BRIAN DAWKINS

On whether it can work with Samuels, Brown and Sheppard at corner: Anything can work. I've said that before. Anything can work. But we'll have to wait and see. When the time comes, hopefully everything will be ironed out.

On whether he's impressed with how Sheppard has handled the situation: I wouldn't expect anything else from Lito. He's been that way. I know what type of person he is, so I wouldn't expect anything different.

On whether he wants to know who his starting cornerbacks are going to be: Hopefully, everything will be ironed out and will be figured out. So that when we line up to play, we all know who it is we're going to go to war with every week. Hopefully, by the time the season rolls around, everything will be ironed out and we'll all have an idea of what that's going to be.

Andy Reid comparing this CB situation to when he had Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent and Al Harris: It's different. I'm not going to get into all the details, but it's different.

Is this just a matter of the corners putting their ego aside and making it work?: I'm not talking about putting egos aside. There's a lot more to it than just putting egos aside. Like I said, anything can work. You just don't know the dynamics of it. None of us knows the dynamics of conversations other than what we know. We'll just have to wait and see.

On whether he was surprised that most of the offseason signings were on the defensive side of the ball: No, I wasn't surprised. The fact we were 32nd in the league in turnovers last year, even though we had some injuries on that side of the ball, it didn't surprise me that they went out and got a (defensive) playmaker.

His feelings on the defense right now: I am very optimistic about it. I think we have a lot of young guys who stepped up and made some big-time contributions last year. I think they are understanding more of their roles and what is going to be asked of them this year. With the additions we've made, I think the potential for us to be a good defense is there. You never know, but I think the potential is there for us to be a good defense.

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his 27 years at the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually wa s boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, a University of Oklahoma grad and very dangerous to be around following a Sooner loss, have been married 29 years and have raised 2 terrific daughters – Allison, 26, a lawyer and graduate of Boston University School of Law; and Amy, 23, who graduated from Clemson and works in marketing and sales for a professional baseball team.
