Eagles defensive end Chris Clemons scared teammates and coaches when trainers had trouble bringing down his his body temperature, after Clemons left the morning workout with dehydration symptoms. Clemons eventually left Lehigh's A. Haigh Cundey Varsity House, where the Eagles dress and train, in the back of a white-and-blue City of Bethlehem Emergency Medical Sevices ambulance, which arrived with lights and siren running a little after 11:10 a.m

.Eagles officials forbade photographers and TV cameramen from shooting footage of Clemons being loaded into the ambulance, which was not running its siren when it departed at 11:27 a.m., preceded by a black unmarked police car. Clemons seemed to be conscious and sitting up on a stretcher, hooked to an IV, as he entered the ambulance, though reporters were kept about 40 feet away, across a road from the entrance to the fieldhouse.

Eagles coach Andy Reid and team security director Butch Buchanico followed the ambulance in a white SUV.

It wasn't oppressively hot during the morning session of Eagles training camp -- officially, temperatures were in the low 80s, under bright sun -- but at least a few players seemed to experience cramps or dehydration, Clemons most dramatically.

Clemons left the field on a motorized cart, with a tan ice-filled cooling cap on his head. When the cart got to to doorway of the fieldhouse, Clemons needed a trainer under each shoulder to get into the building. Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb theorized that Clemons, 26, a free agent signee from the Raiders, was unaccustomed to the brisk pace of Eagles workouts.

"We're kind of adjusted to it," McNabb said at his scheduled news conference, minutes after Clemons was whisked away. "This is his first go-round."

McNabb said he knew little about the situation, beyond the fact that when McNabb came in from the field, Clemons was "just sitting there, they were throwing some cold rags on him."

One week into camp and it seems like the wheels are falling off. Anybody left on the team that either isn't sick, hurt, or greedy?

That sort of eliminates everybody in the NFL.

MVK: Check in with with Eagles Insider Dave Spaudauro. Wheels are not falling off. Some of his comments include: "Guys look good off the line". "This kids is a comer". "He bring a high motor" Spauduaro is already thinking about resting starters near the end of the season before the playoffs. Its great reading.

Hey shoeshineboy, that's not nice. I am a great reporter! Not a good reporter, A GREAT REPORTER! And the Eagles ARE GOING TO NEED REST BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS! Are you a fool? What are they going to do when all those guys end up in Tampa tired? The Super Bowl might become a game! We don't want that! Life is great here in Lehigh... don't believe the hype... these guys would play for free if the NFLPA would let them. They LOVE the Eagles' management. Who wouldn't want to play on a team with this load of studs at WR? And our D-line? FORGET ABOUT IT! TAMPA HERE WE COME!

Dave Spadaro WORKS for the Eagles; have you ever heard a bigger cheerleader? I hope this guy is OK. These intense workouts in the heat cannot be good for anyone.

Clemons should be fine. Sounds like the usual Camp Reid dehydration. Reid was probably going to stop for some funnelcake @ Dorney Park on the way back. Too bad he doesn't follow good lifestyle modification himself.

Let me see if I understand what is going on with the Eagles. The all-pro cornerback that they didn't need, who signed for obscene money during the off-season, has a pulled hamstring. The team's best offensive lineman has "personal issues" and hasn't shown up at camp yet. The team's best running back is disgruntled over his contract and could walk out of camp at any time. Another of the team's best cornerbacks is unhappy over his traetment by management. The team's key pass rushing specialist signed during the off season was taken to the hospital for dehydration. Another key defensive pass rusher has a dislocated wrist. Is there anything that I missed?

Oakland is hot. Don't let nobody fool yo. Clemmons must be out of shape, partying in A.C. with JR, Tocchet, and Pat "the midnight mayor of old city" Burrell. look, if the Eagles run the ball all year they will win 10 games. if they think McNabb is a winner or that their wide receivers could ever compare to TO's skills...they will win 5 games. PERIOD.

Typical negative Philly fans, it is only the pre-season and you are giving up already, you are not real fans, real fans stay positive.

Spadaro is a know-nothing know-it-all. As stated, he's on the payroll he's gonna spin this stuff just to keep his bosses happy. Anybody looking to Spadaro for an honest account of this team is a Grade-A moron.

Every year we grind them up at training camp. By the beginning of the season, its patchwork time. Andy is going to learn one day that race cars don't need to do their max speed all week to be ready for a race on Sunday.

ooops, forgot the broken wrist too. what fun! cooltropic....serious? the guy was just dehydrated, how a professional athlete gets dehydrated at this point is beyond me as i'm fairly certain we know what causes that. if it were anything else it should have come up in the physical the team gave him (or should have given him...this isn't garcia and the phils i don't think). ec420de, real fans stay positive? what world do you live in? it must be nice, and i'd sure like to visit. only bandwagon fans stay positive, 'cause they jump from winner to winner. 'real' fans have to weather through lots of losses, which tends to create some negativity...and what city has gone through more losses than Philly? nobody, thanks to the Phils' 10k+.

Ha, a bunch of you guys sound like morons. First off, you compare Spadaro (and misspell his name for that matter) to a reporters. He's ain't one, and doesn't claim to be one. He's the Eagles website guy. That's what he is. I bet NBC's webmaster isn't half the reporter that Tom Brokaw is, but who cares- he has a different job! Others- there's nothing uniquely disastrous about the Eagles camp so far. Look around the league before assuming we get all the bad luck.

Gotta be careful with the heat issues. It can be deadly and it has already happened in the NFL. Funny though that in the old days players were told that water was for sissy's during a hot, tough practice and nowadays hydration is key to staying healthy. How many of the old timers had heat related issues that required medical attention?

Last year at this time, Spauduaro could not stop raving about Jeremy Clark. His current favorite: Michael Gaspserson. I tell you this kid is a "late bloomer" who will "find his way onto an NFL roster".

Let's all join this message board as iterations of Dave Spadaro's name, like Davey Spadaro, or David Spadaro, etc. Who ever heard of a team having just one cheerleader on the sideline? We need rows and rows of them.

At the very least, these injuries warrant a reexamination of the physical intensity of Reid's training camp methods. Does his approach represent the latest recommendations of the Physical Therapist/Training research that's available? I've always gotten the impressions from interviews of the Eagle's trainers that they are very knowledgible and experts at what they do but there are variability with the approach different teams are taking. Are they creating a situation where there are more injuries or, in the long term, do they prevent future injuries by properly preparing for the season. I think that would be a topic that I'd like to see an article on. Really, what the fans think won't be the most educated opinion. Let's here what the experts have to say and are there any points of disagreement in the health care community regarding the physical fitness programs that major sports have adopted.

It's nice to see that Spadaro is confident in his abilities. However, this is Philadelphia. The Iggles were stacked last year too, and look what happened. This brings up the old addage..Dont tell me about the pain, just show me the baby. Furthermore, i'd rather step on a rusty nail that listen to Eskin. Finally, i am WAY more interested in that team out in South Bend, and the actual rebuilding they are doing.

Ask the doctor who treats Clemons generic questions about dehydration and the risks and wisdom of the type of physical activty that a professional football team conducts during training camps. What needs to happen to insure the safety of the players regarding both health issues such as dehydration as well as bone breaks, sprains, muscle tears and injuries of that nature.

Spadaro is a "reporter" who works for the Eagle's. No doubt that he can't be completely objective and he's part public relations in that he tries to explain the team's position. However, some of his picks are more long shots that might develop into an interesting training camp story line. Philly loves underdogs and long shots. After all, we've been rooting for them most of our lives. Dave is getting the ball rolling.

How about the people who have to be out in this heat and aren't making a huge salary? How about the firefighters both paid & volunteer who have to be out in the heat and wearing 30 pounds of gear? I don't see big coverage when one of them goes to the hospital. Also, lets not forget those in Afghanistan Iraq who are wearing 30 to 40 lbs of gear, and risking their lives in temps much higher than this!

Well guys, my INSIDE SCOOP on Andrews is good stuff. Coach Reid recently talked to Shawn during his break of playing Spiderman vs. Godzilla with his action figures. Shawn is now up to 425 lbs, is talking in mono-syllabic words, and is speaking to the media only through his interpreter, his vintage Strawberry Shortcake doll, but I GOT AN EXCLUSIVE BABY! I can't get into details, but we're OK because Max-Jean Gilles will be in HAWAII THIS YEAR! YEAH BABY!

Another Spauduaro favorite: How Stephen Spach battled to make the team over Andy Thorn. Spauduaro loved that one. He also said that "Bruce Perry was the guy for the KR job". And Spauduaro was bullish on Matt McCoy for his aggressiveness.
