Turns out there was a good reason why the Eagles didn't confirm a Pro Football Talk Web site report that said  defensive end Chris Clemons has been released from Lehigh Valley Hospital. Clemons is still in the hospital.

Clemons suffered heat-related problems. Eagles athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said he elected to call an ambulance when Clemons couldn't answer questions about his situation after he came off the field on a cart. Burkholder said Clemons was not one of the linemen asked to swallow a heat-monitoring "pill," which gives an internal body temperature to a trainer using a handheld monitor, but in the future, he will be.

"We try to be very proactive with (heat precautions)," Burkholder said. "Sometimes we come up short. Today we came up short. But we'll bounce back with him. I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen again with him."

The PFT item was posted at 1:05 p.m. When Burkholder spoke with reporters just before 4, Clemons was still hospitalized, Burkholder said.

Meanwhile, Burkholder did not rule out the possibility that DE Victor Abiamiri's season is over after surgery yesterday for torn wrist ligaments. Burkholder said Abiamiri, who was a strong candidate for a starting job, will be reassessed at the end of training camp.
