Chip: No final word on Vick today

Chip Kelly said he does not expect to know today whether Michael Vick will be able to start against the Giants Sunday, although Vick continues to take first-team reps, and that is what Vick and his teammates anticipate.

If you believe Chip Kelly, the Eagles might suddenly find out tomorrow that Matt Barkley is their likely starter for Sunday's visit from the Giants.

This seems implausible in light of the fact that the rookie from USC hasn't been taking starter's reps this week, which is the sort of thing you'd want for a rookie heading into his first NFL start. In fact, Michael Vick is preparing to start for the first time since straining his left hamstring in the previous meeting with the Giants, Oct. 7, but refuses to project Vick into this week's game.

"He's on track to practice on Thursday," Kelly said, when asked if Vick is on track to play. Kelly said he did not anticipate knowing today whether Vick will be good to go against the Giants, who have said they are assuming they will face Vick.

"Mike had a good day yesterday running around," Kelly said. "But again, it's how do you respond to that today? We lifted this morning, so I want to check with our strength and conditioning coaches, what was he like in the lifting session, did he have any pain, where are we from that standpoint?"

Kelly said Nick Foles, who suffered a concussion in last Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, was working out with trainers Thursday and had attended a morning meeting. But Kelly said to his knowledge, Foles has not undergone the neurological testing that would precede a return to the practice field.

Kelly said the Giants game will come down to winning one-on-one battles up front.

Kelly said he expects corner Bradley Fletcher (knee) will practice today and play on Sunday.
