Eagles middle linebacker Stewart Bradley's injury suffered at Flight Night is more serious than anticipated.

Bradley has a torn anterior cruciate ligament that will end his season, his agent, Eric Metz, confirmed to the Daily News' Les Bowen.

Metz said the injury is a "complete tear." Metz said they are examining their options as to who will perform the surgery.

"Stew seems to be handling it well," Metz said. "He's a mature, tough kid."

The injury was first reported by WIP.

Bradley's knee was twisted in a pile during the scrimmage, Metz said. Bradley limped off the field during the scrimmage, was examined by Burkholder, and then jogged off the field. He was scheduled to have an MRI this morning.

When a reporter called Bradley's cell phone, Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder answered. Burkholder said all information must come from Eagles coach Andy Reid, who is scheduled to speak to reporters after today's 2:45 workout at Lehigh.

Bradley's absence likely means the Eagles will turn to Omar Gaither or Joe Mays as the starting middle linebacker. Gaither had been the starter on the weak side at the beginning of last season before being replaced by Akeem Jordan. Mays, a 2008 draft pick, appeared in two games last season.

In the Eagles practice this afternoon, Mays is working with the first team in the base defense, but Gaither is likely to be inserted when the Birds go to their nickel package. The Eagles are practicing without pads today.

In other news, defensive end Jason Babin has agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with the Eagles, according to WMMT-TV in Michigan. (Thanks to the eagle eyes who caught our earlier error in calling him Justin Babin).

Babin, a 2004 first-round draft choice of the Houston Texans who has played with three other NFL franchises, was to fly to Philadelphia and join the Eagles at Lehigh, the report said.

This D already has a lot of question marks..No Dawk, No JJ running the show, Ticked off Sheldon..now No Bradley. Could be a very tough year on D. Team better hope the O-Line is healthy or this could be a long year for the whole team..Way too many question marks for everyone to keep praising and calling for a Championship.

Had a feeling when I read on GCOBB.COM last night on how it happened. Feel bad for Stew. I was looking forward to this being a potential breakout year for the guy. Unfortunately, there's no escaping the fact that it's football and injuries happen. Just means somebody's gotta step up and the team needs to move on. Joe Mays, your opportunity has just presented itself. Time to see if the "headbuster" can pick up where he left off last pre-season in which he was a tackling machine. If he doesn't work out, they still have Omar Gaither who can competently play the position, although I am seriously pulling for Joe Mays to be the guy to "step up". Could he be our London Fletcher on a SB team like the Rams of 1999? Stay Tuned...

Aaarrrrrggggghhh!!!! The Eagles can't catch a break. Mays who? And Gaither is trash. I was really looking for Bradley to go to the pro bowl this year. I was thinking is it more ACL injuries now than 50 years ago? The reason I ask because I think some of the food & supplements we put into our bodies are hurting us more than helping us

It is a proven fact that practicing outdoors at night increases your chance of injury by 53%

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

You can now follow Les Bowen on Twitter.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his 27 years at the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually wa s boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, a University of Oklahoma grad and very dangerous to be around following a Sooner loss, have been married 29 years and have raised 2 terrific daughters – Allison, 26, a lawyer and graduate of Boston University School of Law; and Amy, 23, who graduated from Clemson and works in marketing and sales for a professional baseball team.
