Bowles: Best Players Are Playing
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
After Monday night's seventh successive Eagles loss, Todd Bowles vowed that players who weren't doing the job would be replaced.
Tuesday, the Birds parted ways with defensive end Jason Babin, but there have been no further defensive lineup changes. D-coordinator Bowles said Thursday that was because, well, he doesn't have anybody better to put in there.
"You show in practice every week from training camp to now, we have possible lineup changes, people compete every day ... we're playing our best guys," Bowles said. "If there was somebody that definitely could play better, they'd be playing."
Asked what his role was in the Babin release, Bowles said: "Not much. That's something handled by management and the head coach. Jason was a great player for us."
Bowles was asked specifically about his safeties, Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen, who seem to guess wrong on coverage quite often.
"They're tough and they play smart," Bowles said, then paused. "They play smart most of the time. They've made their mistakes, as has everybody else. It's not just the safeties."

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said several players will rotate into DeSean Jackson's role this week. (Psst! Damaris Johnson).
Monrhinweg talked about how rewarding the spoiler role could be. (Yes, it has come to this.)
Mornhinweg lauded Dallas Reynolds for getting through the Carolina game on a sprained ankle, but said he thinks Reynolds will miss Sunday's game, which leaves Evan Mathis at center for the first time in a regular season NFL game, and Danny Watkins at left guard.
Mornhinweg said Watkins is "real close" to being completely recovered from his ankle problem.
Watkins is as close to being cut as he is to being 'completely recovered' from his chronic ankle injury. B-U-S-T PhillySubsMac- he's like the perfect woman - a BIG BUST!

The more Bowles opens his mouth, the less I think of him.
He's either saying what Andy wants him to say, or he's a mental pygmy for saying things like this. Oy vey. eaglefaninAZ- It's called CYA. He's not going to go against the team. Name me one coach that has anyswhere.

The Eagles should refrain from cutting any more players. At this point, it's an unknown who will be running the team. philly57
Coleman and Allen play are tough and play smart. I'll have two of whatever Todd Bowles is drinking. blank reg- The Tonner can tell you it's not Genny Cream Ale. The Tonner drinks it all the time and he's never said anything that stupid. Ok, he's done stupid things (the Tonner's talking to you Angry Annie) but he doesn't usually run off at the mouth when he's all hopped up on the Genny.
Bowles was a mistake. anti-tax
The Eagles are no longer relevant folks: Andy, as it has been posted repeatedly - ain't going nowhere untill the end of the season, if even then.
Little Flower is entering the international Parcheesi Tournament, so follow them instead.

The DC states that Coleman & Allen play tough and are smart. And we wonder why the defense is getting torched. tuscany590
Gotta say, Demaris Johnson looks good when hes playing. Like the old djack, he seems to create a lot of space and gets room to run but hes never out there enough. Want to see more of him. At this point, even as bad as it is, I take enjoyment out of seeing who they can salvage for the future. Eagles win that game without the fumbles, not that I want them to win. Thought Brown looked good and Foles made some smart audibles and nice throws. The line was able to block better because of the run calls. Even saw B. Graham completely blow his guy straight back into the QB. Now the Panthers oline prob not the best, but it was nice to see something. To me, the lack of depth at safety and oline says so much about the drafting, it really set the team back. Yet they extend Howie, I dont get it, has to be this last draft which is still yet to be determined whether it was good or not. peteike
