Chip: I have final say on 53, but Howie and I think alike

As roster cutdowns loom, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Tuesday that he has final say on the 53, but that he and general manager Howie Roseman have yet to disagree.

Chip Kelly didn't hesitate Tuesday when asked who has final say on the Eagles' 53-man roster.

"I do," Kelly told a questioner.

This has been the assumption, but previous queries have been met with mushy answers about a collaborative process. And Kelly eventually veered back that way this time, asserting that so far, he and general manager Howie Roseman haven't disagreeed on anything.

The topic is especially relevant with the Eagles sitting at 76 players this morning, needing to be to 75 by 4 p.m. and 53 by Saturday.

"There's a lot up in the air right now" regarding the composition of that roster, Kelly said Tuesday, looking toward Thursday's preseason finale at the Jets. Kelly reiterated that there is no starter opposite Patrick Chung at safety; Nate Allen and Earl Wolff will vie for the job in Thursday's game.

Kelly said running back Bryce Brown, who suffered an ankle scare in Monday's practice, was scheduled to participate in Tuesday's walkthrough.

RE the roster, reporters have been interested on Kelly's level of involvement with the defense, given his offensive focus.

"I meet with (defensive coordinator Billy Davis). I watch all the practice tape. I'm more involved in the offensive side of the ball," Kelly said.
