Westbrook: McNabb 'very underappreciated'

POSTED: Friday, February 26, 2010, 3:34 PM

A few Eagles related notes from around the league and Day 2 at the Scouting Combine (and you would know much of this already if you followed Les on Twitter) ...

* Brian Westbrook continued his run of interviews following the announcement of his impending release from the Eagles. Westbrook was asked by ESPN 1000 in Donovan McNabb's hometown of Chicago if he would be shocked if McNabb followed him out of Philadelphia.

"It wouldn't shock me at all if he got traded or released," Westbrook said. "I know that he is very unappreciated in Philadelphia. ... He's definitely unappreciated for the things that he does and the things that he brings to Philadelphia.

"I think Donovan brings so much to a football team: leadership; a high quality of play. You can't replace that easily. I definitely can't see him leaving there, but at the same time, it's going to become a money thing at some point."

Westbrook also said that he realizes he is not going to carry the ball 30 times a game and will have to share the load wherever he lands. He also again reiterated that he is not planning to retire.

"I would love to play in Chicago," he said, "I would love to play anywhere."

* If you were looking for Eagles to add linebacker Gary Brackett in free agency, I think you're going to be disappointed. Looks like he's re-signng in Indy.

* Howie Roseman and Joe Banner lunching today with agents Peter Schaffer and J.R Rickert. Let's get some good free agent rumors started.

* NFLPA boss DeMaurice Smith gave the agents a prepare-for-war talk today in Indy. Union reiterating its view that owners are preparing for a lockout.

* According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, San Diego will not tender running back Darren Sproles and will allow him to test the free-agent market.

* The Vikings say they want to re-sign running back Chester Taylor, whose name is being talked about by Eagles fans, and they are scheduled to meet with Taylor's agent Ken Sarnoff, at the scouting combine this week, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "We plan on talking to Chester’s guy and seeing where he’s at and then we’ll just go on from there," Vikings VP of player personnel Rick Spielman said. "I don’t know where the market is going because it’s a whole new deal this year and I don’t know what other teams are going to do. If there’s going to be lavish spending, if there’s not. Like I said, it’s an unknown. But I know Chester is one of those guys that we would definitely want to try to sign back if we can." The report also indicates that the Vikings could have interest in Brian Westbrook if they do not re-sign Taylor.

I fail to understand why ANYBODY would disagree with B-West. But I also think that viewpoints vary, and Brian has a unique one to present. He doesn't owe Mc5 a THING, so I would be confident that he means exactly what he says. If the O-Line can get it's act together, and the "D" can become at least above NFL average , I have no doubt that the offense, under Mc5's quarterbacking, will get to the Conference Championship game. And if Andy will run the ball just 10 more times a game, we will win the damn Superbowl....against the damn Patriots I hope.

Boy are you guys going to LOVE life when #5 is GONE! No more McNabb. "Losing is g-r-e-a-t! as long as number 5 isn't under throwing, we'll be happy with anything else." Spoiled, whiny babies...ugh!

. cudnt trade BWest for nothin - GUESS NO ONE APPRECIATES Him enuf. if they trade DMac for a 1st rounder - that will be underappreciation; BUT: if we get several draft picks, that will be a sign that he is accurately appreciated. jjust like the housing market, player appreciation can only be gauged by what OTHERS WILL PAY

I'm with you, Joe. Sproles has been great every time I've seen him. He's a little guy but seems to hold up well.

It's amazing to hear people still picking up for McNabb. Dont you people know that this Eagle team will always be in mediocreville as long as McNabb is the qb? Brian Westbrooke is just sticking up for his bro, I can understand that. Brian Westbrooke, do yourself and your family a favor...retire, and enjoy!

I appreciate what Don has done...past tense...his best days are behind him. I think we should trade him while he still has some value and continue to build the defense.

Donovan underappreciated ? Ever go to an Eagles game . There are 40 thousand people wearing his jersey . He was great , but his best days are behind him . He's also not a philly type , with his goofy expressions , his overbearing parents , his really stupid comments whenever he is near a mike . He gave us great memories , but if he leaves town , it will be great. I only wish he would take Andy with him . Change is GOOD !

YES. NO MATTER WHAT; Let's RIP McNabb; regardless of what people who play and have played in the NFL or been in the locker room. Don't mind what Ike Reese says; he has Johnson envy or something....... LOSERS!!!!!

For a guy who got paid millions to play here in Philly, you sure are running your mouth alot. Get over it Brian, running backs do not have a long shelf life and you haven't played well since 07. As for McNabb, his own play has gotten him to this point - inability to manage a 2 minute drill, throwing balls in the ground, or behind a guy or way past where he can catch the ball....it all adds up. Is McNabb a good QB? Yes. Is he a great QB? NO. His own record in the playoffs certainly supports that.

Besides thinking he was finished, the Eagles did not want to see a third, even life threatening, head injury on their watch.
