!!! He's freakin' hurt! Two concussions in three weeks and he is soft, huh? Idiots. He has some of the better highlights ever as an Eagles running back. Let it go, people, let it go. dr.elektrika- Niners traveling East on a short week after an emotional Monday night victory over a division rival? VERY beatable.
