The piling on by the national media and NFL analysts about Vince Young's "Dream Team" comment continued with former quarterback Boomer Esiason.

"If I'm Vince Young trying to resurrect my career, I keep my mouth shut," Esiason told USA Today. "This is a guy who cried on the bench down in Tennessee when he was being booed. If he thinks those Tennessee fans were tough, he better hope Michael Vick doesn't get hurt for an extended period of time. Because if he ends up getting the ball, and goes out there and plays like he did in Tennessee, the Philly fans will run him completely out of town."

Esiason added that Philadelphia has "one of the most passionate, toughest fan bases in football." The best thing Young "can do is button up just don't say anything and learn as best you can from Michael Vick how you can resurrect your career."

Since the comments were publicized, Young has said his remarks were taken out of context, although he was not surprised by all the attention.

Offensive tackle Ryan Harris underwent back surgery this week for a herniated disc. His injury was one of the things that forced the Eagles into making changes on the right side of the line, moving Todd Herremans to right tackle from left guard.

"Thanks for all the well wishes and positivity," Harris wrote on Twitter. "I am doing good and will be ready to play this year in no time."

Harris also said that he will be playing this year, calling reports that he was going on IR "greatly exaggerated."

The Eagles will not have to worry about the Sports Illustrated cover jinx, although Nnamdi Asomugha was on the cover a few weeks ago after he signed with the team.

The six regional covers for the Sept. 5 NFL Preview—on newsstands Wednesday—feature Curtis Lofton (Falcons), Jerod Mayo (Patriots), Calvin Pace (Jets), Lamarr Woodley (Steelers), Clay Matthews (Packers) and DeMarcus Ware (Cowboys).

SI's Peter King predicts the Eagles to finish 10-6 and win the NFC East by a game over Dallas. He has the Eagles winning a wild card game over Detroit but losing to New Orleans in the divisional round.

King's Super Bowl prediction is Atlanta 24, San Diego 20.

King correctly predicted last year that Pittsburgh and Green Bay would meet in the Super Bowl.

Does any writer have a track record of correctly predicting the playoff teams before the season begins, or even during the season? I'll never forget Jimmy Johnson on FOX saying the Eagles had "no chance" every week when Jeff Garcia filled in for McNabb.

Remember Merrill Hoge in 2004? He predicted the Eagles would lose each game for the first 2 months of the season on ESPN

As Bugs was fond of saying: "What a maroon!" Yeah right!! The Falcons won't even be IN the Super Bowl, let alone WIN the Super Bowl. Not that they can't make the playoffs as a wild card, but without any doubt, the Saints will win the NFC South. Peter King is a flat-out blowhard. Furthermore, his prognostications are NEVER correct.

For Peter King to make a prediction like that is about as bad as Vince Young declaring the Eagles as the "dream team". Does he realize how high the odds are that his predictions turn out to be 100% accurate? About as high as Young's prediction, I'd say.

I bet Kafka goes in when Vick goes down - only after they try Vince Young in vain and find out how bad he is - they will prefer Kafka's weaker arm and reliability until Vick comes back - mark my words!!!

The Lions finally make the playoffs, per King. Over the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins. Gotta love that!

one guy said this dream team quote..one guy!!! the media took this and ran wild with it...i guarantee the rest of the team and the coaches cringed when he said it...ok,now it's time for these media types to back off this piling on the eagles becuz it was only the one guy's misplaced comment..no one else seconded the quote or endorsed it so i hope this will die a slow death..fat chance though..i could kick v.y. in the you know whats for saying this...it's a distraction we eagle fans do not need and boomer,ha ha what a name for a 45 yr. old adult, you should know this if you did your homework instead of taking an easy cheap shot..

Boomer is right. VY should keep his mouth shut. He compared the Eagles to the Miami Heat.

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey. E-mail Les at bowenl@phillynews.com and follow him on Twitter.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his nearly 3 decades with the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose 2 sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, a University of Oklahoma grad who still hasn’t gotten over that Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State 5 years ago, have 2 terrific daughters -- Allison, 28, who is an attorney in South Jersey, and Amy, 25, who works in administration for a professional baseball team.
